The extraordinary performance capability of the #14-6 ConFlex
screw-anchor is a result of its larger tensile stress area and
ductile characteristics.

The over-sized #14 diameter ConFlex screw-anchor provides virtual
immunity to embrittlement failure. Embrittlement failure of screws
can be caused by hydrogen assisted stress corrosion cracking
(HASCC) as a result of dissimilar metal connections in the presence
of moisture. With the enhanced ductility of Grade 5 dual-hardened
ConFlex screws, you won't encounter "broken blue screws" anymore!
In addition, with its over-sized design and patented 40-45° thread
profile, it provides enhanced anchor and connection strengths
compared to the common alternating high and low thread design of
standard concrete screws. - Virtual immunity to embrittlement
failure - Superior connection strengths compared to conventional
1/4" concrete screws for
higher performance! - Ideal for store-front and curtain wall
construction!

Corrosion Resistance Finish The #14 ConFlex masonry screws are
available in two excellent corrosion resistant coatings. The hex
head version is fully coated in Stalgard SUB. This coating resists
red rust for more than 2,000 hours salt spray exposure per ASTM
B117. The Flat and Trim head versions come with the standard
Stalgard coating and provide more than 1,000 hours of salt spray
exposure resistance per ASTM B117. All Stalgard finishes are RoHS
compliant (Chrome-Free).

Installation 1. Determine embedment depth. Anchor embedment is the
distance from the tip of
screw to surface of the base material. Account for the fixture
thickness when selecting a screw length.
2. Drill a pilot hole with a standard ANSI 7/32" masonry drill bit
a minimum of 1/4" deeper than desired embedment.
3. Using an appropriately sized driver bit and impact wrench drive
the fastener into the pilot hole until flush with the
fixture.
DO NOT over drive the fastener.
The #14 ConFlex provides exceptional pull-out and shear values - a
significant advantage for lowering installation costs and long term
connection integrity

C-90 For each listed embedment, linear interpolation may be used
for intermediate spacing and edge distances. Indicated tension and
shear values listed were obtained in tests conducted at an
independent lab. These values have had an applied safety factor of
5:1 or 20% for CMU Data; 4:1 or 25% for Concrete Data (top table)
of the average ultimate value obtained. These reductions are
generally accepted practices for safe working loads; Note
additional reductions may be advisable based upon actual anchoring
conditions. It is always recommended to have a professional
engineer review anchoring conditions for long-term and safe
connections. Reference should always be made to applicable building
codes for specific safe allowable loads.

Free Hydrogen
Galvanic reaction occurs when dissimilar metals are in contact in
the presence of moisture
Aluminum Fixture (Anode)
Steel Screw (Cathode)
HASCC - Hydrogen Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking
Why does HASCC occur? Free hydrogen atoms are generated in galvanic
reactions as a result of a dissimilar metal connection in the
presence of moisture. Free hydrogen atoms are also generated in
similar metal connections involving steel as the result of the
normal corrosion process.
Why is HASCC dangerous? The free hydrogen enters the fastener
through microscopic surface cracks. Providing the fastener has a
hardness equal to or greater than Rockwell C35 and is under stress
and / or load, the crystalline structure of the hardened steel is
broken down or split apart. As the propagation of the cracks in the
steel continues, the functional cross sectional area of the screw
is reduced significantly. Then, without notice, the screw's
remaining cross sectional area can not maintain the load that it is
under and sudden catastrophic failure occurs. This sequence can
occur within a day, days, months or years.
How is HASCC Controlled? Through the use of high quality steel
alloys and a heat treatment process that results in Grade 5
metallurgical properties, strength and significantly enhanced
ductility are achieved. It is the Grade 5 ductility that provides
virtual immunity to embrittlement failure.
