Installing Trimble Access Installation

Before you can immediately go forth with using your Trimble TSC2 or TSC3, you need to make sure that its internal programs are properly updated and installed to ensure perfect working order. For those who are using TSC devices, TAIM isn’t just a necessary component to help with your installs, it is required. Every computer that utilizes any form of a Trimble software or hardware should have this program installed. TAIM ensures:

Easy installation of license files necessary for programs installed onto your controller.

Installation of necessary application updates for smooth and efficient running of programs on your TSC.

Allows for updates for Trimble Office software installed onto your PC (i.e. Trimble Geomatics Office) for easier communication between your TSC and your PC

TAIM updates itself automatically; therefore, reinstalls are no necessary. Setup is easy and only requires a PC with that is up to date with its Windows Updates and active internet connection. There are two types of setups: The setup for a tablet, and a setup for a PC. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will focus on the TSCs for the time being. Ensure that you have the following:

A PC that is updated with all necessary Windows Updates.

An active internet connection.

Your TSC handheld.

Microsoft ActiveSync (XP users and below) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows 7 users only) installed.

A USB 2.0 Cable for connection from your PC to your Controller

Begin by opening your web browser. In this example, I’m using Internet Explorer. In the navigation bar above, type in the following web address: http://www.trimble.com/taim

Press Enter to navigate to the Trimble Access Installation Manager home screen. In this menu, you can download TAIM directly from the main screen. You can either scroll down until you see the option:

1.) Download and install the Trimble Access Installation Manger Or you can select the button located on the far left of the window highlighted by the arrow:

2.) Download TAIM Click on either button to begin the download.

When the download manager for your browser opens, choose to Save your file. Select the Desktop so that you can easily find your file.

Select Save again to download the file. When the download is completed, select Run to begin your installation. If you get a security warning prompt from Windows, simply ignore and select Run again.

For Trimble Tablet Handheld users (i.e. Yuma, Recon, etc, you will have to use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer the entire file from the PC. From there, you can manually install from the Tablet PC.

Installation of TAIM onto your PC is a 4-step process. Please refer to the numbered steps below and refer them to the numbered icons on the upper right of each of the four windows above:

1.) Selecting Run will open the Setup Wizard. Click Next on the bottom right. 2.) Clicking Next will bring up the License Agreement. Read through and select I Agree to initiate

the Next button. Click on Next. 3.) The Confirm Installation window is brought up. Click on Next to begin the installation process. 4.) When the installation is complete, the final window entitled Installation Complete appears.

Make sure that the Launch Trimble Access Installation Manager box is checked. Click on Close to finish the installation.

Make sure your TSC device is charged and plugged into your computer via USB Connection.

Trimble Access Installation Manger is automatically launched. In this Manager, there are three basic sections:

1.) Office Updates: In this section, updates to Trimble Office are featured in this submenu.

2.) Field Updates: In this section, all updates pertaining to your TSC are applied here.

3.) Language: In this section, language packages are stored for users that speak a different language.

Program Installs in Office Updates Trimble Connected Community File Explorer: Installs a customizable project and information management system that allows you to manage and email plans, designs, and reports. Works in conjunction with the Trimble Connected Community website: https://www.myconnectedsite.com/?redir=/site/tcc/tccsite (Optional to download) Trimble Solution Improvement Program: Installs a user participation program in which information about your TSC/Tablet usage is collected in order to resolve issues (via log files created through your connection to a PC) and sends the information to Trimble’s server. The files are reviewed to determine usage as well as means to troubleshoot problems. (Optional to download) Update Office: Updates and installs programs onto your PC Programs (Business Center, Geomatics Office). These are necessary when importing jobs from your TSC to your computer. (Recommended download)

Program Installs in Field Updates Everything under this heading provides an update to your TSC Controller. These updates are necessary for installed programs on your handheld to function properly. (Recommended download) Program Installs in Languages You can select any or all language packets in this option to accommodate for users of different languages. Once downloaded, the files are defaulted into the settings menu. Once your preferences are stored, select Start to begin the transfer.

When the download on TAIM is complete, select Finish to exit. On your TSC, Access will open on its own. In the License Agreement window, select I agree; tap OK. This will complete the updates. If you do not want this Agreement window to continuously appear, uncheck Show on startup. This concludes the Tutorial
