Installation Basics

Below is the basic principle of how the Netthings energy monitor should be installed.

No cables are

needed between the

controller and the

display, they

communicate with

their own Wi-Fi

Tools required

Drill

Pliers

Sprit level

Pencil

Drywall Pad saw

Screwdrivers (slotted and pozidrive)

Bootlace ferrules crimping tool

Multifunction test meter

This product communicates with Wi-Fi frequencies, the signal from the Energy Manager should reach the display within modern houses but solid walls and obstructions can affect this. To ensure best performance of the system please check signal strength before selecting final installation position to optimise the system performance. Additional equipment may be needed to connect to other manufacturer’s products. Please contact NetThings if in doubt.

Installation Tips

1. Run all power and pulse cables during first fix.

2. Mount the Netthings controller on a double electrical box as it

aids with cable connections

3. Mount the display on a recessed double electrical box as there is

a power supply to be fitted inside this for the display.

4. Mark your cables as it will aid in fault finding and commissioning.

5. Recommended, any heat meters fitted should have a pulse value

of less than 1 pulse per Kwh of energy consumed.

1. Do not use phone or cat 5 cables as pulse cables as they don’t

transmit the pulses sufficiently

2. Do not position the display out of Wi-Fi range from the controller.

3. Do not install the product unless you fully understand its setup and

operation, if in doubt ASK.

Fill in the details as previously noted during the final connection stage of installation

for the NAME, TYPE & PULSE VALUE for each of the connected channels.

Repeat for all channels that are being used to monitor energy usage.

Don’t forget to turn ‘ON’ the connected channels and save your settings.

Once all channels have been verified as fully operational then the Configuration /

Verification banner should be switched off. To do this, enter into the OVERVIEW

section of the setup menu.

When you are happy that the setup is correct and

manual to identify

your problem.

At this stage your set up is complete and the energy

manager will operate and record the energy data from the

connected energy sources, verify system operation by

consuming energy and checking that the channels are

recording correctly on the home display.

This page gives you an overview of all your settings

and also has an ‘Activate Configuration’ at

the bottom of the screen.

This is a typical screen for the channel setup
