LIGHTING AND AUTOMATIONNo home theatre is complete without some simple automation and lighting to set the scene. Imagine this – you have just bought a Blu-ray copy of ‘Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens’ (great fi lm by the way)! You walk into your theatre feeling giddy with antici-pation, you place the Blu-ray into the player and then press ONE button. The lights dim, featured LED strips illuminate, creating a stunning visual eff ect. The projector starts, the AV Receiver is switched to the correct input, and then the movie begins! And, all you did was press ONE button…

NO BLACK BARS!Planning a home cinema, your fi rst thought should switch to the screen. For that true cinema experience nothing can compare to the Cinema-Scope ultra-widescreen experience.

CinemaScope was developed in the 50’s and whilst its name is somewhat lost today the aspect ratio lives on and thrives. In fact, Panavision, who are a major camera and lens manu-facturer, made its start in the industry producing the anamorphic lens that originally made the fi rst versions of widescreen possible.

So what are these black bars I get when watching a Blu-ray?

The regular fl at screen TV today has an aspect ratio of 16:9 whilst the majority of fi lms are produced in a ratio of 2.40:1. When you play these fi lms back on your regular fl at screen you’ll note the image sits in the middle of the screen with black bars top and bottom. At Entertaining Environments, we take the fi lm industry standard and using Anamorphic technology we stretch that image to fi t perfectly to your 2.40:1 ultra-widescreen. The black bars are gone.

Conversely the same screen can also cater for your regular widescreen viewing – think sport, pay and regular TV. The diff erence is whilst the height remains the same, the width is reduced. It’s an important consideration that based on your use of your cinema will determine the screen ratio, the projector and optics we use.

NOW, THIS IoT MAY NOT SOUND all that exciting in itself, but as a greater number of household devices become part of the IoT, wondrous events can occur, and convergence is attained between entertainment and auto-mation. The events can be as simple as switching on the climate control as you are leaving work, or triggering the garage door once the system detects you are down the street.
