Camp’s website. The cost is $315.00 per child. All registrations must be sent directly to 4-H Camp
Whitewood.

Applications for camp scholarships (camperships) for Ashtabula County 4-H Camp are available online or at the
Extension Office. Applications are due May 1 to the Ashtabula County 4-H Foundation— PO Box 445 Jefferson, Ohio 44047
Youth must be registered for camp or be a camp counselor to be eligible. The number and amount of
camperships will vary depending on the need.

TSC continues their partnership and support of 4-H with the Paper Clover Campaign. This spring's dates are set for March 27-April 7. TSC store and regional management are extremely committed to partnering with 4-H on the local level to raise the visibility of our program and garner customer dona-tions that advance positive youth development. 4-H Clubs have the opportunity to enter the Paper Clover Sweepstakes: www.tractorsupply.com/4-H where 75 clubs will win a $100 TSC gift card. 4-H SCHOLARSHIPS The Ashtabula County 4-H Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior or college student that has been a member of the
Ashtabula County 4-H program for at least 5 years and has been accepted to any college or trade school regardless of subject area. Applications should be received by April 1 to the Ashtabula County 4-H Foundation at P.O. Box 445 Jefferson, Ohio 44047.
The Bloom Family Scholarship is awarded based on the applicant’s character, financial need, general ability, service to the community and
participation in 4-H activities and programs. The Bloom Family Scholarship can be used only at The Ohio State University or ATI. Applications
should be received by May 1 to the Extension Office. No late or incomplete applications will be considered. Visit the county website for details.

Cloverbud Judging
Cloverbud posters will be reviewed on Monday, August 5 in the 4-H Expo Building at the fairgrounds from 5 - 6:30 p.m. This is a fun experience that
gives Cloverbuds a chance to talk to one of our nice volunteers about everything they did this year in 4-H. Youth should bring their 715 book and a
poster with drawings, objects and pictures of their favorite 4-H activities. All Cloverbuds participating will receive a Cloverbud ribbon and fair pass.
ALL Cloverbuds are invited to participate in Games and Activities at 7:00 p.m. the same evening in the Kaszar Barn.
Cloverbud Graduation will take place at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11 in the MAC Arena.
4-H Member Reminders
Requirements: 1) All clubs establish their own schedule based on the needs of their club. Members must attend at least 50% of local club meetings to be eligible to participate in county, regional, and state events, including Ashtabula Junior Fair. Committees and individual clubs have the right to increase the required meeting attendance but may not have less. 2) All members have to have a signed Code of Conduct on file. This can be found on the reverse side of the Enrollment Form. Members are expected to adhere to the 4-H Code of Conduct at all 4-H and Junior Fair events and when
representing 4-H. 3) Members must meet all 4-H requirements to be eligible for events and end of the year awards.
Project Completion: 1) Members must meet all requirements set forth by their club(s) and county committee(s) as explained in individual project guidelines. 2) Project record books must be completed as outlined in project guidelines and signed upon completion by the 4-H Volunteer. 3) All youth are expected to complete the projects to which they have enrolled. There are NO project changes after APRIL 1. Members must complete project judging, skillathon or be home judged. 3) Members must complete Quality Assurance by June 1 if applicable. 4) Members must complete Horse Safety
& Ethics by May 1 if applicable.

Joe Bodnar Memorial Northern Classic Steer & Heifer
Show
Saturday, April 27
Ashtabula County Fairgrounds
The Ashtabula County Cattlemen’s Association will be sponsoring the 22nd Annual
Joe Bodnar Memorial Northern Classic Steer & Heifer Jackpot Show on Saturday,
April 27 at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds in Jefferson, Ohio. This good old fash-
ion jackpot show will start promptly at noon.
The show is open to all youth under the age of 21 and will begin promptly at noon. An
entry fee of $35 per head is required. A $5 discount is being given for any entry
received prior to April 19, 2019.
Cash prizes will be awarded to individual class winners and to the Champion Steer,
Reserve Champion Steer, Champion Heifer, and Reserve Champion Heifer. In
addition to the open show, a Showmanship class and an Ashtabula County Class will

Skillathon Study Materials
Beef, Dairy Beef, Goat, Horse, Poultry, Rabbit, Swine, Dogs and Sheep Learning Lab Kits and Skillathon notebooks and feeds are
available at the office for clubs to use. Call 576-9008 for a time to come in to study. It is the club’s responsibility to make sure materials are
put back in proper order with all pieces. Kits and notebooks MAY NOT be removed from the office.
Study CDs are also available and may be signed out by advisors. Members can learn more about their animal, identify body parts, breeds,
meat cuts, medical labels and animal care by using these resources.

Quality Assurance Information
All Junior Fair and 4-H youth taking marketable and/or lactating livestock projects must attend an Ohio Quality Assurance Program. Below is a list of QA dates within the
WREERA. 4-H members wishing to attend a Quality Assurance program outside of their own county MUST register with their own county. The home county 4-H staff will register each 4-H member with the desired county Quality Assurance program. Youth must be in
attendance for the entire program. Signed documentation by the Quality Assurance instructor of out-of-county attendance is the responsibility of the 4-H member as proof of
participation.

grounds. $5.00 fee for Out of County participants. There is no admittance after the first 10
minutes.

they reach the age of 15. Those

participate in 4-H/FFA. Please call

set up an appointment to take the
test. Those that do not pass the
test must attend a QA session prior
to June 1.
4-H Market Animal Project News
From the Ohio Department of Agriculture State Veterinarian, “Due to the fact there is no S. pullorum antigen available for testing, Ohio is waiving the S. pullorum testing
requirement for the 2019 fair season.
The exception to this waiver is out-of-state poultry that do not have a VS form 9-3. The VS form 9-3 signifies that the poultry are from a NPIP flock that is free of S. pullorum.
Ohio is currently S. pullorum free.”

4-H Equine Royalty
Any member of a 4-H Horse Club in
Ashtabula County ages 10-13 and 14-18
as of January 1st in good standing may
apply. Rules and Guidelines are available
online and at the OSU Extension Office.
Judging criteria include the application,
essay, interview, knowledge test and rid-
ing class. The 4-H Equine Royalty will be
announced during the Horse opening
ceremonies at fair.
Applications and essays due by July 1 to
OSU Extension. Winners receive a tiara
or belt buckle, sash, Middle Barn Stall
and a $250.00 scholarship for the Senior
Winner.

The Ashtabula County 4-H PAS Show will be SUNDAY, JUNE 16
at the COUNTY Fairgrounds. Entry fee must be paid in advance.
Make checks payable to: Ashtabula County 4-H Horse
Committee. Food will be available for purchase. Registrations are
due to the Ashtabula County Extension Office by June 1 and
forms are available online and at the OSU Extension office.
Second chance options: If you are interested in other dates please visit the website or
contact the Extension Office. Per Ohio 4-H rules, youth must have a prior approval from
the County Office to go to any other County 4-H PAS Show.
4-H Equine Project News
Required Parent/Advisor Horse Meetings
At least one parent/guardian of each equine member and all horse advisors
must attend one of the following meetings at the 4-H Expo Building. :
April 15 6:30 p.m.
April 28 4:00 p.m.
Equine Clinics will be offered for all youth
this spring and summer sponsored by the
4-H Equine Committee and Horse
Boosters. All Equine youth are
encouraged to participate in Fun Shows
sponsored by the Boosters.
All first year equine (large and small)
members must complete and submit
proof of Safety & Ethics Training by
May 1 to OSU Extension.
Approved materials may be reviewed
as a club or individually. A group
session will be offered April 15 @ 6:30
p.m. at the Expo Building. Please call
the office to pre-register.
Horse Registration
Horse registration papers must be in the
Extension Office by June 1.
ABSOLUTELY no project animal
changes will be accepted after June 15,
unless approved by the 4-H Equine
Committee.

Pen Reservations
All animals going to fair MUST have a Pen Reservation. All Advisors must hand in complete Pen Reservations by JULY 1! NO LATE OR INCOMPLETE FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
All market goats & lambs must be de-horned and officially identified for Scrapie by tagging day on Saturday, May 4. If there is no Scrapie tag, you must present proof of Scrapie ID before a Pen Reservation will be accepted.

Carcass Projects
ENTRY FORMS ARE DUE JULY 1
To participate in the carcass show youth MUST have an entry form submitted, a
completed and signed project book, cut list, kill charge and completed Drug Use
Notification Form at time of drop-off. Forms are available online and at OSU
Extension and updated project requirements are included in the MAC
Guidelines.
All members taking a carcass project that do not complete Skillathon and car-
cass evaluation will be in-eligible for Grand and Reserve Project Exhibitor.
Grand & Reserve Champion Project Exhibitor criteria: Carcass Evaluation: 20%,
Skill-a-Thon: 20%. & Carcass Animal 60 %. Carcass Evaluation Score will in-
clude the evaluation/judging of meat cuts. Questions may be directed to Duane

Fairgrounds Beautification Contest
The Ashtabula County Fair Board Auxiliary will again sponsor its beautification contest. To reserve a location and get details on rules and
prizes, contact Sara Johnson at 440-813-7849. This is your chance to help make the grounds beautiful!!!

Jr. Teams (Youth ages 5-18) – total age of participants must
add up to 50 or less & Sr. Teams (ages 19+) – total age of
participants must add up to 51 or more
Each team must be comprised of four (4) members. Entry fee
of $5.00 per team due by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7.
First, second and third place will be awarded.
Royal Court Applications
Forms are available online and at the

on July 1. Interviews will be on
Monday, July 8. Youth MUST schedule an interview
time in advance via Doodle.
