Introduction

Welcome to the LP® SmartSide® Preferred Installer Training Program. This is the first of five online self-study modules that make up Level 1 of the program. Each module comes with a quiz. You can take each quiz as many times as you want, but you’ll need to score at least 90% to qualify for Level 2 hands-on installer training events.

This module is an introduction to the LP SmartSide system: what it is, how it’s made, key features and benefits, plus an overview of the four product families that make up the system.

LP® SmartSide® Aesthetics

We’ve talked about how LP SmartSide products offer great performance, but homeowners don’t always notice or care what’s under the hood. They’re more interested in how it looks, and SmartSide trim and siding gives you all the architectural options you need.

A variety of lap siding styles are available. All lap sidings are 16' long, which means up to 33% fewer seams than 12' lengths. The trim boards are sized to replace solid lumber, so you don’t have to rethink every measurement. Lap sidings and trim come with a textured face like resawn cedar, and some are also available with a smooth face just like surfaced lumber.

Cedar shake siding comes 12" x 48" and can be used either as decorative accents or to side the entire house. Panel siding styles include grooved, reverse board-and-batten, and stucco. Some panels come in lengths that cover tall walls without horizontal seams.
