    1 Installation of InstantViewerInstantViewer is a platform-free software application that is automatically installed with CaseCenter.

    1.1 System RequirementsMinimum system requirements

    Monitor resolution 1280 × 720

    Operation system Windows 7 SP1 or newer

    CPU Intel DualCore

    RAM 2GB

    NOTE: The supported browser is Chrome for connecting to a CaseCenter server.

    2 About InstantViewer

    InstantViewer is a slide viewer application for opening slides through CaseCenter web surface in your browser.

    1. Once logged in to CaseCenter, go to Slides & Folder panel, and set Browser as default application for opening slides from the Open Slides In drop-down menu at the top right section of the slide operation bar.

    2. Click the thumbnail of the slide to open, then the slide is opened with InstantViewer in the same browser tab.

    2.1 Main DisplayAfter selecting the slide to open, it is automatically displayed in the same browser tab.

    The main window contains several functions for slide management and operation. The functions numbered on the above image are described in details in section 2.2.

    2.2 Functions

    1. Slide operation:

    If clicking this button the Slide Properties sub-menu opens. Slide properties window includes slide data such as Optical parameters, Scan information, Image parameters, and system information.

    2. Slide overview:

    Shows a low resolution overview from the whole slide to help navigation. The screened area is marked with a rectangle with gray border at the top left corner of the window. It allows fastnavigation through the slide by clicking onto a certain point in the overview or panning with the rectangle.

    3. Label area:

    Shows the label area of the slide. Label image can be flipped upside down. Label image can be flipped by 180° by clicking the icon, and slide information panel can be displayed by clicking the icon.

    4. Pan mode:

    If the button is active, the slide can be freely moved to any direction on the screen. To zoom in or out, roll the mouse wheel backwards or forward.

    5. Create annotations:

    Upon clicking this button the annotation toolbar is displayed:

    This mode allows placement of several different kind of annotations on the slide, such as:

    • Free size rectangle

    • Free circle

    • Line

    • Free hand linear

    • Free hand area

    • Arrow-type annotation: draws an arrow to a point of interest on the slide.

    • Screened: annotates the area visible on the monitor.

    • Fix size rectangle: draws a fixed size rectangle annotation on the slide.

    • Fix size circular: draws a fixed size circular annotation on the slide.

    • 20 × FOV: puts a standard 20 × field of view sized annotation on the slide.

    • 40 × FOV: puts a standard 40 × field of view sized annotation on the slide.

    • Annotation management panel

    The following functions are available on this panel:

    Move the Annotations panel by dragging it (clicking on a neutral area).

    Delete annotation: Click to delete the selected annotation.

    Use buttons to display the previous or the next annotation on the list. The actual annotation is zoomed onto to fit to the center of the screen.

    Click to view or hide all annotations.

    Edit annotation: click to change the annotation name.

    Click at the annotations list item row to view or hide the selected annotation.

    Upon clicking the URL link pointing to the selected annotation is displayed for sharing purposes. If another user (who has logged on to CaseCenter) pastes and opens the generatedlink in the browser, the annotated slide area will be then displayed.

    Define annotation color: click to select a color for the annotation. Adjust RGB channel levels, or select one of the predefined colors. Click to reset values to default. Click to accept changes.

    Click for note: Field for annotation description. To add a note, first click in the note box then enter the text. Entry of multiple data and copy/cut/paste function is supported.

    If an annotation is selected from the list, its related data (perimeter and area values) are displayed above the note field.

    • Pins the panel, therefore the control will stay in annotation mode (does not switch back to pan mode), therefore allows to put annotations continuously on the slide.

    6. Rotate / Flip:

    Drag the slider to rotate the slide between -180° and 180°. Click to set the default rotation.

    Click to flip slide image vertically, and to flip image horizontally.

    7. Snapshot:

    Opens the following sub-menu through which snapshot image can be uploaded to CaseCenter as attachment of a report, and saved as a file:

    8. Fit to screen:

    Fits slide image to screen.

    9. Magnification levels:

    Click a button to display the slide in the desired magnification.

    10. 1:1 magnification:

    Slide image is displayed at raw resolution (1 pixel of the image is displayed in 1 pixel of the monitor).

    11. Level of actual magnification:

    When zooming by scrolling with the mouse wheel, the actual value is automatically displayed here.

    12. Settings:

    Visualization-related settings of InstantViewer can be modified on the Settings window panels.

    ◦ – Turn Scale Bar on/off

    ◦ – Select color of Scale Bar

    ◦ Set Snapshot image quality with the slider or by entering a value in the entry field

    ◦ – Save settings

    13. Help:

    Click and the PDF format of this User Guide is opened in a window.

    14. Close InstantViewer:

    Closes InstantViewer and the CaseCenter interface is displayed again.

    15. Switch to CaseCenter:

    CaseCenter interface is displayed, but InstantViewer will not close. To return to InstantViewerinterface, click the same button at the top of the window.
