Kirklees Council launched its draf t Local Plan in October, which ident if ies locat ions that could be used for housing during the next 20 years. As part of the plan, the proposed area for Farnley Country Park has been designated Strategic Green Inf rastructure.

While this is good news, the areas of land within the boundary of the Park, which Farnley Estates put forward for the hub and the means to fund its development and maintenance, have not been accepted. Director, Paul Sykes, explained what this means for Farnley Country Park:

?It?s a really positive step that the Council has recognised Farnley Country Park in this way but as it stands, we have no way of making it happen. Without the hub there is no Park, and without the housing allocation, we have no way of paying for the Park.?

All is not lost. From 9 November to 18 December Kirklees Council is holding a public consultation on the draft Local Plan. It gives local people six weeks to have their say on the proposed land allocations.

?It?s apparent from the draft Local Plan that Kirklees has to build on green belt land to meet its housing quota over the next couple of decades. Our offer stil l stands, if you have to build on green belt then get a country park out of it,? adds Paul.

?We know from our research that Farnley Country Park will really benefit local people in terms of outdoor education, health leisure, conservation and jobs. But we need people to tell Kirklees Council, through their Public Consultation, that they want us to make it happen,? adds Paul.

=

Welcome to member of the month. This new November, we are pleased to int roduce you to Ian Lawson Corporate Social Responsibi l i ty Lead at Cummins Turbo Technologies

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Please give a brief descript ion of your organisat ion:

Cummins Turbo Technologies is the market-leading designer and manufacturer of turbochargers for the medium to heavy-duty diesel engines market.

1. Why did you join the partnership?

In my role of Corporate Responsibil ity leader I was looking for networks that could help me understand the needs in our local area where Cummins could help. It?s also important to f ind other companies that are engaged in Corporate responsibil ity to share ideas and see if there are areas where we can pool our resources. As it turned out, we used some of our resources to help the Huddersf ield Partnership move some stuff !

2. What are your organisat ions business aspirat ions for the remainder of 2016?

Cummins Turbo Technologies employs approximately 1,000 people in Huddersf ield. We design and manufacture Turbochargers for medium to large diesel engines. As Im writ ing this article with my Corporate responsibil ity leader hat on as I will talk a litt le bit about our aspirations for our community work next year. In 2015 we are on target for engaging over 800 of our employees in community work in Education, Environment and Social Justice. We have helped over 80 organisations this year and contributed approximately 7,500 hours in our community work. Next year we want to continue to try and use our employee?s skills to identify where we can be more impactful and also we are looking to identify areas where we can focus our work across our three focus areas.

3. Give three words to describe your company?

Ilobal, Technology Leader, Diverse

4. Give us three words about yoursel f?

Lively, Committed, Caring (I could have used Trouble as a lot of people think that?s my middle name !!)

5. What was your proudest achievement within your career history ?

Winning the Examiner business community award last night (12.11.15)

6. Have you ever met anyone famous, please tel l us about i t (keep it short )?

7. If you could pass on one single piece of advice about the world of business what would it be?

Engage with the community where you are located and try and make a dif ference, regardless of your business focus

8. If you could change something about Huddersf ield what would it be?

Open up the river side close to the town centre and make it accessible to all people. Being born in York, the river is one of the key city landmarks and for me there is something relaxing about water be it either rivers or the sea.

9. If you could give the Partnership some advice what would it be?

Find an effective way to allow organisations to network and help each other, especially in the voluntary sector. As I work with organisations in Huddersf ield this is one of the key themes that I hear quite frequently.
