1 Assembly and startup of the Star Vario / Star Control lubricator

INFORMATION• For information on electrical installation, maintenance, technical data, trouble-

shooting, waste disposal etc., refer to the manufacturer documentation by thecompany Perma.

• Observe the chapters "Safety notes" and "Installation and startup" in the corre-sponding operating instructions for CMS electric cylinders.

• Components may be subject to mechanical loads. Safeguard the customer struc-ture before removing the electric cylinder.

• Before you begin working on the unit, disconnect the electric cylinder and thebrake from the power supply. Safeguard the electric cylinder against unintentionalrestart.

• Use only genuine spare parts in accordance with the valid spare parts list.

• The factory setting of the lubricators cannot be changed as this is the setting thatmatches the requirements of the electric cylinders.

• Remove the closing plug [10] from the motorhousing.

• Mount the adapter plate [8] to the motor housingusing 2 countersunk screws [9]. The tighteningtorque must be 11 Nm.

• Mount the clamp [2] to the adapter plate [8] using4 M6 pan head screws [5]. The tightening torquemust be 3 Nm.

• Remove the grease nipple [6] from the attachedthreaded elbow joint [3] and remove the closingplug from the lubricator.

• Insert the battery pack. To do so, press the bat-tery pack downwards until you hear a clickingsound.

• Screw the lubricant cartridge into the lubricator.

• Place the lubricator [1] into the clamp and threadthe lubricator into the threaded elbow joint [3].Carefully tighten the lubricator finger-tight.

• Close the clamp by locking the top clamp arm intoplace.

1.3 Retrofitting the lubricatorFor retrofitting a lubricator, use the threaded elbow joint [3] as shown in the figure be-low (SEW part number 13333178).The threaded elbow joint is not included in the assembly kit and must be or-dered from SEW‑EURODRIVE separately.

Trapped air in the lubrication system

INFORMATIONAir trapped in the lubrication system can lead to an inadequate supply of lubricant tothe spindles. The system must be vented according to the steps described below.

• Mount the threaded elbow angle [3] and tighten itfinger-tight.

• Screw in the grease nipple [6].

• Open the screw plug [7] and remove it.

• Press grease into the threaded elbow joint [3] un-til the grease escapes from the screw plug bore[7] without bubbles.

• Turn the screw plug [7] back in and tighten it.• For more information on assembly, see the as-

sembly procedure.

1.4 Starting up the lubricator

INFORMATION• The factory setting of the lubricators cannot be changed as this is the setting that

matches the requirements of the electric cylinders.

1.4.1 Star VarioThe STAR Vario drive is set to a dispensing time of 12 months and an LC unit of60 cm3. This mode is sufficient for common applications and cannot be changed.

Activating the lubricator

When the electric cylinder is started up, the Star Vario lubricator must be activated.To do so, proceed as follows:

ü The symbol appears on the display.

1. Keep the SET key pressed for longer than 1 second.

ð The LED lights up green and the symbol appears on the display. This meansthe lubricator is now activated with the factory setting of SEW-EURODRIVE.

Deactivating the lubricator

To deactivate the lubricator, proceed as follows:

ü The lubricator is activated and the symbol appears on the display.

1. Keep the SET key pressed for longer than 1 second.

ð The symbol appears on the display. The lubricator is now deactivated.

1.4.2 Star Control Time (ST)The STAR Control drive in TIME mode is set to a dispensing quantity of 0.6 cm3 per100 h and an LC unit of 60 cm3. The mode cannot be changed.If the connection cable is connected and a voltage is applied, an icon appears on thefunction indicator.
