Installing TSS 11 Server on Windows

Preparing to Install the TSS 11 Server This installation process requires someone with Windows Server

administration knowledge that can apply operating system patches (if required) and create user accounts and groups.

Complete the following tasks before you install the TSS 11 Server application on a Windows server.

1. Read Release Notes and readme file.

2. Review minimum requirements.

3. Install operating system patches (if needed).

4. Identify available ports.

5. Design secure flat file data sources (if needed).

• Define Windows user group(s).

• Define any required Windows user accounts.

Review Release NotesYou’ll find Trillium Software System Release Notes available from the Trillium Software Support® site at www.trilliumsoftware.com.

Review Minimum RequirementsEnsure that the server conforms to the minimum software and hardware requirements specified in the Trillium Software System Release Notes, available from the Support page at trilliumsoftware.com.

Install Operating System PatchesRefer to the Trillium Software System Release Notes to determine if your Windows operating system requires a patch.

Installing TSS 11 Server on Windows

Identify Available PortsDuring installation, Trillium Software System® asks for at least 2 port numbers that are accessible from the client to the server and not blocked. These port numbers are used for:

TSS 11 Client (also called TSS 11)

TSS 11 Scheduler

License Server (if remotely hosted)

To find available port numbers

1. From the Windows Start menu, select Start > Run....

2. Type cmd.

3. Click OK.

4. At the prompt, type:

netstat -an

5. Press Enter.

Installing TSS 11 Server on Windows

6. Review the results. Select two ports that are not used by another application.

If the License Manager will be located on a separate machine, you will be prompted for the machine name and another port number that the license server is running on.

The numbers should be greater than 1000 and not exceed 65535, and for easy reference, should be consecutive numbers. (For example, 7600 for the Metabase Login port and 7601 for the TSS 11 Scheduler port.)

7. Make note of the available ports below. You will need them when you install the TSS 11 Server Application.

8. Type exit to close the window.

Design Secure Flat File Data SourcesThis is an optional step that is appropriate for securing flat file data sources.

If you require security for flat file data sources, you must define at least one Windows user account that can act as a TSS 11 loader user on the Windows server. When you create an Entity in Trillium Software System (that is based on a flat file data source), you are:

1. asked to choose a loader connection (created through the Metabase Manager and specifies the location of the flat file data and schema); and

If the License Server will be on the TSS 11 server (locally hosted), you need this information at installationMetabase Login Port (client port):

Metabase Scheduler Port (scheduler port):

If the License Server will NOT be on the TSS 11 server (remotely hosted), you need this additional information at installationLicense Server Host Name:

2. prompted for a username and password to access the data source stored on the TSS 11 server.

Example

If... then...no Windows Loader User accounts are defined,

you will not have to enter a username and password. All connections to flat file data sources are available to any TSS 11 user.

at least one Windows Loader User account is defined and:

has been granted read access to the directory defined by the loader connection.

you must enter a username and password to access those data sources through TSS 11.

Assume that you have 2 teams—Accounting and Human Resources that will create Entities based on flat file data sources.

If you do not want the Accounting team to have access to the data from Human Resources, you would:

create two Windows groups—one for Accounting and one for Human Resources;

create at least one Windows user id for each group that you created and add the user(s) to the appropriate group;

create two separate directories—one for the Accounting team (C:\accounting) and one for the Human Resources team (C:\HR);

edit the properties on each directory that you created and grant full access to the group that corresponds to the directory.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the TSS 11 Administrator (tssadmin) is not included in any group that has access to the directory.

Installing TSS 11 Server on Windows

Create a Secure Flat File Data Directory

The process for creating a secure area for flat file data sources is:

Create a Windows group for each secure area.

Create at least one Windows user id for each Windows group that you created and add the user(s) to the appropriate group.

Create a directory for each group.

Edit the properties on each directory that you created and grant full access to the group that corresponds to the directory.

To create a Windows user group for each secure location

A user group is only required if you plan to access data from flat file data sources requiring secure directory locations.

If you only intend to directly import data from a relational source, you do not need to perform this step since a Windows user id is not required. The only user required is RDBMS login access.

1. As the Windows Administrator, create a user group on the TSS 11 server to contain Windows user ids that can access a secure area.

There are no naming restrictions for group names, but it is recommended that you name it something meaningful.

2. From the Windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, Local Security Policy and add the new group to Local Policies, User Rights Assignment, Log on as a batch job.

Installing TSS 11 Server on Windows

3. Add the new user group.

To create a Windows user account that acts as TSS 11 loader

A Windows user account acting as a TSS 11 loader user is only required if you plan to access data from flat file data sources requiring secure directory locations.

The following steps can be done now or after you have defined your loader connections (page 6-9).

If you only intend to directly import data from a relational source, do not perform this step since a Windows user id is not required. The only user required is RDBMS login access.

1. Determine whether you will create a single user account that the team will share or if each user will have their own user account.

2. Create the Windows user account(s).

3. Add each user account (that will access the flat file data) to the appropriate Windows user group for each secure location (created in “Create a Windows group for each secure area.” on page 2-6).

IMPORTANT: User account not contained in the Windows Group, will not be able to import flat file data for that loader connection.

Limiting the Role of the TSS Metabase Administrator on WindowsIf you do not want the TSS Metabase Administrator account to be an Administrator account on the machine (and thereby have full control over the operating system), you can limit the role of the TSS Metabase Administrator account to that of a file owner for the application binaries and metabase files. The TSS Metabase Administrator would then be restricted from further interaction with the operating system.

To limit the role of the TSS Metabase Administrator on Windows

1. Create the following user accounts:

• madmin - TSS Metabase Administrator account

• muser - User account that is accessible by users of the TSS 11 - Metabase Server and that has access to the appropriate data sources

2. Apply the “Log on as Batch Job” group policy privilege to every user account that is to be used to access data through the TSS 11 Create Entity Wizard.

3. Install the TSS 11 - Metabase Server, and choose the option to install for madmin only.

4. Change all Trillium services to be run by Local Service. Apply the “Log on as Service” group policy privilege to the Local Service account.

5. Set the following directory permissions:

• Import directories − Grant permission for muser to read the directories where the data will be stored. Ensure that Local Service does not have permission to do so.

• Application directory − Grant full control permissions to Local Service and deny access for muser.

• Metabase directory − Grant full control permissions to Local Service and deny access for muser.

Installing TSS Server on UNIX

Verify Sudo is Installed (optional)Trillium Software System does not require the installation of sudo (Super User DO), but sudo is required on the TSS server if you would like to take advantage of TSS data security features.

If you have sudo installed, you can secure multiple data directory locations for flat file sources on the server.

Example

To verify that sudo is installed

Follow these steps to determine if the server has sudo installed:

1. Perform a UNIX search for sudo. It is usually located in the directory /usr/bin/.

If sudo exists, sudo is installed. If not, and you want to install it. Refer to your UNIX system administrator for more information on installing sudo.

Identify Available PortsDuring the installation Trillium Software System® asks for separate port numbers (accessible from the client to the server and not blocked) for the:

TSS Client

TSS Scheduler

License Manager (if hosted remotely)

If you have sudo installed on the server, you can provide Team A with access to data in the directory /team_a_data/ while restricting access from Team B who should have access to their own data in /team_b_data/

Data stored in these secure locations are then accessed and imported into TSS through the Create Entity Wizard of the TSS Client.

Installing TSS Server on UNIX

To find available port numbers

1. On the TSS server, you should:

• inspect the services file, located at: /etc/services, and

• type the command netstat -an to identify ports that have applications listening on them.

2. Decide on two free port numbers for the Client and Scheduler/License Manager.

If the License Manager will be located on a separate machine, you are prompted for the machine name and another port number that the license server is running on.

Port numbers should not exceed 65535 and ports less than 1024 are typically reserved. For easy reference, port numbers should be consecutive numbers. For example 7400 for Metabase port and 7401 for Scheduler port.

3. Make note of the port numbers and machine name:

If the License Server will be on the TSS server (locally hosted), you will need this information at installation

Metabase Login Port (client port):

Metabase Scheduler Port (scheduler port):

If the License Server will NOT be on the TSS server (remotely hosted), you will need this additional information at installation

License Server Host Name:

License Server Host Port:

Installing TSS Server on UNIX

Define UNIX User AccountsTrillium Software System (TSS) relies on two types of users: UNIX users and TSS users.

UNIX User Accounts

The users that you define in this section require UNIX user accounts. These users are described below.

TSS Users

During installation, you will create one TSS user—Metabase Administrator (aka Repository Boot User). This is detailed under “To install TSS 11 - Metabase Server and create Metabase Administrator” on page 3-9.

You will create the rest of the TSS Application users using the Metabase Manager after the installation completes. The process is defined in “Manage TSS 11 Users” on page 6-7.

Application Administratorcreated through UNIX

UNIX userid that installs the TSS Server application and administers the TSS Scheduler and License Manager.

Loader Usercreated through UNIXNot required if you plan to directly access data from relational sources (IBM DB2, Oracle, ODBC). You will, however, need a userid that gives you access to each specific database.

Required if loading data from flat file sources (delimited, COBOL defined, Trillium files).

UNIX userid that can access (through a login screen in the TSS interface) data import directories located on the TSS server.

Metabase Administratorcreated during TSS installation

TSS user account that creates and maintains TSS Repositories, defines Metabases, TSS users, and data connections. This user is also known as the Repository Boot User.

TSS Usercreated after installation through TSS Metabase Manager

TSS user account that can access TSS Metabase(s) through TSS client interface. Users should not access the TSS Metabases as the Repository Boot User (administrator only).

Installing TSS Server on UNIX

Sudo configuration

If you are leveraging the security features of sudo, the user installing the Trillium Software System® application must have sudo rights and ensure that sudo is properly configured.

Skip these steps if sudo is not installed at your site.

To grant sudo rights to a user

1. As the UNIX root user, type the command: visudo.

This brings up the file named sudoers for editing.

IMPORTANT: You must always edit this file through the visudo command.

2. In the Defaults: specification section, add the following entries:

Defaults:<user_id> targetpwDefaults:<user_id> passwd_tries=1Defaults:<user_id> timestamp_timeout=0

Example

3. In the User Privilege specification section, add:

<user_id> ALL=(ALL) ALL

Example

4. Save the file and exit.

If the TSS Application Administrator user_id is tssadmin, add the following entries:

Defaults:tssadmin targetpwDefaults:tssadmin passwd_tries=1Defaults:tssadmin timestamp_timeout=0

If the TSS Application Administrator user_id is tssadmin, add:

tssadmintssadmin ALL=(ALL) ALL

Installing TSS Server on UNIX

To verify that sudo is correctly configured

To properly verify sudo configuration, you should perform the following steps twice.

1. Type:

sudo -u <user id> id

2. When prompted, enter the password for the user.

3. Type the command: id

The operating system should return the UNIX uid of the user. If not, contact your System Administrator.

Example

Define TSS Loader User(s) to Access Flat File Sources

Define a TSS Loader User account on the UNIX server if you plan to import data from flat files. When you import flat file data into Trillium Software System, you will access the file location on the server through a UNIX userid.

For example, if you are importing flat files described by COBOL copybooks that are residing on the TSS server in the directory /data, then you require a TSS Loader User (UNIX userid) that can log on to the TSS server and read the files from /data.

You will define the data storage locations when you create data import connections after installation.

If the TSS Loader user is “loader1”, the command and result would look similar to:

Installing and Managing Trillium Software System 3-7

Page 48: Installing and Managing Trillium Software Systemonlineauthoring.com/WritingSamples/PDFs/TSS_Install_guide.pdf · Installing and Managing Trillium Software System i Table of Contents

Installing TSS Server on UNIX

The following steps can be done now or after you define your Loader Connections.

To create a TSS Loader User (for flat file data sources)

If you intend to only import data directly from a relational source, you do not need to perform this step since a UNIX userid is not required. The only user required is for RDBMS login access.

1. Define a new UNIX user account or use an existing user account to act as a TSS Loader User.

2. In either case, make sure that the TSS Loader User account has read access to the data import directory that you will define when you create a Loader Connection.

All flat file data to be imported into TSS must reside on the local server disk. TSS Loader Users will NOT be able to import flat file data into TSS without access to the data import directories.

In this book, this path will be referred to as the Server Path. You will be asked to specify a path for the Repository (Metabases) in the next step. These 2 paths should be distinct. For example, if you specify the Server Path as /trillium/server/, and you want this to be the root for both the Server and Repository paths, then make sure that the Repository Path has its own unique directory. In this example, you could define the Repository path as /trillium/repository/ without any issues.

9. At the prompt: Where would you like to install your metabases?, enter a directory location for your metabase directory and press Enter.

This directory will hold the TSS Repository (containing one or more Metabases) on this server. This book will refer to this path as the Repository Path.

You were asked to specify a Server Path in the last step. These 2 paths should be distinct. For example, if you specified the Server Path as /trillium/server/, and you want this to be the root for both the Server and Repository paths, then make sure that the Repository Path has its own unique directory. Setting Up and Connecting to Relational Databases

To modify the .TSDiscovery file on a UNIX Server

The following steps are only necessary for TSS Servers on UNIX. If an Oracle/DB2 client is installed on the TSS Server for Windows, the environment information is automatically located through the system environment variables.

When working with Trillium Software System, Inetd accesses the TSDiscovery file to gather environment information. By making the following changes to the TSDiscovery file, you are ensuring that the Trillium Software System knows how to access Oracle and IBM DB2 databases.

1. Log on the TSS Server as UNIX root user.

2. Stop the Scheduler.

See “To stop the TSS Scheduler” on page 11-14.

3. Go to the home directory of the user that installed Trillium Software System.

4. Type the command ls -al and locate the file named .TSDiscovery.

5. Open the file named .TSDiscovery for editing.

6. Add an entry to the file based on the following table:

Relational Database

Add...

Oracle the entry:export ORACLE_HOME=<path to Oracle client>

IBM DB2 an entry to run the db2profile script that is supplied with IBM DB2.

Precede the script with a “.” to ensure the environment gets updated.

For example:. /home/db2inst/lib/db2profile

CHAPTER 6 Managing TSS 11 Repositories

Installing and Man

This chapter describes steps for configuring and managing Metabases in a Trillium Software System® Repository. It includes information about:

Managing TSS 11 Metabases

Managing TSS 11 Users

Managing Loader Connections

Creating backups of TSS 11 Repositories

In the Trillium Software System, a Repository is a collection of one or more Metabases with has its own set of users, data connections, security, and performance settings.

Each Trillium Software System (TSS 11) Server installation installs a single Repository. An administrator must then configure Metabases for the installed Repository.

The Metabase Manager is an administrative tool that gives you access to each Repository allowing you to administer TSS 11 Metabases, add TSS 11 Users, manage Loader Connections, and configure security.

There can be only one Repository per installation of the TSS 11 Server Application. On Windows servers, you can install one Repository per

server. On UNIX servers, you can install multiple Repositories on one server. The Trillium Software System user interface (client) accesses the Repositories you define for your site.

Using the Metabase ManagerThe Metabase Manager is an administrative tool that helps you add one or more Metabases to a Repository and set up the connections to data sources. It also allows an administrator to manage the users who will have access to the data in the Metabase.

You can access the Metabase Manager from the Windows Start menu.

To log on to the Metabase Manager

1. From a TSS 11 client, open the Metabase Manager by clicking on the Windows Start Menu and selecting Trillium Software System, TSS 11, Metabase Manager.

2. After the Metabase Manager displays, select a Repository from the list.

Managing TSS 11 Repositories

Getting Started with the Metabase WizardA Metabase Administrator must add and configure the Metabases in a Repository and make them accessible to users. At minimum, the Metabase must be connected to specific data sources (for data import), and users must be given access to the Metabases in which they plan to work. Additionally, security needs to be set up so that unauthorized users do not have access to the data in a Metabase.

If you are setting up a Metabase for the first time, you may find it helpful to use the Get Started Wizard in the Metabase Manager. The Get Started Wizard describes the first steps you must take to configure a Metabase, add users and loader connections, and modify settings.

The Metabase Setup checklist on page 6-4 lists the Get Started Wizard steps and guides you through your first Metabase setup. Please refer to each topic referenced in the checklist for more information.

To open the Get Started Wizard

1. From the Metabase Manager main menu, select Tools > Get Started Wizard. A step-by-step description of how to use the Wizard displays in the right pane.

2. Scroll through the text and follow the steps to configure your first Metabase.

Field DescriptionInvalidate user password after

Determines how long a new password is valid. At the end of this time period, TSS 11 prompts the user for a new password and the cycle begins again.

Number of unrepeatable old passwords:

Number of times an old password can be set.

Valid Password regular expression:

Example 1Only allow passwords with a minimum of 6 characters.Type the regular expression: .{6}

Example 2Only allow passwords that are:

5 through 16 characters long andcontain only alpha numerics (including underscore _ character).

Type the regular expression: {^\w{5,16}$}

Explanation: Match whole string using the ^ (start) and $ (ending) meta-characters. Next we say we want to match alpha numerics ([a-zA-Z0-9]) for which we use the \w meta-character. And we add the constraint of 5 characters minimum and 16 characters maximum {5,16}

Example 3Only allow passwords that:

are at least 10 characters long, contain at least one lower case letter, one upper case letter, one digit, and one special character allow the special characters (which are configurable): @#$%^&+=

{^.*(?=.{10,})(?=.*\d)(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z])(?=.*[@#$%^&+=]).*$}

Invalid Password regular expression:

Example 1If you type the regular expression .{9} then only those passwords with a maximum length of 8 characters are valid.

Example 2If you type the regular expression {^[a-zA-Z]*$} then passwords that contain only alphabetic characters (of upper and lower case) are invalid. This effectively means that passwords are required to contain non-alphabetic characters.

Managing TSS 11 Repositories

Manage Loader ConnectionsTo import data into a Metabase, you must have at least one Loader Connection for each type of data source (COBOL, DB2, Delimited, ODBC, Oracle, or Trillium) that you intend to profile.

You must be logged on the Metabase Manager as the Metabase Administrator to add, edit, and delete Loader Connections.

Security Note: A Loader Connection is accessible by all Metabases in a Repository; therefore, take precautions to ensure that security for data sources is adequate and will prevent unauthorized access.

Example

If you are adding Loader Connections to relational sources, make sure that your relational data sources are properly configured before trying to create Entities.

To add a Loader Connection

1. Log on to the Metabase Manager.

2. Expand the Control Admin folder.

3. Right-click Metabase Loader Connections and select Add Loader Connection....

You can also select Tools > Add Load Connection from the Metabase Manager main menu.

4. Specify a Name and Description.

Assume that you have 2 data analysis teams both working with delimited-based data sources stored on a UNIX server. By creating 2 separate Loader Connections pointing to 2 separate file locations on the server, you can segregate and, therefore, control access to the data with user account login access. In this example, you would create:

Team A Loader Connection pointing to /teamA_data/ with login access to this directory only.

Team B Loader Connection pointing to /teamB_data/ with login access to this directory only.

Change Loader Cache SizeThe Loader Cache Size specifies the maximum memory allowed for the load process. If possible, configure the cache size value to be the maximum size your hardware allows without relying on virtual memory.

To change the loader cache size

You must be logged on to the Metabase Manager to perform these steps. Changing these settings affects the entire Repository.

1. Log on to the Metabase Manager.

2. Expand Control Admin.

3. Right-click Loader Connections and select Edit Loader Settings....

4. Make changes based on the information below.

5. Click OK.

Disable Key/Dependency Checks at Load TimeBy default, Trillium Software System automatically performs Key and Dependency analysis on a sample of your data (10,000 rows) during data import to find possible Keys and Dependencies. If you are not interested in finding Keys or Dependencies during data import, you can disable this setting.

Disabling the Key and/or Dependency Analysis improves the load performance when you import data. However, if the Dependency or Key Analysis is not run during the data import process, you must manually perform the analysis using the Trillium Software System user interface. For more information, see the

Setting Description

Loader Cache Size

Specifies maximum memory allowed for the load process.**Be sure to change this value to be as large as your site’s hardware will tolerate without relying on virtual memory.

On multiple CPU systems, this process can run multiple times in parallel. In this scenario, memory is shared across all processes to ensure that it does not exceed the limit you define.

Managing TSS 11 Repositories

Creating TSS 11 Repository BackupsIt is recommended that you backup your Repositories (data directories) on a regular basis.

You do not need to backup the tmp directory.

Backup images should only be taken when TSS 11 users are not logged on to the Trillium Software System, background tasks are not running, and the license service (usually running in the scheduler) is stopped.

Backup and Restore on Windows ServersTo backup a Repository on Windows

1. Log on to the TSS 11 Server as the TSS 11 Administrator (tssadmin).

2. Make sure that there are no TSS 11 activities running on the server.

This is very important. Stopping the TSS 11 Scheduler while a TSS 11 activity (data imports, Join processing, etc.) is running could leave a Metabase in an unstable state.

3. Open the Windows Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

4. Right-click on Service TSS 11 - Scheduler and select Stop.

5. Right-click on Service TSS 11 - inetd and select Stop.

CHAPTER 9 Updating Postal and Census/DPV Directories

Installing and Man

This chapter describes how to update and validate the postal and census/DPV directories for TSS 11 - Quality Core. It includes this information:

About Update Options

Validating Postal/Census/DPV Directory File Integrity

Page 144: Installing and Managing Trillium Software Systemonlineauthoring.com/WritingSamples/PDFs/TSS_Install_guide.pdf · Installing and Managing Trillium Software System i Table of Contents

Updating Postal and Census/DPV Directories

About Update OptionsThe CITY Tables, Country Templates, and Census/DPV directory files are delivered on CD/DVD and are initially installed as part of the TS 11 Quality Core product.

You must download Postal Table updates from the Trillium Software FTP site. The Postal Table updates are compressed into a single file that is used as input to the TableUpdate.exe installation program. When you install the Postal Table updates, the CITY Tables are updated.

We recommend that you periodically perform a Postal Table update.

Installation LocationTrillium Software requires that postal directory files be installed on the server where the TSS 11 - Quality Core software is located. By default, postal files are installed in C:\TrilliumSoftware\tsq11r0s\tables\postal_tables and census/DPV files are installed in C:\TrilliumSoftware\tsq11r0s\tables-\census_tables. By default, postal files for China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan are installed in C:\TrilliumSoftware\tsq11r0s\tables\aptables.

Your location may differ, but will be prefixed by a drive letter.

Update ProceduresYou may use one of two methods to update postal and census/DPV directory files:

1. Use an automated program supplied by Trillium Software to uncompress the files, install to your selected location, and update the server software installation log with this information.

2. Manually uncompress the files, move them to your selected location, and manually update the server software installation log with this information.

Method #1 is strongly recommended for new installations and can be executed by anyone with write access to the server.

Updating Postal and Census/DPV Directories

Updating Postal or Census/DPV Directory FilesYou can use the TableUpdate.exe automated program to update the postal and/or census/DPV directory files. The TableUpdate.exe program is packaged with the directory files on the same CD/DVD.

Updating with the Automated ProgramTo update using the automated program

1. Copy TableUpdate.exe from the CD/DVD or FTP site to a temporary location where you will extract the directory files. If you received TableUpdate.tsq from the FTP site, rename it to TableUpdate.exe first. This location should be different from your production location so that file integrity can be validated prior to being implemented by production TSS 11 - Quality Core processes.

2. Double-click the program name in Windows Explorer. Or, select Start > Programs > Trillium Software System >T S Quality > v11 > Update Postal Tables on the desktop. The Table Update window appears.

a. In the Tables File text box, specify the location of the compressed file containing the directory files. This file is located on the CD/DVD or was installed on your machine from an FTP session. The file name will use the format XXMMM.exe if on a CD/DVD or XXMMM.tsq if downloaded from the FTP site.

b. In the Install Directory text box, specify the target location for the uncompressed directory files. It is recommended that this be a temporary location and that file integrity be validated prior to moving to a production location.

Updating Postal and Census/DPV Directories

Updating Directory Files ManuallyTo update directory files manually

1. Copy the compressed file from the CD/DVD or FTP site to a temporary location.

2. Double-click the file name in Windows Explorer to uncompress it. The expanded files will be placed into the temporary folder location.

a. If these files are updates, proceed to Step 3.

b. If these files are being installed for the first time, copy the files to the desired production location on the server and proceed to Step 4.

3. Before the postal and census/DPV directory files can be updated, you must perform the following steps:

a. Stop any real-time or batch TSS 11 - Quality Core processes

b. Copy the files into the production location

c. Restart production TSS 11 - Quality Core processes

4. For a new installation of postal and/or census/DPV directory files, the TSS 11 - Quality Core software installation log must be updated to reflect the files installed. This file is named install_log.txt and is located in the server install location at \TrilliumSoftware\tsq11r0s\Settings. The file must contain one entry per country of postal directory files installed, as in this example:

• postal US

• postal CAThe two-letter country code represents the country of postal file directories installed on the server. The entries start in the first column of the file; only one country entry per line is allowed.

Updating Postal and Census/DPV Directories

Validating Postal/Census/DPV Directory File IntegrityIt is strongly recommended that you check the file integrity of postal/census/DPV directory files before using them in your projects. Do this to ensure the integrity of the installed files.

Validate with the TUHASH UtilityTo validate newly-installed postal and census/DPV files, you should run the TUHASH utility and compare the hash values to those included with the update.

The HASHVAL.TXT file, included on each CD/DVD, contains a list of values generated by TUHASH. Use these values to check the integrity of the data after installation.

If your resulting hash values differ from the ones included with the software, please contact Trillium Software Customer Support.

Find the Hash Value of a File (tuhash)The tuhash utility provides a means to determine if two files are the same. It performs a byte-by-byte evaluation of the input file and returns a resulting numerical value (called the hash value) to the screen. You can then run the utility on another file and compare the hash values to see if they are the same value.

This utility generates values for monthly postal updates that are delivered with updates. Customers can install the postal directories on their system, run the utility on each file, and compare the values to the ones provided. If the values match, the postal directories are installed properly. This process can be applied to any file.

The default record length is 1. Note that, for larger files, using a record length of 1 makes the hash program run very slowly. For Z/OS specify the record length of the file. For other systems, specify the logical record length of the file if it is fixed-length. Otherwise, specify a number that can be divided evenly into the file size.

Uninstalling TSS 11 - Quality Core Software

Uninstalling TSS 11 - Quality Core on UNIXIn order to successfully uninstall the TSS 11 - Quality Core, you need to remove various directories and also entries from several files.

Before You BeginBefore you begin to uninstall TSS 11 - Quality Core on UNIX, check that all users are logged off the TSS 11 - Quality Core application on the server.

On UNIX platforms, TSS 11 creates in the installer’s home directory a subdirectory named InstallShield. This directory contains the VPD (Vital Product Data), which keeps track of what is installed. The uninstaller.bin executable makes use of the information in this directory. If one user installs the TSS 11 Server, and a different user attempts to uninstall it while the original installer is not logged onto the system, the home directory containing the VPD will not be available. As a result, a message like the following appears:

engine is missing (/home/<user>/InstallShield/Universal/common/Gen1): run installation from source media

Be sure that either the user who installed TSS 11 - Quality Core also uninstalls the software or is logged onto the system when another user begins the uninstall.
