Thekeys(10)WXRandTERRontherealplaneareontheselectorsline,butontheOpencockpitsEFISarechangedfortheCTRandTFC,dueamechanicalandfunctionalcase.
So,theCTRandTFCkeys,thatinrealwillbeinstalledovertheRANGEandMODEknobs,hasarealfunction,butincasethatthecustomerwantchangeit,Opencockpitsalwaysincludesthosekeysintheirorders.
HARDWAREINSTALLATION
Thehardwarecomescompletelyassembled,allyouhavetodo isconnectittothecomputerandpowersupplytooperatethebacklightmodule.
Intheback,itthereisanoutputforanUSBcable,andajacktypeconnector3.5mmindiameter.
TheUSBcablewillconnecteitherdirectlyorthroughaHUBtoanUSBportinthecomputer,thepowerfromtheUSBportwillsuffice.
Tofeedthebacklightanypowersourcecanbeusedtoprovideuswith5Vandanamperageof500mA,takingintoaccountthatthepositive(+)shouldbeatthetip.OpencockpitsshopcanprovideanspecificpowersourceforEFIS.
MODULECHECK
UsetheEFIS_checkapplication,includedinthezipdownloadandalsointhesametab"Downloads"onthepageoftheEFISpurchase.
SOFTWAREINSTALLATION
Like other Opencockpits modules and because of the number of different addons that are offered for FlightSimulator,itisimpossibleforOpencockpitstoprovidecoverageforall,becausethesoftwareisalwaysdevelopedbythirdpartiesandOpencockpitshasnolinkswiththem.
Nevertheless,Opencockpitshasmadeaneffortintryingtointegrateitshardwarewithalltheseexternalpackages,althoughsometimesithasbeenverydifficulttodosowithcertainproducts.

ThebasicmanagementsoftwareoftheOpencockpitsEFISisreadyfortheFSXdefaultEFIS,whileitsmanagementisnotthesameasintherealplane.
INSTALLATIONOFTHEFSUIPCANDIOCPSERVERPROTOCOLS
WemusttohaveinstalledsomekindofprotocoltocommunicatewiththeSimulator,presentlythereareafew,themostsuitablebeingtheFSUIPCandtheIOCPserver,whileitisnotrequiredtoinstallboth,itissomehowconvenient,becauseofthediversificationoftheaddons.
ForourscriptforthedefaultEFISinFSXandbecauseFSUIPCdoesnothaveaccesstosomeoffsets,wehavedecidedtouseIOCPServer,thefreeprotocolcreatedbyJuanraAscanio,tomanagetheEFISunderFSX.
Forotheraddonsandbecausetheirdevelopershavesodecided,themostusualwillbetouseFSUIPC,thepaywareprotocolcreatedbyPeterDowson.
To install IOCPServerforFSX,wemustenterhissitewww.iocpserver.netanddownloadtheprotocolfromthe linkIOCPServerparaFSX,onceinstalledwemusteditthefiledll.xml,asindicatedinhispage.
Therealso isathttp://www.iocpserver.net/downloads/otros/IOCPServer&Efis_Fsx.pdfaguideorchecklistcreatedbyFernandoBrea,fortheperfectconfigurationoftheprotocol.
Oncetheprotocolsinstalled,wecanproceedtotheinstallationoftheSIOCsoftwareitself.
INSTALLATIONOFTHESIOCSOFTWARE
The firstpartof this installationshouldbedonebydownloading the"OPENCOCKPITSEFISB737.zip" file from thesellingpageoftheEFISinoursitewww.opencockpits.com.
Unzipthefileineasytofindlocation(i.e.C:\);itwillcreateafoldercalledOPENCOCKPITSEFISB737.Inside,youwillfindthefilesfurtherdetailed.
Amongothers,therearethreelogicalwaystoconfigurethesoftwaretorunonourEFIS:
- Buildorownconfigurationcreatingourownscript- UsingthefilesalreadyconfiguredbyOpencockpits- UsingtheOpencockpitsAutoConfigurator
OUROWNCONFIGURATION
Todothiswecreateourownscript,eitherusingtheconfig_sioc.exeorusinganytexteditorandwritingthescriptaswewoulddowithanyotherprogramminglanguage,andfinallycompiledin.ssiandrunwithsioc.exe.
Noneed tobeanadvanceduseras the toolsand themanyexamplesof thescript thatexist indifferent forums,includingOpencockpits, does notmake building our own script very difficult, in any casewe describe two easymethodstocarryoutthistask.

Then simply run the application sioc_efis.exe,which is in the folder EFIS and thiswillmakeour EFIS tobe fullyoperationalforthechosensoftware.
NOTE:Onceyourunthisapplication, inthefoldercalledscriptsanewcompiledfile withthe.ssiextensionwillbecreated, this isnormalbecause sioc reallyworkswith compiled files,even ifweareusing text (.txt) files for thisconfiguration.

Theonly special requirement,andonlybecauseof the idiosyncrasiesofPMDG'sown software,wemust set theconfigurationofthekeystrokesinFlightSimulator>PMDG>Keyboardcommands,asindicatedintheannexattheendofthisdocument.
THEAUTOCONFIGURATORFROMOPENCOCKPITS
Wehaveincludedtheapplicationinthesamezip,inafoldercalledSSETUP.
Itmustbeunzipped insidethesamefolderwheretheapplicationsioc.exe is, leavingthefoldersomething likethefollowingimage(inthisimageallunnecessaryfilesweredeleted),butnotnecessarilythesameyoucanseeonyourcomputer:
Where you can see that a new icon called ssetup.exe has been created and a folder called ssetup_files,whichcontainsallthefilesfortheMCPandautoEFIS.

Inthislistthedifferentoptionsareshown.Wesimplychoosethemostsuitableforusortheoneweneedtouseatthistime,andthenclickonthebuttontolaunch(2)andourEFISshouldworkandshowappropriateinformationinaccordancewiththesoftwarethathasbeenpreviouslychosen.
USINGTWOINDEPENDENTEFISMODULES(CPT&F/O)
Atthispoint,andassumingthatwehaveafullyoperationalmodule,wemayposethefollowingquestions:HowcanweusetwodifferentEFISindependentlyinitsmanagementofdata?
Theansweriseasy,butmaynotbesatisfactoryforeverybody,becauseofthelimitationsofthesoftwareinitselfwecanonlyraisethisinanumberofaddons,i.e.,PMDGhasnooptionFOR2EFISandalsonotinFSX.
Todothis,wemustfirstruntheEFISTEST.exe,withonlyonemoduleconnectedandgetthefollowingscreen:

Lookingatthewhiteboxatthetopright,ittellsusthattheDevicenumberbelongstoourmodule,inthecaseoftheimageitisnumber4,notethisissueandproceedtodothesamewiththeothermodule.YoumustnotconnectbothinthesameUSBport,eachofthemmustbeconnectedtotheportwhereitwillfinallystay.
OncewehavenotedthesetwoDevicesnumbers,openthesioc.inifile(thesamewherewechangedthetextfile)andlookfortheline:
