Installing BlackBerry on an Android device Overview The BlackBerry mobile app enables you to access your emails, calendar, contacts and the department’s intranet using a personal or work mobile device. This guide provides instructions for installing BlackBerry on an Android device. Important note: These instructions are for using the BYOD solution on Android devices. Separate instructions are available for staff using an Apple device running iOS - see the Installing BlackBerry on an Apple Device article. Android devices (for example: Samsung Galaxy phones, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google Pixel Slate, Lenovo Smart Tab, Amazon Fire HD tablets) that are version 7.1 (Nougat) and above can currently use BlackBerry. Google Pixel devices with Android 10 are not compatible with BlackBerry for security reasons. These instructions assume that you know how to use your Android device, including how to install applications that you have required access to the Google Play Store to download and install required software and undertake regular back-ups and software updates. These instructions have been prepared using a Google Pixel device running Android version 9 (Pie). Experience may be slightly different using a different device or a different Android version. Your device should be updated to the latest software before installing. If your mobile device is lost or stolen, please contact the IT Service Desk immediately. The IT Service Desk will arrange for data to be wiped off the device. What you can do with BlackBerry apps Once you have installed and set up the BlackBerry UEM Client app, you will be able to download and use the following apps.

Installing BlackBerry on an Android device

Overview

The BlackBerry mobile app enables you to access your emails, calendar, contacts and the department’s intranet using a personal or work mobile device.

This guide provides instructions for installing BlackBerry on an Android device.

Important note:

These instructions are for using the BYOD solution on Android devices.

Separate instructions are available for staff using an Apple device running iOS - see the Installing BlackBerry on an Apple Device article.

Android devices (for example: Samsung Galaxy phones, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google Pixel Slate, Lenovo Smart Tab, Amazon Fire HD tablets) that are version 7.1 (Nougat) and above can currently use BlackBerry.

Google Pixel devices with Android 10 are not compatible with BlackBerry for security reasons.

These instructions assume that you know how to use your Android device, including how to install applications that you have required access to the Google Play Store to download and install required software and undertake regular back-ups and software updates.

Experience may be slightly different using a different device or a different Android version.

What you can do with BlackBerry apps

Once you have installed and set up the BlackBerry UEM Client app, you will be able to download and use the following apps.

Access Access the Health intranet and other approved sites

Getting started with BlackBerry

Before you can start using BlackBerry, you need to complete some setup tasks. You need to:

apply for BlackBerry Access via MSSP receive the activation password from IT Service Desk (NoReply BES email) to activate

your device turn the Health Wi-Fi network off by selecting Settings > Wi-Fi, and turn Wi-Fi off.

During the setup

During the installation, if your Android device remains on any of the Please Wait screens, or seems to be unresponsive for more than 10 minutes, return to the home screen, close the BlackBerry UEM Client app (the same way you close any other app) and launch it again to restart the installation process.

Download the BlackBerry UEM Client app

Step 1

From the Google Play Store, search for and download/install BlackBerry UEM Client.

Install and configure the BlackBerry UEM Client app

Listed below are the steps you need to follow to configure the BlackBerry UEM Client app.

Note: These steps take around 15 minutes to complete.

Important: The BlackBerry app security uses your device's PIN. If you use a swipe pattern for security, you will be asked to create a PIN during the configuration process. This PIN is for the BlackBerry app only. It is not for your device.

Step 2

From your device’s home screen open the BlackBerry UEM Client app.

Step 3

Enter your Health email address and select the I accept the license agreement checkbox, then tap Next.

Step 4

Type the temporary password emailed to you from the BlackBerry administrator and tap Activate my device.

Important: If your device does not respond, please make sure you have turned off the Wi-Fi and try again.

Your password will expire after two days of receiving the email, please contact the IT Service Desk to get a new password.

Step 5

While the account is setting up a screen will appear that will scroll through the progress.

Step 6

Tap Next to activate the device administrator.

Step 7

Tap either Activate or Activate this device admin app on the next screen.

Depending on your device, the following screen may appear instead of the one above.

Important: In the event that the BYOD device is lost or stolen, agreeing to this message provides HealthIT with the ability to commence the process of erasing only BlackBerry data on the device (i.e. work data only).

Step 8

The next screen will continue from Step 5 and progress through the rest of the screens, you will then receive a notification email.

Important: Please allow up to 5 minutes for device activation and profile retrieval (this is subject to connectivity/reception).

Note: Some Samsung device users may receive the KLMS Agent message.

Select the I acknowledge that I have read and understood, and I agree to all of the terms and conditions above checkbox and tap CONFIRM.

Step 9

Type in and confirm a password, then tap OK.

Note: Information about the password requirements for BlackBerry can be viewed by tapping the Password Requirements link.

Step 10

The BlackBerry UEM Client will open and indicate where the Launcher icon is located.

When you tap on the screen, Compliant screen will appear that states that Your device is compliant with your department's policies.

You have completed the configuration of the BlackBerry UEM Client.

Download and install BlackBerry Work to access your Health email

Note: Each of the Health BlackBerry apps that are available in Work Apps can be downloaded and installed on your device from the Google Play Store.

Listed below are the steps required to complete the installation of BlackBerry Work.

Note: These steps take around 15 minutes to complete.

Step 1

Search for the BlackBerry Work app from the Google Play Store.

Tap the INSTALL button and the app will download and install to your device.

Step 2

Launch BlackBerry Work from the home screen.

Step 3

Tap OK to give the app permission to install on your device.

Step 4

Tap Allow to confirm that you agree for the UEM Client to make and manage phone calls.

Step 5

Tap Set up using the UEM client.

Important: Do not select Set up using your Access Key (or Delegate authority if that is shown).

Step 6

Enter the password you entered when you were setting up the UEM Client.

Step 7

Enter a new password and tap OK.

Note: This can be the same password as the previous step or a completely new password.

Step 8

Review the terms of the BLACKBERRY CLIENT END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT and tap I Agree to accept.

Step 9

In the Setup Account details, your work email address is automatically displayed.

Type in your current Health Central (desktop) password, and tap Next.

Step 10

Wait while your network details are verified.

When launcher screen is displayed, the verification is complete.

Tap the Launcher (blue) icon.

Portfolio Agency and HPRG staff troubleshooting

If verification fails (this is likely to occur for some Portfolio agency or HPRG staff) please enter the following details when prompted.

Server: mail.central.health

Domain: central

Password: [enter your Health Central (desktop) account password]

Note: Email address and Username fields will be shown, but not editable.

Note for HPRG users: if this verification also does not verify, enter your username as your [email protected] and reattempt, making sure that you are using your current Central (desktop)Health password.

Please call the IT Service Desk to check if your account is locked and reset your password if necessary.

How to uninstall BlackBerry

Uninstall instructions may vary between Android operating system versions.

Instructions are included below for the two most common ways of removing applications.

If after following these instructions, you are unable to uninstall the application, please contact your software vendor.

Delete the application via settings

Navigate to Settings > Biometrics and Security > Other Security Settings > Device Admin Apps > choose Blackberry UEM and select Uninstall.

Delete the application via drag and drop

1. Access your device's main menu. 2. Long-press on the app (hold your finger down until you feel a feedback vibration and

notice the screen has changed).

3. Drag the app icon to the trash can icon with the Uninstall label. 4. Select Yes when the dialog box appears asking to confirm that you would like to uninstall

the app.
