From the Desk of the Director of Golf:Valued Members, It’s that time of year again…..time to show off our Resort and the Famed Copperhead Course to millions around the globe! I couldn’t be more excited about the conditions of the golf course. The team has been working nonstop, around the clock to get the golf course in pristine condition! Their hard work will be evident come Thursday, March 9th for the opening round of the Valspar Championship presented by BB&T.

Other exciting news is that Bubba Watson is returning to play for the first time since 2011. I personally think the Copperhead fits his game perfectly and would love to see him at the top of the Leader board come Sunday.

Finally, as a thank you for your support throughout the year, we will be having an “End of Season” Member Appreciation Merchandise Sale at the Osprey Golf Shop on Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9. This is our way of saying thank you for everything you do for us and our Club. I look forward to see everyone during Tournament Week!

Edible Martinis All serves four

Tuna Martinis

To prepare tuna:Cut tuna into ½ inch cubes. Place in a stainless bowl, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Whisk curry paste, ginger, cilantro and oil together. Just before serving, toss tuna into curry mixture. Serve in chilled martini glasses and garnish with popcorn.

Ceviche Martini

To prepare Ceviche:Create marinated by blending together all ingredients except the seafood. Dice the snapper into ¼ inch cubes. Add snapper and scallops to marinade. Cover and refrigerated for 2-1/2 hours. Serve in chilled martini glasses.

Written and photographed by Golf Operations Dave NoelEarly in December I found a female Great-Horned Owl that had occupied an Osprey nest. She sat in the nest almost motionless for over six weeks. Then she began to move around and I knew the eggs had hatched. Two is the norm for baby owls but this nest now has three cute owlets. Mom is always nearby either in the nest or on a nearby branch. I have seen Red-Shouldered and Sharp-Skinned Hawks scream as they fly over the nest. They quickly move on as these owls are no match with razor sharp talons. The Ospreys have given up the nest and are no threat as they are only fish eaters. The young owls are exercising their wings daily and it won’t be long before we have take off.

The female is busy hunting from nearby branches in the early morning and at dusk. During the day she teaches the young owls "limbing", which includes jumping from limb to limb. The nest is located about 60 feet high in a pine tree. The young owls enjoy standing and looking at the world below. The last few months I have enjoyed looking back up at them almost every day watching them grow. We have stare down and even head bobbing contests. The mother is not amused. Sometime in March when their wings are strong they will take off for the woods. Listen at night and you will probably hear them.
