Earth Hour – Saturday 28th March 2011

From its debut in one city in one country in 2007 – Sydney, Australia – when 2.2 million individuals turned their lights off to take a stand against climate change, Earth Hour has become a truly global movement, embracing 128 countries and territories in 2010.

2011 marks a new phase for the initiative. The new campaign creative, 60+, will position Earth Hour 2011 as an hour of celebration where the community comes together and makes a pledge to do more to help the planet.

There is still a manual process where components require extensive handling to achieve the highest recycling results. SIMs have a very strict global OH&S policy to minimise risk & injury.

Electronic items are further inspected and classified for Asset Recovery or E-waste.

E-waste is received from other Australian SIMs facilities for shredding. This is the only shredder of its kind in Australia.

WSN Alternative Waste Technology – Macarthur

The organic material decomposes due to naturally occurring biological activity.

Temperatures are monitored and water may be used to control heat. Macarthur AWT produces approx 10,000 tonnes of nutrient rich organic fertilisers and composts each year.
