UCLA GAME DAY: NCAA RULES REMINDERS

September is an exciting month with the start of football season under new head coach Chip Kelly. We look forward to UCLA fans heading out to the Rose Bowl and cheering on our Bruins all season long. Here are a few important NCAA rules reminders for game day that apply to our fans and supporters:

You may NOT provide the following to current UCLA student-athletes or their family:

• Complimentary or discounted tickets to the game. • Transportation to or from the Rose Bowl. • Food, beverages or gifts before, during or after the game. • Invitation to sit with you in your seats during the game. • Invitation to a Rose Bowl hospitality suite or tent.

The above are considered impermissible extra benefits under NCAA rules.

The prohibitions above also apply to prospective student-athletes (“prospects”). A prospect is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade. The one excep-tion is if a booster or his/her family has a pre-existing relationship with a prospect that did not originate in athletics. Under that scenario, a prospect who is a long-time family friend and has come to games previously can continue to do in the same manner, but no recruiting conversations can take place.

NCAA rules forbid boosters from making contact with a prospect and his/her family to encourage them to attend UCLA. At the Rose Bowl or elsewhere, refrain from approaching or contacting prospects, and as always, please leave recruiting to the UCLA coaches.

Thank you for your continued adherence to NCAA rules.

For questions about NCAA rules specific to game day, recruiting or any other situation, please contact Dan Goldberg, Assistant Athletic Director Compliance & Recruiting, at (310) 794-8813 or [email protected].

Wallis Annenberg Soccer Stadium Grand Opening – August 17, 2018 This past month, UCLA hosted the Grand Opening of the new home of UCLA Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Located at the previously-named North Athletic Field, the festive event was held adjacent to the new stadium prior to the UCLA Women’s Soccer team holding their season home opener. UCLA dignitaries, UCLA Soccer alumni, donors and fans gathered to witness Wallis Annenberg cut the ribbon to formally open the stadium. The Grand Opening signified the completion of the first phase of the Wallis Annenberg Stadium project that featured grandstand seating and press box on the west side, a Daktronics LED video board and Musco Sports lighting. The stadium renovation was made possible with a generous lead gift of $5 million from the Annenberg Foundation. The Grand Opening event was followed by an exciting 1-0 UCLA Women’s Soccer win over Long Beach State with the winning goal coming with just two seconds left in regulation play. Future phases of the stadium project may include expanded stadium seating, a training room, student-athlete locker room, coaches' locker rooms, meeting spaces, ticketing space, and a new press box.
