The Scottish-American Military Society , Post 48, Phoenix, Arizona, honored us by performing The Missing Man Table. Turn to page 6 for additional photos of this very moving event.

We’ve got a terrific line up for our annual Christmas program. First up will be the Ignite Barbershop Quartet. Ignite began singing together after a quartet matching party in November 2015. They are all Champion members of Region 21's Scotts-dale Chorus and they will be singing for us!

President’s Message

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Holiday Greetings to All,

We are embarking on “the most wonderful time of the year!” I want to wish our Christian mem-bers “Merry Christmas” as you will be celebrating the “Miracle of the Birth of Baby Jesus.” I want to wish our Jewish members “Happy Hanukkah” as you will be cele-brating the “Festival of Lights.”

During this season I hope we will all take time to give thanks for our many blessings. We should be es-pecially thankful that we live in the

greatest country in the world! President Trump is mak-ing tremendous progress to “Make America Great Again!” We also have responsibilities to “Keep America Great!”

During this Season of Sharing, please take time out of your busy schedule and join us as we support those in need. Come to Walmart on December 9th at 8:00 am as we join with the Scottsdale Police Department in Shop with a Cop and help wrap gifts for these precious chil-dren.

Then, on Saturday December 16th at 8:30 am, come to the National Cemetery on Cave Creek Road and honor our Veterans by placing wreaths on their graves. We owe our “way of life” to these men and women who served in the military to keep our country strong and free.

This will be my last message to you as your President. These past two years have been exciting, challenging, stimulating, energizing and full of hard work! I've loved every minute of it!

We accomplished something that the media thought couldn't be done—we helped elect Donald Trump Presi-dent of the United States! Congratulations to all of us!

WILL ARIZONA LEGALIZE RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA IN 2018? VOTE NO AND TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

ONCE A STATE PROPOSITION IS PASSED THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE OR REPEAL IT IS BY ANOTHER BAL-LOT POROPOSITION. Good luck with that.

This proposition was on the ballot in 2016, and it’s coming back, although with a few nuanced differ-ences. Whatever, this proposition MUST be resisted and DEFEATED. An article in the Arizona Daily Sun (see link to the left) was recently published that gave sev-eral reasons as to why the proposition had less of a chance of passing even if it got enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. The reasons were valid, the au-thor is an expert, merely statement of facts, but pro-ponents have many big plans backed by BIG BUCKS yet to place into action. Phone polls are unreliable. Polling can’t reach cell phones. Millennials and some adults don’t have land lines or answer all calls.

REMEMBER 2016: The election night totals had Propo-sition 205 losing by 6 percent, BUT by the time all the drop-offs were found in CD1 (NAU territory) and CD2 (U of A territory), the margin of victory was down to 3 percent. That’s the result of Early Ballots or Mail-ins or Drop-offs. Don’t brush it off. That’s how SNL star/radio talker Al Franken overcame the lead of Mayor Norm Coleman to win the Senatorial race.

The Colorado experience has seen an explosion of teen use more than doubled last year from the year before to 55 percent. Teens grow up to drive delivery trucks, semi-trailer trucks, and school buses. At the end of this article, I have provide the URL for two arti-cles that you should at least glance at. The first piece reviews some effects five years after legalization in Colorado. Homelessness has mushroomed. Follow that up: declining property values, increased costs for police, sanitation, etc. Australian scientists study comes to an even scarier, conclusion.”

As a club, we really can’t do any work for candidates

for the August election, but we CAN and MUST work to defeat this Proposition.

WHY ADD ONE MORE SOCIAL ILL TO THE LIST OF OTHERS?

Palo Verde RW members always rise to pull to-gether to bring good causes across the finish line. We can expect a project coming our way in the early spring. Exercise your writing fingers to get them into shape.

The candidate petitions have left temporarily to help Santa. Santa will leave the petitions for January.

Once all the holidays are over we need to turn our focus back to local elections and step up to meet the Marijuana Proposition.

Wreaths Across America THANK YOU all for supporting Wreaths Across America 2017!

Michelle Creveling and I had a goal of 334 wreaths this year… and we almost made it!

We are proud to be able to write that we will be placing 308 wreaths on veteran’s graves this December 16. Last year our total was 257! We are growing our base so hopefully, in the not too distant future, all of the graves at our National Cemetery will display a wreath.

In Loving Memory

Condolences to member Lucky Perry on the death of her husband, Ret Reservist Lt Col Larry Edward Perry on November 3, 2018. He is buried in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life was held in Phoenix for family and friends followed by a funeral in Ft Worth at the lovely Marty Leonard Chapel.

Palo Verde RW members and guests were honored to have the Scottish-American Military Society, Post 48, in Phoenix, Arizona as our guest presenter in November. The group performed The Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) table ceremony in remembrance of all honorably discharged veterans that have gone before. The program was quite emotional and reminds us all again (as if we all need remind-ing) just how grateful we are for the commitment of our veterans to keep us free.

We don't know them all, but we owe them all! Thank you to all of our veterans!

Getting to Know Member Diana Tull

father, Yu Chin San, was the Chairman of the ma-jor opposition party, Shin Min Dang. Simultane-ously, he served in the Korean Parliament for 23 years until his death in 1974.

Palo Verde RW is my third Republican Women’s club. Around the late 1980s, I worked for a 1988 Presidential primary campaign and I worked in the Bob Dole for the 1988 Presidential primary cam-paign. I was one of the two National Co-chairs for Asian Americans for Bob Dole. At that time, I met and worked with Sylvia Herman, the wife of Albert B. Herman, former Republican Executive Director. Sylvia brought me to the Potomac RW club in Maryland. I served as the Americanism Chair. After moving back to Arizona in 1992, I became a member of Las Rancheras RW, where I was also

on the board.

In September of 2017, I attended the Kore-an Unification Research Forum in Seoul, Korea. This was with the invitation of the South Korean government. We were the thirty three Education Commissioners of Korea Unification representing the U.S., China and Japan. As part of this program, we were taken to the front line of the two Koreas.

I was overwhelmed, yet saddened, to ac-tually witness the demarcation line, the Im Jin river, peacefully flowing between the two Koreas. I was also taken aback to see how beautiful the country, Korea, was. I realized why the Korean people fought so hard for so long, over five thou-sand years, to keep the country from be-ing gobbled up by shameless neighbor-ing intruders.

Another thing at the demilitarized zone moved me: I met a group of about thirty Americans up there where people do not visit. I spoke with them and learned that they were United Methodists from Delaware. They came to pray for Korea. This reminded me of how kind American people are.

Are you married? Yes, for 40 plus years to Thomas M. Tull, Jr., a native of Philadelphia.

Children? Three daughters: Alisa, Karen and Judith. Alisa, an attorney, lives in Phoenix. Karen lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland and works in Washington DC for the National Council on Teacher Quality. Judith lives in Portland, Oregon and is an Engineer.

Grandchildren? Three: Emily, John and Dorothy.

Hobbies? Writing, painting (mostly oil), traveling and golf. I have published two books (two in English and two in Korean): three nonfiction and one fic-tion. My first non-fiction, Winds of Change: Korean Women in America, received the National Press Club Award in 1991. I am now working on my sec-ond fiction, working title, Promise. This is a story of a 14-year old girl who suddenly finds herself being an orphan when the Communists invaded Seoul where she was attending school.

Education/Career: Visiting Fellowship, Harvard University in East Asian Studies; Doctoral, The George Washington University; BA/MA, ASU. Before coming to America, I attended Ewha Women’s University after graduating from Ewha Middle and High School, all located in Seoul.

Director, Academic Staffing: The George Wash-ington University (coordinated and directed 500 plus part time faculty; Court Interpreter: Eng-lish/Korean languages for trials, depositions and interviews, 1996-2016; translated the Arizona Drivers Manual from English to Kore-an.

Honors and Distinctions: Pi Delta Kappa, Hon-or Society in Education; Examiner: Doctoral Candidates’ Final Oral Exam; Graduate Assis-tant (The George Washington University).

Where are you from originally? I am from the Republic of Korea, also known as South Korea. I have lived in Arizona for 34 years.

What got you involved in politics? As much as my fami-ly tried to keep me away from politics, I found myself inter-ested in politics at all levels. I have come from a long time political family in Korea. My grandfather on my mother’s side, was the governor of his province, Keum San, for 17 years. My grand uncle on my father’s side was ahmeng-uesa, ombudsman. This was after first serving as governor

Palo Verde Republican Women was chartered in

January 1974 under the guidance of Mrs. Joan

Wood who became the club’s first president. Most

of the charter members had been a part of Scotts-

dale Republican Women, one of the most active

groups in the state of Arizona. The club eventually

withdrew from the National Federation of Republi-

can Women and member Joan Wood and others

who wished to remain in the Federation formed

Palo Verde RW. From the beginning, Palo Verde

RW maintained a reputation as a vigorous and ac-

tive club, and has remained a powerful force within

the Federation to this day. We educate our mem-

bers through programs presented at our monthly

meetings (the third Wednesday of every month—

except July and August), through our monthly

newsletter (The Patriot), and by attending AzFRW

quarterly meetings.
