Jefferson alumnus gives back San Antonio ISD community
When Ricardo Rosales attended Jefferson High School a mere decade ago, he didn’t realize the huge impact education could make in his life. Now, nine years later, with a college degree and three jobs on two continents on his resume, Rosales realized that he had missed out on educational opportunities in high school because he wasn’t aware of the tools available outside of Jefferson. To help give students an educational upper hand that he didn’t have, Rosales and his partner Sravya Vishnubhatla launched a free, online SAT/ACT prep course that not only serves as a guide for standardized testing, but also connects students across the city and the country.

A graduation season for the history booksIt’s been more than 100 years since San Antonio school buildings closed in the face of a pandemic. The Spanish Flu prompted the San Antonio Board of Health to vote to close all schools and ban all public gatherings on Oct. 16, 1918. Fast forward to March 13, 2020, and students throughout San Antonio heard a similar message about a new coronavirus spreading across the globe and which was just beginning to affect their city.

SAISD Board approves new 2020-2021 instructional calendar
Earlier this week, the San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees approved a revised 2020-2021 instructional calendar, which includes 15 additional days as a contingency for COVID-19 outbreaks. The modifications in the newly approved calendar include a week of intersession immediately before or after the originally scheduled Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring breaks.

Green named first-ever head football coach at Young Men’s Leadership AcademyTony Green has been named the first head football coach at the Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Wheatley. The YMLA Lions will field its first-ever high school varsity football team this fall. Green was promoted from athletic coordinator, a position he has held at YMLA since the school opened five years ago.
