President’s Plug

August 2016

As the upcoming 2016-17 Quad Cities Chapter #71 begins, I would like to thank everyone for

entrusting me to be the new President for this year. We have some exciting things planned for the

new year and hope that you all can be a part of our activities. First off, we have our annual

Scholarship Golf Outing scheduled for September 16 at Sunrise Golf Course in Bettendorf. If the

invitation has missed you, please email myself at [email protected] or

[email protected] for details and registration. It is sure to be a good time with

great weather and great food. Secondly, we will be beginning our monthly programs again very

soon and look forward to seeing everyone attend as you are able. The program schedules are be-

ing finalized and we plan to use Granite City as our venue again as it has been well received.

I was also able to represent our local chapter at the national convention and annual meeting in

Tampa. I was pleased to hear of how well our chapter is performing next to other chapters whose

attendance and membership is constrained. Our chapter is full of professionals who appreciate

the fellowship and sharing of new trends without boundaries of competition or secularism. The

organization as a whole, voted at the national level to streamline their board and way of doing

things so that it better represents the 21st century and will be set up for another century of success.

I will continue to update you on their progress in forthcoming updates.

Thanks again for the privilege of serving you and our organization

Sincerely,

Ryan Andresen

Name: Rob Berger

ASPE Position: 3rd Vice President

ASPE Member Since: 2014

Company: Bush Construction Since: 2014

Years Estimating: 2 Years

Education: Bachelor s of Science in Construction Engineer ing, Iowa State

University

Current Projects: Salem Lutheran Church, Piehl Motors, Advance Homes,

Wilson Building, among many others

History: Rob had a great interest in construction from an ear ly age. He

grew up in a new housing development in which he observed many new homes

being constructed, was enrolling in many woodworking courses in high school

and often thought about entering the trades after graduating. Uncertain about a

career, he continued his education at Scott Community College for two years. He

then transferred to Iowa State University as an undeclared engineering major. As

part of the undeclared engineering program, each engineering principle has the

opportunity to present to the students about their specific discipline.

Construction engineering quickly grabbed his attention. After graduating, Rob

started his career with Bush Construction as a project engineer. Most of his

efforts are focused on estimating new and current projects with some focus on

assisting project managers.

A LITTLE HELP PLEASE

As part of the National ASPE Awards Program, we submit various items every year in order to accumu-late enough points to earn the highest awards possible for our chapter. These achievements are recog-nized at ASPE’s National Convention. Many of these points are earned through membership, certifica-tion, participation both within and outside the organization and from the contents of this newsletter. We ask that you please consider doing your part to help us be the best chapter that we can. Attending monthly meetings, enlisting a new member, becoming a CPE, or simply writing a technical article for the Bottom Line are all great and easy ways that you can make Quad City Chapter # 71 even better. Thank You.
