INTRODUCTION AND OUTLINE OF COURSE Part of being a professional is being creative. Creating a program that encourages the client to get stronger, be better and stay healthy. In

order for us to peak our client interest, we ourselves need to develop certain skills that create that overall flow accompanied with teaching

techniques that maintain an energy within the class that will reap results. This course is going to assist the professional to think out of the

box, create excellent flow in their session as well as observe a teaching style that will ensure that you keep your clients coming back for more

in your movement classes. We make use of the small ball and illustrate all of the amazing ways that we can use this ball within a group class.

We illustrate the versatility of the small ball and bring in the elements of efficient teaching through a full body workout.

Aim: This course is designed to provide the professional with creative ideas to keep their patients or clients intrigued and coming back for more

session. It is a course that will improve their methods of class delivery while adopting the skill of creating flow, closed chain training, open chain

training and full body integration training. Exercise design is part of a movement professional’s career and therefore this course will ignite that

creative spark to want to be creative and be client specific with your programs. They will also have a full program that they can do with the small

ball.

Course description:

➢ Exercises are performed on the exercise mat.

➢ Comprehensive intermediate exercise program that creates awareness of body positioning, movement and client capabilities.

➢ Tips on how to perform the movements with precision in order to obtain optimal muscular contractions without compensations.

➢ Comprehensive explanations of each exercise as well as the ability to talk your client through the exercise without demonstration.

➢ Ensuring that the exercises flow from one into the next.

Course requirements:

➢ Computer, Internet, Manual (to be printed off of website), stationery.

➢ Small ball and mat.

Course agenda:

1. This course is done online at a time convenient for the candidate

2. The course is presented via a video so the candidate is able to watch the course and follow the presenter from the manual

3. The course is covered in 1 session

4. The course duration is approximately 50 minutes

5. At the end of the final session, they are to complete a test at their convenience

6. They will also receive the 1-page course summary

7. A certificate will be available once they have achieved 70% on the test

When structuring a class, it is important that the class has an introduction, a body and a conclusion. These will entail:

Introduction The introduction is there to allow the client the opportunity to bring focus to their body. This part of the class should incorporate gentle breathing and simple spinal articulation. You can also incorporate gentle core contractions as this will enhance the focus of the mind to body, especially if you combine this with spinal articulation. The introduction will have approximately 3 – 4 movements or exercises in it. When teaching the warm-up or introduction, the instructors voice will be more relaxed and soothing. The Introduction is based on quieting the mind and warming up the body in order to encourage optimal training that will occur in the Body of the class.

Body The body of the class has a specific focus and makes use of any large or small apparatus. In this course, we take a look at a class that brings in the small ball. Keep this part of the class dynamic and ensure that there is an even flow as the client transitions from one exercise to the next. Inform your clients of what the focus or theme for the class will be as this will keep them informed and build up their excitement for the class. This is the section where you can bring in your innovative spirit and create a class that is filled with new exercises. The body of the class will also incorporate movement principles i.e. closed chain and open chain training. Teach exercises that allow the client to explore their body in various positions as this also develops a mind-body connection. The body of the class will include:

o A theme or focus o Movement principles o No apparatus or small or larger apparatus o Change of body positions o Increased intensity o Increased repetitions o A change in the instructor’s voice (it may become more intense) o 8 – 15 exercises

Conclusion

The conclusion focuses on cooling the body down, slowing the breathing down and allowing the client to bring their mind back to their breathing. You can bring in a few stretches with deep breathing as well as gently spinal articulation and total body relaxation. The conclusion will consist of approximately 2 – 3 movements to bring the body back to stillness.

In order to teach a successful class, we need to incorporate specific teaching principles:

Voice; Using the dynamics in your voice will create intensity, serenity and enthusiasm in the class Talk your client through the exercise; this will help them develop their mind-body connection Anatomy; Educate them with regards to the muscles producing the movements and the changing of joint

positions

Always be mindful of who you are training and remember:

to plan your class, decide on the theme for your class prepare your area that you are going to teach in, use your voice, create a flow as your transition from one exercise to the next

Create a class that is innovative and make client retention your main objective.
