Tensile StructuresClassroom project 3 weeks
individual project01
The properties of tensile membranes were explored by stretching a nylon cloth over the varying forms derived from a geometric grid. Dierent patterns were projected on the membrane to understand and capture the visually interesting surfaces and spaces formed within.

Zodiac Convention Centre
The zodiac convention centre is an interactive space for people to know more about their zodiac signs and therefore connect with themselves on a much deeper level. It also provides a platform for social interaction where compatible people can come together and connect thereby, creating new relationships. The structure comprises of 12 modules where each one represents a zodiac sign and comprises of various personalized experiences.

The tensile structure consists of the load bearing members (metal supports) that establish the boundary points and the anticlastic surface (nylon fabric) that ts within these boundaries. The anticlastic tensile membrane acts like a shelter for the convetion cente. The membrane looks aesthetically pleasing and is spread over a large area which makes it versatile and gives ‘freedom of design’.

The aim of the project was to study the life cycle of an element from nature and translate its attributes into forms that could furthur be used for problem solving and to create more intelligent and sustainable design solutions through the emulation of nature.

Final Form (3D)Form Manipulation (2D to 3D)
The 3D form is derived out of a sphere based on the attribute ‘enclosed’. The 2d motif was looked at as the ‘elevation’ for the 3d form. The reections of the form in the mirror highlight the dierent visually interesting surfaces that have been developed.

Insiya Pithawala: Retail and Exhibition Display Design
The unit was designed as an attempt to highlight the new arrival books by dedicating an exclusive space for the same as it it one of the most important and most selling section of a book store. The material constraint given was Mdf and the requirement was that is should accomodate a minimum of 3 kilograms of weight. Dierent combinations of joineries were explored keeping in mind the compression and tension acting on it at all given times.

Prototype
A combination of two modules have been used that can be changed as per the store layout. Each unit accomodates two new arrivals where one face of the unit is used for display of the cover while the copies of each are stacked on the side where they can be accessed by the customer. The varied angles of the geometric unit facilitates eortless viewing of each novel.

‘FQ’ - About The Brand
Insiya Pithawala: Retail and Exhibition FQ - By Tanishq
Current Kiosk
FQ belongs to the house of Tanishq, a prominent jewellery brand of India, a company promoted by the Tata Group. ‘FQ’ stands for fashion quotient but in this case it sounds like ‘fuck you’ a common slang used by teenagers. The brand aims at creating a niche market for teen jewellery. The whole idea was to introduce teens to authentic jewellery buying at an early age.

‘FQ’ - New Concept
Insiya Pithawala: Retail and Exhibition FQ - By Tanishq
The way jewellery is percieved has changed over the years. Teenagers think of jewellery as more of a fashion accessory than a status symbol. They wear jewellery to enhace their beauty and not to showcase their wealth. So i have tried to create a space that the teens would rely on to buy their rst diamond accessory.

The ‘D Lane’ Project
The exhibition showcases the life of the people residing in the ‘d lane’. The exhibition was a platform to bring forward the stories that are buried under the impact of urbanisation. As India is galloping towards higher economic growth, its cities and people struggle to keep up, it is perhaps only right that we take some time out and acknowledge the diverse culture and people around us.
The D Lane Project was featured in local as well as other indian newspapers like ‘Pune Newsline’ and ‘DNA’.
