Aims

• Create a short mixed media animation, CGI with 2D elements,possibly a series of mini pieces

• Humour juxtaposed with a grim or bleak situation

• Use humour to my advantage, and explore new ways of makingpeople laugh.

• Looking at medieval times for influence in style and narrative, Ifound that many medieval stories or art revolves around fightingand battles. I found my ideas heading in this direction too as thiswould be a perfect setting for black humour.

Learning outcomes

• To experiment with CG and making it look less rigid and giving it a more textural and tactile feel.

• To apply animation theory to my work and see if I can gain a better insight on character led

animation and narrative.

• By doing this I hope to achieve a better understanding of comedy and how it affects people

• I will further my skills in CG animation using a variety of resources; tutors, books, websites, forums,

blogs, training seminars. I am already skilled in the basics but using these skills in a production

process will enhance my abilities further.

• To improve my editing skills and use of film language, as well as get a better understanding of the

different aspects of constructing animation.

Black humour • Black humour applies horror to one of the principles that is used a lot in comedy,

it's funny if it's happening to someone else, as long as it's not us.

• "the audience never sees the implications of the destruction for those who

experience it or live within it." Paul Wells

• I got the idea of war and it’s immediate results/consequences when reading

about Tom and Jerry cartoons, and how they destroy the domestic environment

they live in, without any real consequence. I realized this could be seen as an

exaggerated view on humans, with war, global warming etc.

The people that cleanup after the war

• Motherly figures?

Ideas

• Who cleans up?

• Who is responsible?

• Who buries the bodies?

• Do they resemble mothers cleaning up after some boys have made a mess?• Vacuuming the battlefield?

• Painting bloodstained things back to their original colour (branches etc)

• Positioning recently deceased so they can be made into effigies

• Could be talking about completely non-related things like old ladies gossiping

• Stuffing a man into a coffin prematurely, him complaining he’s still alive.
