Combining high performance fibers with patented technology to outperform steel
Our expertise in the use of high performance synthetic fibers hails back to the introduction of Kevlar® more than 30 years ago. The high strength, high modulus, low elongation, and light weight of modern high performance fibers are optimized by Cortland’s manufacturing techniques and specialized constructions.
Cortland offers a unique combination of high performance lightweight fibers and patented design and construction techniques that result in ropes stronger, safer and more flexible than steel. They are also easy to inspect and easy to splice. For decades, Cortland has led in the production of customized high performance lines such as heavy lift rope, slings and tethers, offshore working and lifting lines, buoy mooring systems, tug and salvage lines, inland river lines, ship and barge mooring lines, winch lines, and even theatrical rigging.
Today, Cortland is also the only provider with the knowledge, experience and history with both rope and round slings, which allows us to create the best solution for the application. We custom design and build deepwater and heavy-lift rope, sling and tether solutions that safely and efficiently perform to exacting standards.

Umbilical Solutions
Cortland designs and manufactures umbilicals suitable for the majority of subsea applications, including deepwater, workover/intervention, and maintenance. We are the market leader for the supply of diving umbilicals. Our umbilicals provide varied services including hydraulic, electrical, optical, and pneumatic. In addition, all of the product offered can be supplied fully terminated.
Umbilicals are designed with a full understanding of the application required, and therefore we can offer product with steel or fibre strength members, all of which can be protected with a final jacket, whichever suits the specific application or operating system. Because of the harsh environment and long working life, careful consideration is given to the operational stresses encountered. As with most products manufactured by Cortland, exact specifications are agreed upon on a project-by-project basis.

Cortland is a recognized leader of customized rope and cable solutions maximizing performance, safety, and efficiency for customers around the world. The application and design experience of our engineers makes us exceptionally capable of understanding the most complex problems our customers face.
We are experienced in the engineering and manufacturing of synthetic strength members for medical devices and surgical procedures. We have developed tow lines from high modulus synthetic fibers offering the same strength as steel cables but 86% lighter. We have developed heavy lift slings for use on land and in deepwater, which are lightweight, easy to handle, and not affected by salt or fresh water.
