The IES Engineering:It’s a structure set up by the IES and aimed at promoting the transfer of research achievements towards industry.
The IES and Education:The scientific researches of the institute also have implications in several postgraduate Master Programs of the UM managed by the IES academic staff, i.e.:- Master’s Degrees of Engineering in: Nanotechnology ; Electronics & Photonics ; Electric Power & Reliability ; Optoelectronics & Microwaves ; Sensors & Systems ; Safety in space engineering.- Pluridisciplinary Master’s Degrees of Science in: Energy ; ICT & Health ; ICT & Environment (co-management).The extensive involvement of the IES staff in these master programs brings dynamism to the lab and facilitates contacts with industrial partners via student training, thus helping us to identify the next scientific challenges and to improve student employability in innovative domains.
Scientific Strategy:Thanks to its experience and know-how in developing components and systems for electronics, micro-electronics, photonics, electric power, heat and acoustic applications (see inside for details), the IES is able to provide scientific and technological tools contributing to the solving of major current societal issues as energy, water, food, health, urban planning, defense, security, climate change, pollution etc.To reach these objectives, the three research departments of the IES develop new components and systems optimized in term of: - Integration (miniaturization, nanotechnologies, power device integration) - Efficiency (sources and detectors in the infrared and THz spectra, low noise components)- Communication (pass-band increase, THz, RFID, air communications)- Vectorisation (drones, pico-satellites, hydraulic probes)- Autonomous power supplies (energy efficiency, micro-power supplies)- Reliability (electronic components and materials under high electrical and thermal stress, in radiative environments, in space, at ground level).
Organization: IES Institut d’Electronique et des Systèmes is a joint research laboratory of the University of Montpellier (UM) and the CNRS (INSIS). Three research departments stand for the heart of the IES. They are assisted by technical and administrative services. The institute possesses workshops dedicated to mechanical and electronic engineering. The IES staff also manages four technological platforms. The IES has a manpower of 220 members.
The IES: the specialist of reliable electronic systems and components for
observation and measurement applications
