Installing “RadarOpus” on Window 8 or 8.1InstallationYou can install RadarOpus from a DVD, from a Memory Stick, or via a full program Download.

It is absolutely needed to temporarily turn off the Virus scanner before you start the installation. It is also always a good practice to make a restore point and/or general backup of your computer

(your personal files) before you install any program.

Learning Windows 8To understand Windows 8, you should realize the following things:

The old Windows Start-button (left lower corner) has become in Windows 8 the full Start screen (The Metro screen).

In Windows 8 there are two types of programs: Windows 8 Apps, and (traditional) Desktop programs. Both type of programs can be started from the same Windows 8 Start screen.

A Windows 8 Apps run only in full screen, a traditional program runs on the Desktop.

How to start RadarOpusAfter installing RadarOpus, a program icon will have been placed on the Windows 8 Start window.

You can click on the RadarOpus icon, or You can just start to type “RadarOp….” And a search window at the right will

open. You can then just press enter.

Attention: Just start to type the name of the program you want to start, then press enter.

(even if that program might not have a icon on the Start screen it will work).

DesktopBecause RadarOpus is a desktop program it will switch to the (traditional) desktop.

It is also possible to place program icons (short cuts) on the Desktop for all programs you like. Or you can also place program icons on the Taskbar.

How to create a Taskbar icon

Step 1: From the Windows 8 Start screen

Right mouse click on the icon you want to add an icon to the Taskbar.(select the RadarOpus icon).

Step 2: From the options menu which then opens at the bottom of the screen you can select: Pin to Taskbar

The result will be that when you switch to the traditional Desktop, the icon has been added to the taskbar.

How to create a Desktop iconIf you want to create a shortcut on the Desktop itself, you need to do the following:

Step 1: You right mouse click on the program icon on the Windows 8 start screen:

Step 2: Select from the option bar at the bottom Open file location.

Step 3: Then right mouse click on the program name you want to add to the Desktop, and select Create shortcut.

You may need to confirm that it needs to be added to the desktop.

Afterwards you will have a RadarOpus shortcut added to the Desktop.(The screen shows both a Desktop and a Taskbar icon)

In a similar manner you can create program shortcuts for all you other software.

Tips: It is also possible let your computer startup directly with the desktop. Read

more in the chapter Tips using Windows 8.

Remember that you can also switch back to the Start screen (with the Windows key on the keyboard, or with the Left lower corner), and just start to type the name of the program you like to start, then press enter.

If you like, you can let Windows 8 start directly with the Desktop. (Read more in the chapter Tips using Windows 8).

Installing “RadarClassic” 10.5 on Window 8 or 8.1

Installation of RadarClassic 10.5RadarClassic 10.5 installs and works well on Windows 8. There are a few small issues to consider:You can install Radar from an internal or external DVD drive.

It is best to temporarily turn off the Virus scanner before you start the installation. It is also always a good practice to make a general backup of your computer (your personal files)

before you install any program. Usually it is best to select during installation only one repertory to be opened automatically. Select

the repertory you will use most frequently, for example Synthesis Treasure After installation place the Radar USB key on the computer.

If it is a computer with a 64 bits processor, make sure you read the instructions about this before you start the installation. (Read below: Support: EH does not start). During installation a small window might stay open (get stuck). You can continue by closing this window. You may need to follow a few steps to allow the Encyclopeadia Homeopathica to be opened.

If After installation Radar does not start, and gives a message “no key found”, then you may need to install a new USB-driver: (Read below: Support: Fow to install a new HASP driver).

How to start Radar from the Windows Start screen After installation several program icons related to “Radar” will have been placed on the new Windows

8 start screen.

If you like you may delete some of the icons which you will not need very often.

Keep the following icons: Radar 10 Encyclopeadia Homeopathica Winchip Repertory utilities Radar Backup

You can start Radar with a click on the Radar icon.

Or you can just start to type “Radar…”

At the right side a search window opens.Then just press enter to start the program.

How to add icons to the Desktop or TaskbarIf you prefer to start Radar or EH from the traditional Window Desktop there are two possibilities:

You can Pin (add) the icons Radar, EH, Winchip to the Taskbar You can add icons to on the Desktop window itself.

How to create a Taskbar icon

Step 1: Right mouse click on the icon you want to add an icon to the Taskbar:

Step 2: From the options menu which then opens at the bottom of the screen you can select: Pin to Taskbar

The result will be that when you switch to the traditional Desktop, the icon has been added to the taskbar.

How to create a Desktop iconIf you want to create a program icon on the traditional Desktop itself, do the following:

Step 1: You right mouse click on the program icon on the Windows 8 start screen:

Step 2: Select from the option bar at the bottom ‘Open file location’.

Step 3: Then right mouse click on the program icon you want to add to the Desktop, and select “Create shortcut”

Then a program shortcut will have been placed on the traditional Windows Desktop.

You will need to do the above steps for all program icons you want to be added to the Taskbar and/or the Desktop.

Tips: It is also possible let your computer startup directly with the desktop. (Read

Support: EH does not startOn some computers with a 64 bits processor, during installation an error message will appear, and then after installation EH will not start, with following error message:

Runtime error when installation EHThis is a typical error when installing EH on a computer with a 64 bits processor (Windows 7, Windows 8 or 8.1). Error messages are: Runtime error and registering module Rmsrv4.dll

During the installation of the EH program when the Folio Components locks up on a dll file (A small window might stay stuck) just close it (click on the X icon).

Then it is not needed to search for a solution. Continue with the installation until the end.

After installation, you need to do the following manually to be able to start EH.

After EH is installed do the following1. Create a Shortcut on the Windows 8 desktop (as described

above)2. Start the Windows Explorer or click on the Start button and

choose Computer (See the Explorer icon in the left lower corner on the task bar)

3. Go to the folder C:\EH

Attention: There is a difference between Windows 8.0 or Windows 8.1

For Windows 8.0: Right mouse click on Autoreg

Then select: Troubleshoot compatibility

Then click on: Troubleshoot program

Select: The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now

Select: Windows XP (Service pack 3), then Next

Then click on: Test the program

Attention: You will probably need to confirm that a program is allowed to run(see a icon in the task bar jumping)

Then close the Windows explorer.

For Windows 8.1:

Right click on the AutoReg file, then left click on Properties

Under the Compatibility Tab, change the Compatibility Mode to Windows XP, SPII. Then Click on Apply and then OK.

Continuation for both Windows 8.0 and 8.1

4. Go back to the AutoReg file. Right click, and select Run as administrator

You will see this time quickly something being executed.

(Make sure you have Admin privileges for the computer)

5. From the windows Desktop: Right click on the EH icon. Then left click on Properties,

6. Click on the Compatibility Tab and make sure that the Compatibility mode is also set for Windows XP SPII.

Click on Apply and then on OK.

7. From the Desktop icon, now Right click on the EH icon.

Then click on: and Run As Administrator.

The program should open.

8. The first time you need to select your book package (Your EH database). This is normally a file like: ….(Ask your Radar representative for advise which file you have).

The next time you want to open the EH program, you can just double click on the EH icon on the desktop.

Support: How to install a new HASP driverIf Radar 10.5 gives an error message “Usb Key not found” and you have Windows 8:- go to the website: www.archibel.com. - Then select Support & Downloads,

Then Knowledge Base.- Search for “Hasp”- Then open “Installing USB key drivers

for Radar 10.5”

On the next page select: “For users of Windows 8”.

And follow the instructions.

You need to download two files. Extract (un-zip) the files. Then install both installer files (.exe)

with a double click on each file.

Attention: if the diver file fails to install then make sure you check the following two things. 1. Make sure the virus scanner is turned off. 2. Right mouse click on the downloaded installer file, then select Run as Administrator.

Tips using Window 8

As mentioned already above, to understand Windows 8 you need to realize the following things: The old Windows Start-button (left lower corner) has become in Windows 8 the full Start

screen (The Metro screen). In Windows 8 there are two types of programs: Windows 8 Apps, and (traditional) Desktop

programs. Both type of programs can be started from the same Windows 8 Start screen. A Windows 8 Apps run only in full screen, a traditional program runs on the Desktop.

Starting programs All programs can be started from the Windows 8 Start screen by just starting to type the name

of the program. Then at the right side a Search bar opens. When you see that the correct program is highlighted, then just press enter to start the program.

(A Win 8 App will start full screen, a Desktop program opens also full screen on the ‘Desktop’).

In this example you see “RadarOp….” was typed. Then just press enter to start it.

Four active cornersMake sure you know about the 4 active corners in the Start screen.Especially the right lower corner

Startup Windows 8 directly with the DesktopBy default the new Windown 8 Start screen opens when you turn on your computer. It is possible to change it so that the Desktop will open by default. You can do this with the following steps: Go to the Desktop window. Then open at the right side the “charms

bar”. Select Control panel. Then Taskbar and navigation. Then from the navigation tab, turn on the

option: When I sign in or close all applications on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start.

How to create a Taskbar icon

Step 1: From the Windows 8 Start screen

Right mouse click on the icon you want to add an icon to the Taskbar.

Step 2: From the options menu which then opens at the bottom of the screen you can select: Pin to Taskbar

The result will be that when you switch to the traditional Desktop, the icon has been added to the taskbar.

How to create a Desktop iconIf you want to create a shortcut on the Desktop itself, you need to do the following:

The Windows-key on the keyboardIf you are on the desktop, remember that you can to use the Windows-key on the keyboard to quickly open again the Start screen. You then can just start to type the first characters of any program you like to open, then press enter. For example: type WOR… “enter” to start Microsoft WORD.

Organize the Start screenYou can drag any tile to a new location, so you can organize your Start screen as you like.

Add title (header) for groups of iconsIf you Right mouse click on any tile, you can add or change the header name of that group.

How to close a Win 8 AppAlthough it is not needed anymore to close Win 8 Apps, you still can do so manually by holding the mouse all the way at the top edge of the screen, then drag it all the way to the bottom edge.

Computer & Windows Settings (two locations)You should be aware of the fact that there are two location where you can find computer settings. And not all options are mentioned in both menus!

(one) Via the right lower corner: Change PC settings.

(two) Open the Desktop window, and also in the charms bar look for: Control Panel.

Adapt the Taskbar You can also adapt the taskbar and add for example a “desktop link” which will open a list of all icons placed on the desktop.

You can do this with a Right mouse click on the taskbar, then via Toolbars, select Desktop.
