2 Getting Started

Installation and service of thisappliance should be performed byqualifiedpersonnel.Hearth&HomeTechnologies recommends HHTFactory Trained or NFI Certifiedprofessionals.

Floor ProtectionPlace thestoveonanon-combustible floorprotector thatextendsaminimumof6inchestothefront(152mm),6”tothesides(152mm)and0”(152mm)totherear,whichisflushwiththerearofthehopper.Frontandsidefloorprotectionmeasurementsaremadefromthefireboxorwindowopening.Floorprotectionmustalsobepositionedunderhorizontalfluepipe,extending2”(51mm)beyondeachsideofthepipe.NOTE for Canadian installation only:PerULC-S627-00,If installedona combustible floor, the need to provideanoncombustiblefloorprotectorcoveringtheareabeneaththespace heater andextendingatleast17-3/4”(450mm)onthefiringsideandatleast7-7/8”(200mm)ontheothersides.In Canada, you may follow smaller U.S. floor protection requirements ONLY if the user agrees to completely shut-down the appliance, and allow it to cool to where all fire is extinguished and the combustion blower and its indicator light shuts off, prior to opening the firebox door or ash door.Theminimum floor protectormaterial is 20 gauge sheetmetal.Otherfloorprotectormaterialsareceramictile,stone,brick,etc.Floor protector minimum: 36” X 36” (914mm X 914mm).*Floor protection dimensions for the front and sides aremeasured fromtheappliancedooropening inTheUnitedStates.InCanada,thesidedimensionismeasuredfromthewidestpartoftheappliance. When installing this unit in a mobile home severalrequirementsmustbefollowed(ReferenceHUDRegulation#24CFR3280):• Theunitmustbeboltedtothefloor.Thiscanbedoneby

usingclips(part#2-00-677110B)and1/4”lagscrews.• Theunitmustbeconnectedtooutsideair.SeeSection

4-D.• Floor protection and clearancesmust be followed as

shownabove.• Theappliancemustbeproperlygroundedtotheframeof

themobilehomeusingaminimumof8AWGcoppersolidorstranded,insulatedorbarewireorequivalent.

• Chimneymustmeet requirements ofCAN/ULC-S629,Standard for 650°C Factory Built Chimneys. FollowManufacturer ’s guidelines concerning height andclearancestocombustibles.Usethesamemanufacturer’scomponentstoprovideaneffectivevaporbarrierwherethechimneyorothercomponentpenetratestotheexteriorofthemobilehome.DO NOT MIX COMPONENTS FROM DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS. The top section ofchimneyandthechimneycapmustberemovabletoamaximumheight of 13-1/2’ for transport of themobilehome.

INSTALL VENT AT CLEARANCES SPECIFIED BY THE VENT MANUFACTURER#1 Preferred method (Figure 4.1)

Thismethodprovidesexcellentventingfornormaloperationandallowsthestovetobeinstalledclosesttothewall.Twoinches from thewall is safe; however, four inchesallowsbetteraccesstoremovetherearpanel.Theverticalportionoftheventshouldbethreetofivefeethigh.Thisverticalsectionwillhelpprovidenaturaldraftintheeventofapowerfailure.Sealpipejointswithsiliconeoraluminumtapeinadditiontothesealingsystemusedbythemanufacturer.Do not place joints within wall pass-through.

#2 Preferred method (Figure 4.2)

Thismethod also provides excellent venting for normaloperationbutrequiresthestovetobeinstalledfartherfromthewall.Theverticalportionoftheventshouldbethreetofivefeethighandatleast1”fromacombustiblewall.Thisvertical sectionwill providenaturaldraft in theeventofapowerfailure.Sealpipejointswithsiliconeoraluminumtapeinadditiontothesealingsystemusedbythemanufacturer.If the stove is installed below grade be sure the venttermination is at least 12” above grade. The outlet must also be 1 foot from the house/building.Do not place joints within wall pass-through.

CAUTION!KEEP COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS (SUCH AS GRASS, LEAVES, ETC.) AT LEAST 3 FEET AWAY FROM THE FLUE OUTLET ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING.

DO NOT USE MAKESHIFT COMPROMISES WHEN INSTALLING THIS APPLIANCE. DAMAGE AND/OR INJURY MAY RESULT.

#3 Installing into an existing chimney (Figure 4.3)

Thismethodprovidesexcellentventingfornormaloperation.Thismethodalsoprovidesnatural draft in theevent of apowerfailure.Ifthechimneyconditionisquestionable*youmaywanttoinstallalinerasinmethod#7.InsomeplacesintheUSandCanadaitisrequiredthattheventpipeextendallthewaytothetopofthechimney.*The chimney should be inspected and cleaned beforeinstallingyourstove.Ifyoudiscoverthatthechimneydoesnothaveaclaytilelinerorhascracksorflakingofthetileliner youwill need to install a stainless steel linerwithinthechimney.Inmostcasestheinsidediameterofthislinershouldbe4”.Eitherflexibleorrigidlinermaybeusedforthispurpose.RefertoMethod6&7.Sealpipejointswithsiliconeoraluminumtapeinadditiontothesealingsystemusedbythemanufacturer.Besuretodesigntheventingsothatitcanbeeasilycleaned.

Pelletventingpipe(alsoknownasTypeLvent)isconstructedof two layerswith air spacebetween the layers.This airspaceactsasaninsulatorandreducestheoutsidesurfacetemperaturetoallowaclearancetocombustiblesofonly1inch.Thesectionsofpipelocktogethertoformanairtightsealinmostcases;however,insomecasesaperfectsealisnotachieved.ForthisreasonandthefactthattheP-Seriesoperateswithapositiveventpressure,wespecifythatthejointsalsobesealedwithsilicone.Wherepassingthroughanexteriorwallorroof,besuretousetheappropriatepass-throughdeviceprovidinganadequatevaporbarrier.Ventingmanufacturersgenerallyprovidethesepass-throughdevices.Vent Configurations:To reduce probability of reverse drafting during shut-down conditions,Hearth&HomeTechnologies stronglyrecommends:• Installingthepelletventwithaminimumverticalrunof

fivefeet,preferablyterminatingabovetheroofline.• Installingtheoutsideairintakeatleastfourfeetbelow

D. Room Sensor InstallationTheroomsensorisasmalltemperaturesensorontheendofa60"wire.Thissensorisinstalledmuchlikeastandardwallthermostat.Thereisaremoteroomsensorportontherearoftheunitforeasyexternalconnection.Usestandard18-2thermostatwiretoextendthesensortothedesiredlocation(50'maximum).Theroomsensorshouldbeinstalledinthelocationwhereyouwanttocontrolthetemperature.Distancesofmorethan25feetfromtheunitorinanotherroomarenotrecommended.TheroomsensorisessentialfortheXXV'sexcellentefficiency.NOTE:Itisrecommendedthattheroomsensorbeinstalled,evenifonlyinstalledontherearoftheunitasareturnairsensor.

E. Low Draft Voltage AdjustmentTheseunitsarepre-testedatthefactorywithexactly120VAC,60Hz.Theyarecheckedandadjustedforfireboxtightness,gasketleakage,motoroperationandigniteroperation.TheXXVisthenfactorysetatamid-pointadjustmentandinmostcaseswillnotneedanyadjustments.The factory low draft setting may not be correct for the unit’s permanent installation conditions.ThecontrolboardontheXXVisequippedwithalowdraftadjustmentportlocatedonthecontrolfacejusttotherightof the igniter light. Figure 5.4.This voltageadjustment isprovidedtoallowtheunittobeadjustedforthehouseholdvoltagewheretheunitisgoingtobeinpermanentoperation. The line voltage varies from area to area and often home to home.Thelowdraftvoltageshouldbeadjustedtoachievethemostefficient burnon lowburnor “maintenance”.This voltageadjustmentallowstheinstallertochangethelowvoltagesetpointapproximately10volts.Thisadjustmentshouldbedonebytheinstallerduringsetupbecauseadraftmeterreadingis required toinsurepropersetup.

Combust ion Motor Speed Control

Low draft only set point.The sma l l s t r a i gh tscrewdriverslotisplastic;therefore, the unit canbe adjusted while inoperation.

Iftheunitisnotadjustedproperly,itdoesnotcauseasafetyconcern.Iftheunitisadjustedtoohigh,onlyefficiencyislost.Iftheunitisadjustedtoolow,thelowdraftpressureswitchwillnotallowthefeedmotorortheignitertooperate.Asimpledrafttestshouldbeperformedaftercompletingthefluepipeinstallation.Torecordtheresultsforfuturereference:1. Plugunitintoa120VAC,60HZoutlet.2. Closethehopperlid,frontviewdoor,andtheashpan.

Neitherpelletsorafirearerequiredforthistest.3. Withthemodeselectorinthe“OFF”position,turnthefeed

adjusterto“TEST”.4. Record the high draft_____inW.C. (Normal is -.50 to

-.60)ThecontrolwillbeontheHighDraftforatotalof2minutes.

5. After1minute,thecombustionmotorwillgodowntolowdraft and thedistributionblowerwill goonhigh.Allowapproximately 15 seconds to pass for the combustionmotortoslowbeforecheckingthelowdraft.

6. Ifthelowdraftisbetween-.35and-.45,recordthereading_____ inW.C. If the reading is higher, slowly turn thesetscrewcounter-clockwiseuntilthedraftlowers.Ifthereadingislower,veryslowlyturnthesetscrewclockwiseuntilthedraftincreases.

NOTE: In some cases, the draft may not go as low as -.35 to -.45 even with the set screw completely counter-clockwise. Ideally, you should just set it as low as possible.

The rear panel will need to be removed prior to installing the draft meter to the barbed tee. Be sure to hold the barbed tee while removing the plug cover. Replace plug cover after draft test.
