As temperatures rises it is important to practice hot weather safety to avoid possible heat exhaustion, sun burn, or dehydration. Follow these easy tips to help prepare yourself during the hotter days of the summer months: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of liquids. Water, lemonade, juice or other non-caffeinated or non-alcoholic drinks will aid in keeping you hydrated. Keep a bottle of water on hand or stay near a hydration station when possible. Avoid going outdoors during the hottest part of the day when possible. Going outdoors in the early morning and

the evening rather than in the mid-afternoon will help to avoid the hottest portion of the day. Dress for the weather and for skin protection. Instead of dressing in shorts and short sleeve shirts in the hot months opt for light weight but long-sleeved items to help keep cool and protect the skin from the sun. Be aware of the symptoms of heat related illness. There are many warning signs for heat related problems including skin that is reddening, dizziness, nausea, breathing problems, and rapid heartbeat. Seek help if experiencing these symptoms.

Getting to Know...

… Karen Rosander. Karen was Sweetbriar

Villa’s Employee of the Month this past May!

Karen has worked in the field of Caregiving for

20 years. Karen’s favorite part of the job is

gaining the residents trust and forming a bond

with them. Karen also worked in construction

framing Motel 6’s. She also worked on the

Alaskan pipeline for one year. When you work

on the Alaskan Pipeline you work ten hours a

day, seven days a week!

Karen grew up in Springfield, Oregon and

after she married her husband, Eric, she moved

to Central Point, Oregon. She later moved back

to Springfield after Eric’s death in 2002.

Karen has been to every state this side of

the Mississippi. She has also been to Tahiti and

Hawaii. She says that Tahiti is amazing. Thank

you Karen, for sharing a bit of your life with us!

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream and why? July 16th is National Ice Cream Day. In honor of this observance of one of our favorite foods we asked residents and staff to tell us about their favorite ice cream flavor. So, here is the scoop on Sweetbriar Villa’s favorite ice cream treats!

Resident of the Month

Meet Lorena Cornelison, born Lorena Elizabeth Shaw.

Lorena was born in Gooding, Idaho and spent her childhood

there, going to High School in the city of Caldwell. She met

George Marvin Cornelison and they married. They had two

children, Shirley Marlene and her younger brother Mark Lyle.

She has two granddaughters and three great grandchildren.

In high school, Lorena worked in an ice cream parlor. Later

on she worked as a Cashier in Safeway and at a bank.

Lorena’s social world always centered around her church. She was very active in the music and

children’s programs. She is a faithful Protestant. Lorena had many hobbies, some include painting,

both oil and china. She has some lovely pieces displayed in her room, she is truly amazing. She

was always interested in crocheting, quilting and embroidery. She loves music and plays the piano,

organ, violin and even the trombone! She played the organ in church for years. She has very fond

memories of these good times. Lorena loves her family! Lorena thank you for sharing a bit of your

life with us. It’s been very interesting.
