Aim and Purpose

•To present my initial ideas to the class so that they can help me decide which genre of music I should base my magazine on.

Page 3: Initial Ideas

Pop/chart• Audience: 13-19 years old, female,

attends college or school, low income (part time job or pocket money).

• House Style: colour scheme of pinks, reds and whites; large, bubbly and easy to read fonts; language style is informal and not too “wordy”. Layout - quite busy with lots of features and smaller stories and coverlines to attract the audience.

• Features: a day in the life, interview, album/single reviews.

• Images to include: The cover will feature an image of a female “role model” for the target audience to attract attention and also smaller pictures related to other stories. Contents page may feature pictures of the inside stories

Alternative/Mainstream Rock

• Audience: 16+ years old, mainly male, more intelligent/educated, medium income with quite a good job.

• House style: red, black and white colour scheme; language used is formal and of a certain intellectual standard. Layout is organised and clear which makes it look more of an intelligent read. It will feature some coverlines either side of the main image.

• Features: interviews, album/singles/live reviews, history of a band.

• Images to include: a main image on the cover of a male they can relate to or a woman that has sex-appeal. Contents page will also have a main image relating to one of the inside stories. The story or features inside will also have a few pictures of the band it is about.

Heavy rock• Audience: 13-25 years old, both

genders, attends school or college/uni. Has a low income from a part time job or pocket money. Has a reasonable level of intelligence.

• House style: colour scheme of black, white, yellow, red and blue. Layout is not overly messy but features enough to attract an audience.

• Features: interviews, album/singles/live reviews, posters, band updates.

• Images to include: a main image of the band or artist that the audience can relate to or are attracted to/interested in. Contents would have a few small images relating to the inside stories.

Feedback•Country gal: preferred

Alternative/Mainstream Rock. Said I should do something like the Q magazine cover that includes popular music but with a rock-edge. Make it have a “vogue” edge.

•Furby: preferred Alternative/Mainstream Rock. Said I should make it more appealing to females as well as males.

•Zizi: preferred Alternative/Mainstream Rock because I had the most ideas for it.

Final decision•I have decided to do an

Alternative/Mainstream Rock magazine.

•I have take into consideration the feedback from my peers and am going to make the magazine appealing to both genders and it will include some other mainstream artists that are not necessarily rock but have a rock edge. I think there is a niche in the market for a magazine like this that appeals to both genders.
