Cinch the collar around your dog’s neck to find the proper fit. Thecollar fit should be snug, yet loose enough to allow one finger to fitbetween the strap and the dog’s neck. Fit is important because aloose collar may cause inconsistent performance.

THE TRANSMITTERThe Transmitter signals the electronicReceiver collar to produce a harmless,yet effective stimulation and/or tone. Theno-slip grip feels comfortable in yourhand for extended periods of training orfield time.

Transmitter Keypad Buttons

TToonnee//OOnn--OOffff – (upper right button) –When pressed, causes the Receiver toproduce a tone. No stimulation isdelivered. Thisbutton is also usedto turn the Receiver on and off.

SSttiimmuullaattiioonn (red central button)referred to as the ‘Stim button,’sends stimulation signal to thereceiver collar at the intensity shown inthe transmitter display. Transmitter DisplayThe display stays on for 30 minutes aftera button press. After 30 minutes with nobutton presses, the display shuts off.Pressing any button will cause thedisplay to turn back on.

The various symbols you might see onthe display are explained below.

Programming The TransmitterPress and hold the Progbutton until the PROG symboldisplays, then release thebutton. The Transmitter is now inProgramming mode. After allprogrammable (changeable) settings arechosen, press and release the Progbutton again to save settings and exitprogramming mode.

Turning ON the TransmitterPower up the Transmitter by pressingany button. You will see the display turnon when you press any button.

Reset All Programmable Settings

Press and at the same time toreset all programmable settings to theddeeffaauulltt sseettttiinnggss.

Transmitter Default SettingsDog 1&2 Stim Type: SSttiimm OOnnllyy (Continuous)

You can program the above options foryour Transmitter, except that the ScoutTransmitter’s Alt Stim level is notprogrammable.

Set Stim Button Stimulation LevelTo change the stimulation level for theStim button:

Press or until the desiredstimulation level is displayed. When theStim button is pressed, the Receiver willdeliver stimulation at this setting.


Program the Stim Type (Tone Option)For Ranger Transmitters, stimulation maybe delivered without a tone or with atone. The Transmitter’s default setting isStim without Tone.

To choose Stim Tone Option:

11.. Choose desired dog usingthe Dog Select button.

22.. Press and hold the Progbutton until the PROGsymbol appears in theTransmitter display. Release the Progbutton.

33.. Press and release theTone button. If you keeppressing the Tone button,the selection cycles through thesechoices:

• Stim without Tone (shows no tone symbol)

• Stim with Tone (shows a solid tone symbol)

• Double Reward (explained on the next page;shows a flashing tone symbol)

When set to Stim without Tone, theTransmitter displays only the stimlevel. For Stim with Tone, the displayshows the stim level and a solid tonesymbol. When set to Double Rewarda flashing tone symbol displays.

44.. Press and release the Prog button tosave setting and exit programming.

For additional information regarding usingthe Tone, see Training Tone Option onpage 16.


Double RewardDouble Reward is the term used when astimulation is followed by a half-seconddelay and then a half-second rewardtone.

RRaannggeerr Transmitter:

Follow Program the Stim Type directionsin the previous column to program yourRanger transmitter for Double Reward.

SSccoouutt Transmitter:

1. Choose desired dog usingthe Dog Select button.

2. Press the up arrow and at the same time until the PROGsymbol appears in the Transmitterdisplay.

3. Press to switch betweenStim without Tone and DoubleReward. (Flashing tone symbolin display means DoubleReward, no tone symbol means Stimwithout Tone.) Repeatedly pressingthe Tone button switches betweenthese two choices.

4. Press the down arrow to savesetting and exit programming.

Alternate Stimulation (Alt Stim)Some trainers depend upon instantaccess to a higher stimulation setting forcircumstances where the dog may notrespond to lower levels, such as a highdistraction environment. Your Transmitterfeatures a red, preset Alt Stim buttonthat you can use to deliver an alternate(higher) level of stimulation. Ranger andScout Alt Stim buttons are factory-set tolevel10.


OOnnllyy RRaannggeerr TTrraannssmmiitttteerrss can program adifferent stim level for the Alt Stim button.

PPrrooggrraamm tthhee AAlltt SSttiimm BBuuttttoonnTo change the stimulation level ofRanger’s Alt Stim button:

11..Press and hold until thePROG symbol is displayed.

22..Press (alt stim button).

33..Press or until you get to thedesired stimulation level.

44..When finished, press and release thebutton.



Ranger Transmitter Belt Clip1. Press down and hold the Release on

the Belt Clip.

2. Slide the Belt Clip onto the lug on theback of the Ranger Transmitter.

3. Let go of the Release and the Beltclip will stay in place on the back ofthe Transmitter. The Transmitter willswivel on the Belt Clip.

If you don’t want to use the Belt Clip,you may witsh to remove the lug on theback of the transmitter. Use a phillipshead screwdriver to remove the lug.

Battery Indicator

When the Battery Indicator shows thelow battery symbol (1/6 capacity), eitherrecharge your Ranger Transmitter soon,or replace your Scout batteries soon.When just the battery outline isdisplayed, the Transmitter’s battery isunable to power transmissions to thereceiver. Transmitter must be recharged(or Scout batteries replaced) to regainoperation.

Battery Cautions

Do not charge batteries every night. Tomaximize battery life, use the Transmitteruntil the low battery symbol (1/6capacity) displays, and use the Receivercollar until the LED light blinks red.

Cold Weather OperationIn cold temperatures (10°F or below), theliquid crystal display (LCD) on yourTransmitter may be dim or slow torespond. Wait until the display becomesvisible before selecting any trainingcommands.

Cold temperatures may lead to apremature low battery signal, so keep thetransmitter close to your body during coldweather. One way to keep the transmitterclose to your body is by using thelanyard.

UUssee tthhee LLaannyyaarrdd:: Attach the includedlanyard to the Transmitter. Slip thelanyard over your head and shoulder(above left) or position in front of you(above right) to carry your Transmitterclose to your body. Your body’s warmthwill improve cold-weather operation.

Operating RangeYour Transmitter communicates with theReceiver collar via a radio signal. Thesystem’s operating range, as stated onpackaging, is based upon line-of-sight.For maximum range, keep your fingersaway from the antenna during use, andalways keep the antenna away from allmagnets. As shown at right, hold thetransmitter upright, at or above shoulderlevel, and away from your body.

THE RECEIVERThe lightweight, comfortable electronicReceiver is integrated into a sleekfashionable collar strap your dog wears.The Receiver produces a harmless, yeteffective stimulation and can emit atraining tone. The Receiver is waterproofand is safe for your dog to wear evenwhile swimming.

CCAAUUTTIIOONN:: Your FieldProTransmitter and receiver collar

are factory sealed to be waterproof. Ifyou disassemble the case for anyreason, INNOTEK can no longer assureyou that the unit is waterproof.

The Receiver is rechargeable; theReceiver’s LED Indicator light glows redwhile charging and glows green whencharging is complete.

The Receiver uses the LED to let youknow its status. Refer to the ReceiverStatus Indicators table on the next page.

Power UpTo turn the Receiver ON or OFF, holdthe Receiver within one inch of theTransmitter antenna as shown in theQuick Start Guide. Be careful, do nottouch the metal contacts that touch yourdog’s skin. Press the Tone/ON/OFF button. When turningON, the Receiver’s light will show batterycharge level (green, amber, or red).

This ON/OFF command only works

when the Transmitter and Receiver areclose together; it will not work at adistance. Never turn the system on or offwhile your dog is wearing the collar

Auto Shut OffWhen the Receiver is on and doesn’treceive a command from the Transmitterfor 6 straight hours, it will automaticallyshut itself off. This INNOTEK featuresaves Receiver battery power for fieldwork, rather than using it up being idle.Follow Power Up instructions (bottom ofprevious column) to turn on yourReceiver again.

ReadyTest™ Self-TestWhen you remove the Receiver from thecharging cradle, it automatically goesinto ReadyTest™ (a diagnostic self-test)for 5 seconds. The Receiver’s internaldiagnostics check the battery chargelevel (the Receiver LED light indicatesbattery charge level) and checks that allcircuits are working. Do not touch themetal contacts during this test. Touchingthe contacts after removing the Receiverfrom the charging cradle may causeReadyTest™ to fail. ReadyTest™ gives youconfidence that your Receiver is workingproperly, and is ready to go. After theReceiver passes ReadyTest™, it shutsitself off. If ReadyTest™ fails, the unitmakes a 20-second tone, the LEDglows solid red for 20-seconds, andthen shuts off. A Receiver that failsReadyTest™ will not respond to theTransmitter’s commands. To retest theReceiver, place the Receiver back onthe charger for 5 seconds, then removeit. DDoo nnoott ttoouucchh tthhee mmeettaall ccoonnttaaccttss.. If theunit repeatedly continues to fail, call usat 11--880000--882266--55552277.

Fitting the Collar and Receiver

The collar strap should fit snugly towardsthe top of your dog’s neck with thereceiver on the bottom of the neck.

Check that the INNOTEK® logo is rightside up. You should be able to get onefinger between the collar strap and yourdog’s neck. The contacts must touchthe dog’s skin for proper operation. Alittle hair thinning may be required. DDoonnoott sshhaavvee yyoouurr ddoogg’’ss nneecckk..

Occasionally, check the tightness of thecontacts to ensure they will not be lostfrom the Receiver. Lost parts are notcovered under your warranty.

Trim excess strap. You’ll want to leaveabout 2 inches of excess strap. NNoottee ifyour dog is young and you expect it togrow, you’ll want to leave extra strap toallow for future collar fastening.Replacement straps are available. Callus at 11--880000--882266--55552277.

NNoottee:: Dogs’ coats are as unique as dogsthemselves. You may wish to try thelonger contacts if your dog has a veryheavy coat. Be certain your dog can feelstimulation before training begins.

Two Dog SystemsIf you wish to add another receiver collarto the training system, accessoryreceiver collars are available where youbought your training system, or call us at11--880000--882266--55552277.

Using the first Receiver collar, set yourTransmitter to Dog 1 and turn it on withthe Tone button. Set the first Receivercollar down. Holding the secondReceiver collar, set your Transmitter toDog 2, and turn on Receiver collar Two.The Transmitter will send a signal to theDog symbol appearing in theTransmitter’s display. To switch betweenReceiver collars, simply press the DogSelect button until the desired dogsymbol displays.

Testing the ReceiverIn order to make sure the Receiver isgetting signals from the Transmitter, youmay wish to test the Receiver from timeto time.

To test:11.. Hold the included Test Light across

the Receiver’s contacts. (Refer tothe illustration at the bottom of thiscolumn, the holes in the Test Lightgo over the contact tips; make surethe wire inside the hole touches thecontact tip.)

22.. Press the Stimulation button on theTransmitter.

33.. The Test Light lights up. Theintensity of the Test Light dependson the stimulation level. The light isdim for low stimulation levels and isbrighter for higher stimulation levels.

TRAININGAlways start training your dog with thelowest stimulation, and increase to ahigher level only if necessary. You willknow when you’ve reached the rightlevel when your dog responds bytwitching his head, neck, or shoulders,or by perking up his ears. If the dogvocalizes, you need to go to a lowerlevel.

When Ranger is in CCoonnttiinnuuoouuss mode,you control the duration of thestimulation by the length of time youpress the Stimulation button. For a shortstimulation, press and release thebutton. For a longer stimulation, hold thebutton down. A maximum of 10seconds of Receiver stimulation may beapplied before the safety lockout feature((OOvveerr--ssttiimmuullaattiioonn pprrootteeccttiioonn,, sseeee bbeellooww))starts.

When Ranger is in MMoommeennttaarryy mode,each stim button press (Stim or Alt Stim)produces one stim at the Receiver collar.Release the stim button in order todeliver another momentary (nick, or brieftap) stim.

Over-Stimulation ProtectionThe Transmitter can transmit continuously(Tone or Stim) for up to 10 seconds. Ifyou attempt to transmit continuously formore than 10 seconds, the transmitterenters a 10 second lockout mode duringwhich time no transmissions are allowed.

Receiver contacts touchwires inside these holes.

Light


Training Tone OptionThe Tone button causes the collar toproduce a sound. No stimulation isdelivered when the Tone button ispressed. The tone continues for as longas the button is held down, up to 10seconds. A tone can help strengthen adog’s response to training. The tone canbe used as a warning tone prior topressing the stimulation button; or canbe a reward tone when presented withpraise, play, or food for good behavior.

The use of a training tone is optional. Itsuse varies among popular trainingmethods. Some trainers choose to usethe tone option as a warning tone priorto stimulation, others prefer to use thetone option as a reward tone, and stillothers prefer to not use it at all. It isimperative for successful dog training touse the tone option consistently through-out the training process. Whether thetone will mean reward or warning to yourdog is up to the training method yyoouucchhoooossee.

Remember: the training toneCANNOT be both a warning tone

and a reward tone. To learn more abouttone training, consult a qualified dogtraining professional.

Training Tips• Watch the included DVD to get the

basics for training your dog properlywith a remote training system.

• We recommend your dog be at leastsix months old before starting aremote training system program.

• Always praise your dog for goodbehavior!

• Teach him what the commands meanbefore introducing the Receiver collaras a reinforcement tool.

• Keep training sessions brief, about tenminutes of training and then a rest orplay period of at least equal length.

• Dogs learn through repetition. Youmay have better training success ifyou can elicit an undesired behaviorwhen you can anticipate it. Forexample, if the dog misbehaves andjumps on visitors, have someonecome in and out of the front doorseveral times over a half-hour period.You’ll be expecting it and will be readyto teach your dog the right behavior.

• Always end a training session on apositive note. Let the dog havesuccess. This way he’ll look forward tothe next session.

• Training should be fun for both youand your dog. Never train when youare angry. If you get frustrated duringtraining, stop and come back to itlater. Your dog will learn better whenyou are both relaxed.


• The goal of training is to condition yourdog to respond to your verbalcommands in all situations. Youshould plan on using the Receivercollar for at least four months. A goodrule is, once started with a remotetraining system, to regularly have theReceiver collar on when you take thedog out. This will ensure that he willalways be imprinted with the correctresponse to your commands and that

you are always in control.

Component Care1. Use a soft damp cloth to clean the

Transmitter and Receiver.

2. Do not use alcohol or cleaningsolutions to clean the Transmitter andReceiver.

3. Dry the Transmitter and Receiver witha dry, lint-free cloth should they getwet.

4. Remove (Scout) batteries duringlong-term storage.

TROUBLESHOOTINGIf the Transmitter and Receiver appear tobe not working, try the following:

• Adjust the collar strap to fit better.

• Test the Receiver using the Test Light(Instructions are on page 16). If nolight, recharge the Receiver’s battery.

• If the Transmitter display is off, first trypressing any button. If the displayremains off, recharge the RangerTransmitter or replace ScoutTransmitter batteries.

• Carefully turn on the components asshown in the Quick Start Guide(beginning of this manual).

• Check that the Receiver contacts areproperly tightened.

• Ensure that the Receiver contacts aretouching the dog’s skin.

• If necessary, trim the dog’s hair or usethe longer contacts to ensure properskin contact. Never shave the dog’sneck.

• Try a stronger stimulation level.

2. This system is intended for use onlyon dogs. Never attempt to use it forany purpose not described in thismanual.

3. Keep out of the reach of children

4. Never perform set-up procedureswhile the Receiver collar is on yourdog.

5. Any collar worn for extendedperiods can cause a condition similarto bedsores, known as PressureNecrosis. To reduce the possibility,you must do the following:

• Never leave the collar on the dog formore than 12 hours per day.

• Examine the dog’s neck daily for anysigns of a rash or a sore.

• Supervise your dog during the first 2days of training.

• Check the fit to prevent excessivepressure; you should be able toinsert one finger between the collarstrap and your dog’s skin.

• Wash the dog’s neck area and thecontacts of the collar weekly with awashcloth and mild hand soap; rinsethoroughly.

• If the condition persists beyond 24hours, consult your veterinarian.

6. Metal tags and collars should beremoved when using the receivercollar as they may interfere withproper operation.

7. Do not attempt to dismantle or repairany components of this system; doingso wwiillll vvooiidd tthhee wwaarrrraannttyy iinn ffuullll..

8. Realize that because dogs haveunique temperament, there is no wayof knowing how your dog will react tothe introduction of a remote trainingsystem. For the safety of your dog, along lead should be used during initialtraining so you have complete controlof the situation.

9. If you have reason to believe that yourdog may pose a danger to others,harm itself, or react adversely to thecollar, do not rely solely on thisproduct to train your dog. If your dogshows signs of growling, snarling, orbiting while using the collar, stopimmediately. Aggression in dogs hasmany causes. We recommend thatyou consult a knowledgeableprofessional dog trainer or animalbehaviorist who has experience withaggressive dogs if your dog hasshown any of these characteristics.

10. Occasionally, a dog cannot betrained to respond to a remotetraining collar. Sometimes even aproperly trained dog may disobey acommand. Therefore, INNOTEK, Inc.,its distributors, and dealers cannotguarantee that the system will in allcases keep the customer’s dog fromdisobeying commands.

11. To maintain maximum range, keepthe Transmitter antenna away from allmagnets, especially the very strongmagnet in the Receiver’s chargingcradle.
