Hi from Nat’l. Chevy, It appears that summer has arrived in Minnesota. Car shows have started, auctions, fishing opened, temps and humidity have risen and yet a week ago we had frost. A favorite saying in Minnesota is “if you don’t like the weather give it 5 minutes – it’ll change.” We’ve been keeping busy at the shop. Orders are coming in and we have done something like 36 interiors without a break. There have been as many as 10 on the board at one time. So – thanks to everyone for their pa-tience, and if you have any problems, please remember to let us know so we can fix the problem. We’re starting to get ready for our big Back to the 50’s show here in St. Paul and the Iola Show. This year it looks like we’ll only be at the show on Wednesday (set-up day), Thursday and Friday – leaving Friday evening. We can bring parts for you to save you shipping charges, but they will have to be picked up by Friday afternoon. Paul and I recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with a short trip to Wisconsin Dells and will soon have a small family dinner. I’m personally hoping we have many more years together. Check your new parts section – many more metal panels are becoming available and we’re also starting to get some items back in stock that we’ve been out of. Time to go — send pictures and articles – ‘Til next time......

Real Cool Decorating IdeasNational Chevy, Greetings friends. Here are a few pictures of my latest creations using some extra parts from my ‘54 BelAir. Feel free to share these with the readers. If many of your are like me, you’ll have some extra parts lying around, gathering dust or just stored in the garage waiting for a new idea. So if you can talk your sweetie into using them in the house, then you are a lucky man. I happen to have friends who wanted their master bathroom remodeled in a 50’s decor. Here are some creative suggestions that I offered and we had fun using. First I took a spare ‘54 tail light bezel and made it into the light and ceiling fan switch. I had to create the plastic backing for the switch and a way for secure mounting. As for the fan, our local auto parts store had the perfect chrome carburetor cover. Also, I suggested we use a ‘54 glove compartment for the [spare] toilet paper holder, which I mounted over the new chrome heater. I made the box, lined with aromatic cedar. I used cabinet door hinges and added a chrome door pull to open it. * For fun, if anyone wanted, the box could also be used as a paper towel holder in the kitchen, or a bread box. “If” your lady would let you put it in the kitchen. The tile work was simple enough. Black and white squares on the floor and a checkerboard pattern for the shower. We did find lights for over the mirror that followed the 50’s decor look. Thanks again for all your support and diligence in providing parts for my projects, my car and now remodels.

    Cover Car

Dear National Chevy Assn.-- A totally stock ’50 Chevy Sedan Delivery was one of my very first cars when I was about 17. It was a funky and faded oxidized green, and more than a little banged up, and I got it for $150. I loved that car, but I never got a chance to do everything that I dreamed of doing to it. I’d only had it for about six months when the 216 blew up coming over the Grapevine—a famously brutal highway in Southern California, where I lived back then—and the car got impounded before I could get back to get it. I didn’t have the money to get it out of impound, so I lost it. Gone forever. Man, that broke my heart. Jump forward thirty-some years to 2006. I’d been in Wisconsin for about fifteen years by then. I was browsing around on eBay one night, just looking at cars I used to own, reminiscing. Eventually I thought to look for a sedan delivery like the one I used to have. And up popped this car that looked just like the dreams I had when I was 17. The restoration was about ten years old, but it was still beautiful. The description said the car had been in the seller’s family for over thirty years. I contacted the guy and he told me it had a blown motor when they got it, and it was green—and I also found out that they got it at an impound yard in the same town in California where I’d lost mine when I was a teenager. There was no way to prove for sure that it was the same car, but I knew it was. And of course I wound up trekking clear across the country and buying it. That was about seven years ago. I’ve replaced, rebuilt, and redone almost everything on it since then, and I figured since you’ve contributed so much to this project, it was about time you got to see it. I am never, ever going to let this baby out of my sight again. Thanks for being there—I just wish I’d found you sooner!
