Our sport has seen some great advances in technology over the past few seasons. The introduction of brushless motors and LiPo batteries has made the sport a more level playing field and a lot more user friendly. Lately however the pace of electronic development has outpaced the sport for many with the latest Stock Spec Speedos become a major talking point. During our most recently events in the Czech Republic and Poland it was very easy to see that racing was being determined by the latest speedo rather than the individual ability of each driver and after racing it was clear that this was taking the fun out of our events for the majority of the Pro-Stock racers who have travelled across Europe with us to be a part of the Euro Touring Series.

The debate on the latest generation of speedos designed specifically for Pro-Stock has become an international one

and is sure to continue for some time but after many conversat ions with drivers of all levels we have decided to take our own action in an attempt to create a more level playing field again at ETS races. Starting at Round 5 in Heemstede we will introduce a spec speedo

for the Pro-Stock class. The Speedpassion ‘Citrix Stock Club Race’ will, thanks to the support of Speedpassion, be available for purchase at a special ETS price of just €49 or rental fee of only €5 per event for those only racing in selected rounds.

We have had five Citrix speedos out with drivers for testing and the feedback has been very positive. Although it does not match the same crazy top speeds as the latest genera-tion Stock Spec speedos it does meet our criteria of being easy to set-up, runs motors at low temperature and will give drivers the chance to race on an equal footing. We are also confident it will help produce good close racing. We hope drivers find our decision as a positive thing for the sport and that come Sunday evening in Heemstede we can see that drivers are back enjoying their racing once again.

Speedpassion are preparing a 130 Citrix speedos for Round 5 and these should arrive with use by the end of April. For drivers already registered for Heemstede or Andernach they can order their speedo now and we will ship it to you for pre race testing once we receive them. Unfortunately we are not in a position to ship out rental speedos prior to the race.

After four hugely successful indoor races it is now time to take things outdoors as the Euro Touring Series returns to the home track of defending champion Jilles Groskamp. One of the venues that formed the inaugural ETS calendar 3 years ago, Heemstede will host the fifth round of the Xenon Racing sponsored 2009/10 Series from May 21-23.

Situated just 15km from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, booking in details for the Model Auto Club Heemstede hosted race can be found on our official web site www.eurotouringseries.com where you will find links to RC Timing, our official entry/timing partner. You will also find details on travel and accomodation. If you require any additional information about the Dutch round of the ETS or have any questions regarding the series feel free to e-mail Uwe Rheinard at - [email protected]

Zdenek Hamak was the star of Round 3. The Czech driver set some blistering laps going on to claim his best ever international result with 4th overall.

Together with his father, top international Czech racer Michal Bok did a first class job of hosting the country’s first ETS encounter.

British Championship front runner Olly Jefferies made his ETS debut in Czech. Joining forces with Associated team-mate Juho Levanen they both made the A-Main.

FIRST VISIT TO CZECH REPUBLICTICKS ALL THE RIGHT BOXES

Electric and Nitro IFMAR Touring Car World Champions Marc Rheinard and Daniele Ielasi became team-mates in Hrotovice. Marc went on to win the event while Daniele made it into the C Final where he finished 8th.

The facilities for the first visit to Hrotovice were perfect.

They may be the newest country to join the Euro Touring Series calendar, but the Czech Republic put together a great first event for the 177 drivers who travelled to the small snow covered town of Hrotovice at the end of January. Designing a track that drew nothing but praise from racers, the venue proved very popular not just for racing but also socially as competitors made use of the bowling alley, pool tables and other facilities in the hotel to wind down at the end of each days race action.

Starting from pole position Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard backed up his Budapest victory by claiming the top step on the podium ahead of Round 1 winner Viktor Wilck and Team Associated’s lead driver Juho Levanen. In Pro-Stock Daniel Wohlgemuth converted his TQ honours into victory ahead of Russian Ivan Laptev and Dennis Fadtke, who won a thrilling opening leg of the final from 9th on the grid.

Tamiya Racing Factory designer Kiyo Suzuki travelled from Japan to race in Hrotovice finishing one place ahead of Nitro World Champion Daniele Ielasi.

Qualifying a very impressive third overall in Pro-Stock, local Electric Off-Road racer Jiri Mara was presented with the Speed Passion ‘One to Watch’ Award.

One young driver to come through the development program is Michal Orlowski who was presented with the Speed Passion ‘One to Watch’ Award at his home race after he claimed his third ETS Hobby Class win of the season.

POLAND PUTS ON ANOTHER WORLD CLASS EVENT

Once again Poland played host to a world class event. Moving venue to Arena Ursynow, the largest indoor hall in Warsaw, the club were able to build a huge track.

The beginning of March saw the ETS return to the Polish capital of Warsaw for Round 4. Making its debut on last season’s calendar, this year’s encounter moved to the fantastic Arena Ursynow where the 200+ entry were once again presented with a world class event. The hosting OSM club displayed great professionalism in every aspect of the event from building the huge track to attracting extenisve national television coverage, work that endorses Poland’s bid to host the EFRA Indoor European Championships.

Racing saw Marc Rheinard complete a hat trick of consecutive wins as he headed home Tamiya team-mate Viktor Wilck and the Yokomo of the returning Steven Weiss. In Pro-Stock Alexander Stocker won from pole ahead of Zdenko Kunák and a very happy Oliver Franke who joined them on the podium. Poland’s future international hope Michal Orlowski dominated the Hobby class.

Gerd Strenge, the designer behind Durango, took part in the Hobby Class and bagged himself a podium finish.

Steven Weiss made a welcomed return to the ETS at Round 4 and took his new Yokomo to 3rd overall.

The organisers put on a complimentary dinner on the Saturday night for all the drivers and their families.

Youth plays a key part in the OSM’s development plan for r/c racing in Poland. Their work with kids is highly commendable and is sure to produce many future champions for the country.
