Emergency Lighting (Testing and Maintenance)

Electrical Load Monitoring is essential in order to quickly identify if there are any voltage, frequency or loading anomalies present in electrical installations distribution systems. The survey will also identify uneven load present on 3 phase systems so that these can be corrected and a balanced supply restored and safety maintained.

It is recommended that you perform a fire extinguisher test annually to ensure the pressure gauges, seals and condition are overall in good shape in the event of an emergency.

We can also provide monthly visual inspections and in the event of an issue, fire extinguisher servicing.

Emergency lighting is used for emergency situations when the primary power supply fails and normal illumination is no longer available. This can lead to sudden darkness and is a possible danger to staff and customers. The function of emergency lighting is to enable work continuity or the safe evacuation of staff members and/or the public. In order to make sure that they are fully functioning at all times, Emergency Lighting systems need to be correctly tested, maintained and serviced, and in fact this is a legal requirement.

At Electrical Test Midlands we provide a full service for Emergency Lighting systems, from the original design and installation to annual inspection, testing and full certification. We utilise a team of professionally qualified and experienced engineers to test emergency lighting and we recommend that this is carried out every 12 months in order to comply with the specifications of your insurance as well as the law.

We also offer both standard and bespoke log books that include easy to follow instructions. This will make it quick and easy for one of your staff members to perform monthly checks of your Emergency Lighting system.

Among the special inspection and testing procedures that we offer are luminaire duration testing, complete cleaning of diffusers, checks to ensure the functionality of all batteries, the supply of test results and log books if desired and expert advice on any improvements that need to be made in order to meet the current standards.

Comprehensive a complete maintenance of your emergency lighting system ensures that your building will be well lit at all times. This is essential not only to prevent crime, but also in the case of emergency evacuation from the building for any reason.

Fire Alarms Fire Risk AssessmentThe installation and maintenance of fire alarms is another of the many services that Electrical Test Midlands provide, at competitive rates, around the UK, from our office in Cannock.

If you own and manage commercial premises, including houses of multiple occupation (HMOs), you are obliged by law (in England and Wales this is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) to have a fire risk assessment in place, which may point you towards having a fire alarm system installed in order to mitigate risk. Many insurance companies, in fact, require it as a pre-requisite for cover under many policies. Even then, if you have any large building, including domestic, a fire alarm system makes good sense. It is in the nature of accidents, that they often happen when least expected. Early warning, from a good fire alarm, allows occupants the time to get out faster, alert the emergency services, and protect both people and property.

Fire Alarm MaintenanceInstalling a fire alarm is only the first step. Like any electrical installation, it needs to be regularly serviced and maintained to remain safe and effective. Our electrical engineers will thoroughly inspect your system and give you appropriate, expert advice. We follow procedures laid out in British Standards BS 5839 and BS 5266, so that you can be sure that your fire alarm system is fully compliant and in full working order. This includes testing and service of fire alarm control panels, sounders and bells, call points, smoke detectors, automatic fire detectors, emergency lighting and signage.

As of the 1st October 2006, it is required by law that any non domestic premises take out a regular fire risk assessment. If your business has 5 or more people, you must also keep a written record of your assessments.

As professionals we recommend that a test of your lightning protection system is carried out every 11 months. By doing so over a twelve year period it will guarantee that your defence system has been monitored under all seasonal conditions.

Thermal Imaging PAT TestingReducing the risk of electrical accidentsAll portable electrical appliances should be tested to make sure they are safe to use along with evidence that you have carried out the necessary regular tests to meet your health and safety requirements.

Our qualified team of engineers perform all the necessary tests with minimum disruption in your working environment and compile reports that are made readily available. Supported by a proactive and responsive team, we work with our clients to quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively deliver an overall personal level of service by specialists in PAT testing.

Using thermal imaging, our engineers can accurately identify existing faults with an electrical installation, as well as predict potential future issues that could save lives.

By detecting anomalies often invisible to the naked eye, thermography allows corrective action to be taken before costly system failures occur. Thermal Imaging or Thermography is the process of using a special camera designed to look only for heat by way of infra red (IR) energy waves. Potential problems can often be found due to excess heat being released by an electrical system, even those which would normally produce some heat when performing at their optimum level.

If undetected these problems can lead to failure and can result in expensive production loss or downtime and, in the most extreme case, can lead to fire. A regular programme of thermal imaging as part of routine maintenance can highlight potential problems long before any event. As a result any required repairs can be planned for in terms of both time and budget. In short, it is an invaluable resource for predictive maintenance. Thermography has applications in many different areas which are listed below.
