On Thursday 22nd December 2011, the staff gathered for a Christmas Luncheon. Instead of the old BBQ lunch, Liz decided to do the more traditional Christmas lunch with cold meats and salads. About 30 staff gathered together whilst others had already started their Christmas leave. We had the room decorated as well as a Christmas tree and carols to set the scene. Everyone enjoyed themselves and with the left over food, we all wore Santa hats and delivered it to the Aged Care facility. The ladies enjoyed it as much as we did. Thanks again to everyone who helped out either beforehand or on the day.

The award is well deserved and shows recognition of the work that Mark and crew have put in to collecting, collating and preserving the history and culture of Wadeye.
Well done Mark.

Swimming NT Visit—Swimming Pathways Program
Issue 1—January 2012 Page 7
Jon Burns is currently in the community delivering a program called “Swimming Pathways”. The programs aims are to:
To increase active participation of able and disabled Indigenous Australians in sport and recreation activities; and
To encourage and increase community ownership and management of sport and physical recreation activities, including through skill development.
During Jon’s six week stay in Wadeye, he will be delivering swimming and physical recreation activities in conjunction with Katrina Bushby, Sport and Recreation Team Leader. He will also be endeavoring to deliver Swim Teacher accreditation training to staff involved in Youth Programs at the Shire Council.
Jon recently delivered the program at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic School in December 2011. The program concluded with a swimming carnival as depicted in the picture below.
Swimming lessons for all ages and abilities will be held from Monday to Friday during the next three weeks. Programs are also available for older residents of Wadeye and can include aqua aerobic activities, fitness programs for football and pre-natal classes for the ladies.
The program will also be delivered to the School at the conclusion of the School Holidays similar to the one recently held. A carnival will be held at the end of the program.
Please feel free to go down to the pool and talk to Jon and let’s see these programs continue on in Wadeye!
