Addressing the need for plant-widecommunication,Rockwell Automationintroduces its new line of large formatmessage displays –The Allen-BradleyInView MessageDisplays.

These displays are designed to deliver the

3 R’s – the Right information, to the Right

place, at the Right time. While the 3 R’s are

important, so is the way you deliver the

message. Rockwell Automation understands

that different applications require different solutions,

and InView offers ten different ways to deliver the

message – whether it is process alarming, safety

messages, process or inventory data, or just thanking

the team – an InView display will meet your needs.

While many products can communicate information to

one person about a single process – few can

communicate to many at once. InView products offer 1-

line, 2-line, 3-line, and 4-line displays, in red or tri-color

LEDs for clear and colorful viewing from up to 350 feet.

Company X’s client computers endure extremetemperatures and damp conditions causingnumerous computer failures. Replacing thehardware and reloading software costs time andmoney. Company Y has a drill-site far from town.

Every week, an employee loses a day driving out to checkthe equipment. At Company Z, hackers have broken intothe server databanks by accessing clients from unsecuredareas. And each company wants to update their softwarewith a minimum of downtime. There is one solution toeach dilemma: RSView32 Active Display System 6.30 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Terminal Services.

Windows 2000 Terminal Services offers the benefit of localdata processing without the hassle of having high-poweredcomputers on the shop floor. Using a variety of thin clients, you can improve your security, productivity, costs, andflexibility. Combine RSView32 Active Display and Terminal Services to use thin clients that remotely openapplications, store data, and process information onservers located near or far.

The BenefitsLower costsUpgrade entire networks with a single softwareinstallation on the server, where all applications are run.Reduce capital costs by replacing high-powered clientswith lower-cost thin clients and/or clients designed for theparticular demands of your workplace.

Increase security and productivitySome thin clients have no bootable drives, making themvirtually hack-proof. Since they store no data, focus yoursecurity measures on servers, which can be safely lockedaway. Also, Terminal Services and RSView32 ActiveDisplay have a host of features that can combine to enablesecure Virtual Private Network connections whenconnecting your enterprise over the Internet.

Plus, since remote machines can be accessed andcontrolled from afar, days are no longer wasted driving todistant locations for data readings — saving you money.

Enhance flexibilityRSView32 Active Display 6.30 serves up cutting-edgeremote access options that can be extended with TerminalServices. Because servers handle data processing, thinclients, such as the diskless Windows CE-based RAC6182,can be used with just enough hardware for the most basicfunctions. You can even use wireless handheld devices inyour thin client arsenal, use almost any type of networkconnection, and link to MS-DOS, Unix, Linux, or Macintoshclients using third-party add-ons.

NOTE: All mention of Terminal Services refers only to Windows2000 Terminal Services, available in Windows 2000 Server,Advanced Server, and Datacenter Server.

Terminal Services can extend your network across the globe.

Currently, most operator interface devices are mounted to a fixed panel. If an operator or maintenance person needs to move around a machine and also needs to access the operator interface,

they must move back and forth between theinterface and the area of interest. This is timeconsuming and can be difficult. Their solutionmight be to enlist the help of a second individualto monitor and control the panel mount devicewhile they move about the machine, but now two people are required to get the job done.

Portable HMIs increase worker productivity by putting the information and machine controlwherever it is needed. They reduce machine set-up, downtime for maintenance, andtroubleshooting.

Rockwell Automation will introduce itsMobileView operator interface product line in the Fall, 2001. MobileView will encompass several products to meet the diverse needs of the factory floor today. This flexibility will allow users to put the interface where it is needed for all applications.

MobileView Machine TerminalThe rugged MobileView Machine Terminal series will includeproducts ready to live on the plant floor as an integral part of your machine or process. Options including touch screen or tactile feedback keypads to interact with the process and allowfunctionality that used to be confined to a panel mount device.

The first member of the MobileView Terminal family will be theMobileView Machine Terminal MT750. This rugged, ergonomicterminal will endure the rigors of the factory floor, but be easy for operators to use.

The MT750 is a powerful Windows CE platform includingWindows Terminal Client to support Thin-Client architectures.Ethernet communications provide the link to the network.

The ergonomic round enclosure makes the MT750 comfortable for both left and right handed users, and also helps the terminalsurvive bumps and falls. The touch screen, function keys, andnumeric keypad allows for flexible and intuitive interaction withthe control system.

For safety applications, the MobileView Guard products willprovide operator interface plus safety components. With on boardemergency stop pushbuttons and three position enable switches,an operator has mobile access to the safety system as well as ageneral interface to the control system.
