WHAT’S TRENDING IN THE MARKETPLACE?
HOW IS TECHNOLOGY TRANSFORMING BUSINESSES?
Companies are dealing with a data explosion that is causing a digital disruption – however, with disruption comes unprecedented opportunity. Technologies such as AI, machine learning and particularly deep learning are growing in popularity and are driving innovation, boosting performance and improving decision-making and risk management across enterprises. It’s turning data into the key driver of competitive advantage.
More and more companies are also turning to advanced analytics for better decision-making, many having already achieved success. As data and analytics feed digitalization and transformation efforts, companies are using advanced analytics for innovation, disruption, speed to market, and data monetization initiatives.
The shift to become a data-driven culture is challenging, but companies are investing in transformation initiatives to achieve this shift. Early adopters of this culture are focused on achieving data-driven business innovations. Larger companies that are not data driven are concerned about disruption by smaller startup firms that are typically born data driven.
Compelled to curtail IT spending, improve enterprise IT agility and accelerate innovation, 70% of CIOs will aggressively apply data and AI to IT operations, tools and processes by 2021.*
Within two years, businesses expect to derive major gains from advanced AI in strategic and financial performance, ability to scale global business and greater market share.**
Insights-driven businesses are growing at an average of more than 30% annually and are predicted to earn $1.8 trillion annually by 2021.***
79.4% of executives say they fear disruption from data-driven competitors, and 54.4% report that an inability to be nimble and compete on data is the biggest competitive threat they face today.****
An estimated 87% of successful digital transformation projects incorporate an underlying data component.*****
The standout priority for CFOs and finance leaders is data — specifically, data governance, security and privacy, analytics and associated process improvements.******

Aligned business and IT on common metrics and their calculations
Scheduled movement of data from seven separate systems, enabling daily insight
Optimized system for sub-second response time and iterative exploration of data and scenarios
Client can now identify its most loyal customers, including those about to achieve loyalty program milestones

A large manufacturing client was struggling with launching and sustaining their overall enterprise data governance function. Several attempts to enable governance had been made, but were met with resistance from the business and distractions from acquisition activity. Lack of governance functions led to:
• Data quality issues and impacts not fully understood across the organization
• Knowledge of existing data, including lineage, metadata and master data, were not formalized within the organization
• No channel existed to get alignment on proper usage and definitions of data
Worked with the client to understand history behind prior data governance failures within the organization
Identified the core set of minimum requirements needed for improvements in business efficiencies
Executed a data governance roadmap, including implementing processes and technology
Implemented data quality scorecards to provide a window into the volume of data issues
Identified and empowered data stewards and owners to create accountability for the quality of data
Increased savings through better quality of information, including materials, vendor and customer master files
Decreased overall time to value on projects through improved reporting and analytics
Increased ownership and responsibility for data, leading to better alignment of data use with strategic outcomes
Implemented enabling technologies for data governance to help ensure ease of overall future compliance
Our Enterprise Data Governance and Data Quality solutions enhance business value through more controlled and efficient collection, distribution and use of data. A media company and large enterprise client had little to no visibility into both their travel and expense analytics and spend related to vendors and internal customers. The client was spending countless hours manually cobbling together data from many applications to gain insight into employee spending. The data would never tie together, and there was no access to detailed transactions for root cause analysis. Bottom line: mistrust in the data.
Implemented a department-wide, real-time expense and revenue reporting solution in the cloud and provided actionable information and root cause analysis on the fly.
Developed and delivered prebuilt analysis reports, with ad hoc functionality, for answering common questions; the solution design maximized available hardware and was driven from existing systems, providing vital security.
The client gained insight into expense data at the detailed GL account level for any combination of divisions or departments in near real-time
It became easy to determine the biggest policy offenders by quickly identifying outliers
Access to corporate credit card feed, booking systems, expense submissions and revenue provided a comprehensive view of the T&E habits of this client’s staff

• Identifying customer behaviors and patterns
• Enabling personalization to enhance customer experience

A leading manufacturer of heating, ventilation and air conditioning needed to quickly process more than 1,700 lease documents and extract information from large amounts of unstructured data not usually held in accounting systems in order to comply with new Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) reporting requirements for lease accounting (ASC 842). The project needed to be completed in approximately 20 weeks to meet the April 1, 2019 FASB deadline.
Created an automated document abstraction solution to quickly and accurately review lease documents.
Original scope was to locate and extract data from 700-800 leases. The team found over 1,700 leases, more than double the original estimate.
Used artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to identify and extract 92 required data elements needed for a lease accounting software package implementation.
Provided the client with an estimated 15-20% savings in overall project hours incurred
Created a 42% cost savings to review a lease and extract information by converting from a manual process to an ML solution
Accuracy of data extraction was up to 95%. Data was so accurate that client only had to do initial review of a few records and was then able to trust the technology solution
Project completed on schedule, enabling client to meet FASB deadline despite having double the number of anticipated records to be processed. The use of AI allowed acceleration of the project, which was critical to its success
A comprehensive business strategy and advanced analytics solutions can turn massive amounts of information into intelligence, enabling data-driven decision-making. We can help clients with the following:
• Analytics strategy
• Intelligent automation
• Descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics
• Use of machine learning and deep learning solutions
