Summer_fun [suhm-er fuhn] A period of hot, usually sunny weather_something that provides amusement. Yep, that sums up our summer so far!! It’s been really hot and sunny and having needle-work nearby always provides hours of enjoy-ment. There are so many great new de-signs out there to celebrate the warm weather. Also, many fun project ideas. Take for instance, JabCo’s new-est pincushion. Roll up some wool, tuck it into a cute miniature pail, stick

in some JabCo pins and you have a use-ful stitching acces-sory that will re-mind you of family times at the beach.

Another sum-mertime fa-vorite for many peo-ple are Sun-flowers. The tall, proud stalks are simple reminders of lazy days and roasting the seeds extends

the pleasure. Country Cottage Needleworks has

just released “Sunflowers In Summer” for a breezy, quick stitch.

No matter what your plans en-tail this summer, you will find many fun pro-jects to enjoy for

a free few hours some

afternoon or evening. We hope you will have a friend-filled slice of sum-mer, whether you spend it at home or enjoy a few days out of town. It’s a short season and one we look forward to all year. Make the most of it while it’s still around.

Baltimore Needlework Market

Baltimore? Yes! Formerly

St. Charles, MO and for-

merly held in September,

the Baltimore location is a

new venue for the counted

thread designers.

Since it‟s not within a rea-

sonable driving distance, we

will be flying into Baltimore

this week to attend the Fall

Needlework event. Starting

slow but quickly building

momentum, this market is

beginning to look like a

great, new location! Many

designers will be attending

and we hope to bring home

wonderful samplers, fabrics,

threads and gadgets.

If you have

seen some-

thing as a preview from

Market and would like to

pre-order, please let us

know!

Join us August 16 at the

shop from noon to 9pm for

the Market review.

ples of twenty-four schoolgirl‟s

needlework, spanning the years

1710 through 1841, are included

in the book. Figures stroll-

ing through gardens, bas-

kets of flowers, huge blos-

soms, houses...all these

and more are depicted.

These are lovely works of art

skillfully stitched by

young girls. What a trib-

ute to the hard work and dedica-

tion of these students.

Blackbird Designs will do-

nate half the profits from the

sale of these books to the

Spencer Museum.

To pre-order your book to-

day, email or call Cathy at

the shop!

Barb and Alma of Black-

bird Designs will be re-

leasing a labor of love at

the upcoming Baltimore

Needlework market. Ti-

tled “A Schoolgirl‟s

Work”, this 104 page

book includes 11 projects

inspired by the historical

samplers of the Spencer

Museum of Art. Exam-

Now at the shop through

early September is a trunk

show of samplers and

smalls from Milady‟s Nee-

dle. Not familiar with Mi-

lady‟s Needle? One look at

the model line-up and you

will want to be! There are

many wonderful

samplers, both

adaptation and

original. Pictured

to the right is

“Winter Is Past”,

an ode to the

flowers and birds

that come with

the warmer

weather.

Quaker Pincushions are

quick-to-stitch elegant

designs that can be

swiftly finished by stuff-

ing lightly and popping

into a wooden pincushion

base.

Adam & Eve fans will love

the small treasure box

which keeps a tiny pair of

scissors and a needle

minder handy.

Christmas gift giving is

made so simple with Yule-

tide Hornbooks. Stitched

with one color floss

or silk on a linen

ground, then

mounted on a

small, wooden

hornbook, this

makes a special

gift for yourself or a friend.

There are many other lovely

models; needle books, scissor

fobs, ruler cases and Christ-

mas ornaments on display in

the shop. Take a few mo-

ments to stop by and see the

elegant designs. They are

truly a source of inspira-

tion!

fect on September 2, 2011,

with the exception of 40

count linen. The linen

increase will be effective

immediately.

The folks at

Weeks Dye Works

do not take these price in-

Affected with price fluctuations

just like other suppliers, Weeks

Dye Works has absorbed price

increases on their end for the last

13 years. However, the time has

come for Weeks to pass along

new pricing for 6-strand embroi-

dery floss and their over-dyed

linens. The increase goes into ef-

creases lightly and have done eve-

rything they could over the years

to keep prices stable.

We join them in their hopes

that you will understand the

decision. Should you have

questions, please feel free to

ask Cathy at the shop.
