Functions: coordination, balance
Brainstem Functions:
most basic functions of life (reflexes, breathing, heart rate, sleep), connects the brain to the rest of the body through spinal cord
THE LIMBIC SYSTEM
Thalamus (part of Limbic System)
Functions: relaying of sensory and motor signals, consciousness, alertness
Hypothalamus (part of Limbic System)
Functions: body temperature, hunger, sexual behavior, thirst, fatigue
Hippocampus (part of Limbic System)
Functions: formation of memory, spatial navigation
Cognitive Map
Amygdala (part of Limbic System)
Functions: negative emotions (particularly fear, rage, and violence)
