The Fiscal Times (TFT) is a digital news and opinion publication devoted to quality reporting on U.S. policy

initiatives, business issues, global economic conditions and consumer trends. In the 2½ years since our official launch in March 2011, TFT has become one of the most trusted online publications on fiscal policy and its effects on the country at

large.

The Fiscal Times is an editorially independent enterprise, founded and owned by financier and philanthropist Peter G. Peterson. Clear-headed and pragmatic, TFT is written, edited and produced by experienced professional journalists. Jacqueline Leo - Editor in ChiefJacqueline Leo is Editor in Chief of The Fiscal Times, a fast-growing digital news, opinion and media publication devoted to quality reporting on economic policy, business and consumer issues. Ms. Leo has worked in a variety of media and has held numerous leadership positions in editorial and marketing. She was Director of Digital Operations at the Meredith Corporation; Editorial Director of Women’s Magazines at The New York Times; and Editorial Director of ABC News’ “Good Morning America.” From 2001 through November 2007, Ms. Leo was Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Reader’s Digest, the largest paid circulation magazine in the U.S. with a readership of 38 million. Prior to that, she was Director of Editorial Operations at Consumer Reports. Her latest book, SEVEN: The Number for Happiness, Love and Success, was published in December 2009 by a division of Hachette.

Ms. Leo is a former President of the American Society of Magazine Editors and a three-time nominee for

a National Magazine Award. Under her leadership, an article on toxic waste dumping won the 1990 National Magazine Award for Public Interest. A Matrix Award Winner from NY Women in Communications, she served on the Board of Governors of the New York Academy of Sciences for ten years and in 2011 was named to Media Industry Newsletter’s Editorial Hall of Fame. Leo is listed in Who’s Who in America.

Eric Pianin - Washington EditorEric Pianin is a veteran journalist and federal budget expert who has served as D.C. Bureau Chief for The Fiscal Times since its launch, managing the team’s political coverage, congressional budget and tax issue coverage, and more. He spent over 25 years as an editor and reporter at The Washington Post, covering the federal budget, D.C. government, environmental policy, homeland security and politics. He also served as The Post’s domestic policy editor and congressional editor and worked on its website for two years. A native of Detroit, Pianin graduated from Michigan State University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and worked for The Louisville Times, The Minneapolis Star and The Minneapolis Tribune’s Washington bureau early on in his career. He also covered the health care reform debate in Congress for the Kaiser Health News website.

Maureen Mackey - Managing Editor

Maureen Mackey, The Fiscal Times’ managing editor, oversees scheduling and work flow as well as editing, writing and reporting on analyses, features, and news. She manages partner content and handles book scouting and excerpts. She has over 20 years of editorial experience, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, AARP, and elsewhere. She has edited numerous nonfiction books, including political biography, history and memoir, and was a co-editor of Everyday Greatness: Inspiration for a Meaningful Life by Stephen R. Covey (2006). She is a graduate of Fordham University.

Yuval Rosenberg - Executive Editor Based in New York City, Yuval Rosenberg is the Business and Economy editor for The Fiscal Times, directing coverage across all major industry sectors, with a focus on the economy, technology and Wall Street. He draws on his extensive experience in digital media, having previously worked as an editor for the websites of WNYC, Fortune and Newsweek. His writing has appeared in numerous print and online publications, including CNBC.com, CNNMoney, Fast Company, Fortune, Money, Newsweek, TheWeek.com and Time. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

Josh Boak - Deputy Bureau Chief, Washington Office

As the Washington office’s Deputy Bureau Chief, Josh Boak covers the economy, the Federal Reserve, and Capitol Hill politics. Previously, he worked on the staffs of POLITICO, The Chicago Tribune, and The Toledo Blade. Educated at Princeton and Columbia Universities, Boak received the Livingston Award for a series about the Ohio economy and was also a Pulitzer finalist for his articles about troubling investments made by that state’s government. He also worked as a researcher and reporter on investigative journalist Bob Woodward’s book, Obama’s Wars (2010), and spent time freezing in the Afghan desert for The Washington Post.

David Francis - National Correspondent

As national correspondent for The Fiscal Times based in D.C., David Francis covers the defense industry, national security and other political issues. He has written for The Christian Science Monitor, Financial Times Deutschland, and Deutsche Welle, and contributed to World Politics Review, SportsIllustrated.com, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, among others. He’s reported from around the globe on topics ranging from transatlantic relations to border security. Francis has lectured at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies, and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and a master’s from Georgetown University.

Beth Braverman - Senior Editor, Life and Money

Based in New York City, Beth Braverman is the Life and Money editor for The Fiscal Times, covering the key financial issues that affect consumers at work and at home. A former senior reporter and social media editor for MONEY magazine, she also worked as a daily newspaper reporter and trade magazine editor. She holds a bachelor’s degree in newspaper journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and a master’s in business and economics reporting from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University.

Brianna Ehley - Washington Bureau News Assistant

Based in Washington, D.C., Brianna Ehley covers tax and economic policy, government agencies and Congress for The Fiscal Times. She compiles the site’s daily Debt and Taxes blog and handles reporting and research. Her writing has appeared in The St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Reuters.

To deliver deep analysis of and commentary on the major issues confronting America. That includes the federal budget, the deficit, tax reform (both individual and corporate), Medicare, Social Security, and any other crucial topics that will be front and center in Election 2012.

To produce smart, often counterintuitive political stories and opinion pieces (both from the Right and the Left) that inform and provoke readers as they consider candidates for national office. TFT, for example, did one of the first major stories questioning Governor Rick Perry’s record of job creation in Texas.

Lifestyle, education, social trends, and service pieces are the mainstays of the L+M Channel. The channel has a special focus on jobs, real estate and money management.

A typical week might include stories that resonate with and inform corporate managers, such as “Gen Y vs. Boomers: Workplace Conflict Heats Up”; a service story for holiday shoppers such as “Black Friday 2011: 3 Reasons to Stay Home and Shop”; and a story with social value such as “Marriage: Couples That Save Together, Stay Together.” But the L+M Channel also has a more serious side, tackling topics such as “The New Poor: Elderly Hit Hard on Health Costs” and “Down and Out on $250,000 a Year.”

One major focus of TFT reporting is on the millennial generation — their prospects for jobs, the costs of higher education and whether or not the American Dream will still be viable as they age into adulthood.

OUR CHANNELS

The Fiscal Times brings order to the chaos of a global economy. Our job is to get behind and ahead of the top stories affecting investors, consumers, voters and taxpayers. And while both public and private pocketbook issues are a core concern, TFT coverage manages to have far more breadth and depth than just a fiscal focus. There are three primary channels:

Deep and proprietary economic analysis from columnists and TFT writers on everything from the housing crisis to Fed policy and China’s global ambitions.

Original stories that analyze events and issues of importance to Corporate America and small business. These can range from company stories, such as disarray at HP to the prospects for repatriation of overseas profits and beyond. The daily dissection of what is happening on Wall Street and in markets around the globe, plus insights and advice for investors. TFT was one of the first news outlets to recognize and report on the Occupy Wall Street movement. Technology coverage that doesn’t follow the pack. TFT has produced forward-looking stories on robotics and innovative ways to look at tech, such as a series of stories on “The iPhone Economy.”
