TRADITIONAL HEALING FOR POSTPARTUM DISCOMFORTS WITH HERBS, WATER AND SALVES
RECIPE Medicinal Postpartum Ba`th
Ready in 2 ½ hours
Serves 1 person
Action perineum healing/pain relief
Ingredients ● Sage, raspberry, lemon,
● Comfrey, lemon, Rosemary
● Verbena, peppermint, rosewater
Preparation 1. Place 1 cup of each herb in 1 gallon. Bring to
a boil for 1 minute.
2. Remove from heat. Let decoction sit for 1-2 hours.
3. Strain and add to additional bath water in a tub being careful not to over dilute. Or strain water into plastic jug or similar.
4. Save herbs in plastic bowl or container,
5. Mom should soak for at least 20 minutes to allow healing to perineum.

RECIPE Hemorrhoids Compress

Action Hemorrhoids-pain relief
Ingredients ● Saint Johns Wort, Shepherd's Purse
● Witch hazel, Parsley
● Plantain leaf, Sage
Preparation 1. Bring 6 cups water to a boil and remove from
heat.
2. Pour hot water into ceramic bowl. Ad 3 tablespoons of each ingredient and insert into ceramic bowl.
3. Let tea steep until cool.
4. Soak a clean piece of fabric/cotton material in the tea and squeeze excess tea out of the clot
5. Place soaked cloth (compress) on affected area for relief.
6. Do not reuse cloth.

RECIPE Soothing Nipple Salve

Ingredients ● 2 fl. oz Lanolin
● 2 fl. oz Calendula Infused Olive Oil
● 1 Tbsp Chopped Beeswax (or beeswax pearls)
● 2 tsp Vitamin E
Preparation 1. Chop Beeswax if necessary
2. Combine all the ingredients together in a heat safe measuring cup and place in a double boiler on low.
3. Warm the salve until all the beeswax is melted, stirring frequently.
4. Pour into clean, dry containers.
5. Allow the salve to cool before placing the lids on the containers.

● 1 cup uva ursi
● 1 cup shepherds purse
● ¼ cup rosemary powder
● 1 cup salt

Calendula Compress
Ready in 30 min
Serves 1-2 persons
Action Perineum Care
Ingredients ● 2 tsp Dried Calendula Flowers
● 1 cup water
Preparation
1. Use tea ball and allow the flowers to steep in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes.

2. Combine ingredients and boil for 1-2 minutes. Let Steep for 10min, then strain. ( Methods Vary)
3. Soak a clean piece of fabric/cotton material in the tea and squeeze excess tea out of the cloth
4. Place soaked cloth (compress) on affected area for relief.
5. Do not reuse cloth.

Nettle Tea for Postpartum Fatigue

Ingredients ● 1 tea bag or 2 tsp nettle herb
● ⅔ cup boiling water
Preparation
1. Place tea bag or loose leaf/herb in a drinking vessel.
2. Bring ⅔ cup water to a boil.
3. Pour boiling water over tea.
4. Let steep 10 min.
5. Moms should drink tea twice daily
*Nettle needs to be taken for a few months to get the most benefits.

RECIPE Clogged Milk Duct Poultice
Ready in 15-20 min
Serves 1-2
Action Resolving CLogged Milk Duct
Ingredients ● 2 tbsp Burdock Root, Yarrow
● 2 tbsp Lavender
● 2 tbsp Slippery Elm or Marshmallow Root
● Organic cheesecloth or cloth for covering
Preparation
1. Place ingredients in ceramic bol or pot. Bring 6 cup water to a boil in separate pot or kettle.
2. Pour boiling water over ingredients and let steep for 10-15min.
3. When cool enough to touch, apply herbs as a poultice using organic cheesecloth or cloth for covering.
4. Keep the poultice on until it cools. Reapply throughout the day.
*If infection is present, a clean poultice or cloth should be used every time.
Tips Use a nursing a pad in place of cheesecloth.

RECIPE Mama’s Bottom Salve
Ready in 4 Hours

Action speed recovery from stitches/tearing/swelling
Ingredients
● 2 oz. Olive Oil and 2 oz. Jojoba Oil
● 2 tsp Beeswax Pellets and 1 tsp Shea Butter
● 1 tsp vitamin E oil ( or 1 capsule)
● 1 tbsp each dried herb:
Plantain Powder, Calendula Powder, Witch Hazel
Leaf, St. John’s Wort, Yarrow, Lavender and Mint
● 1 Sterile glass jar with lid
Preparation (Infusion) 1. Combine all herbs ( 1 tbsp each), olive oil
and jojoba oil in double boiler. (Place herbs and oil in Pyrex container or smaller pot, over top of a large pot with water about ¼ full.)
2. Bring water to a boil, then simmer for 30min. Let cool until infusion can be handled.
3. Place three layers of cheesecloth over top of a funnel or atop a bowl. Pour the infused oils over cheesecloth to strain oil and keep herbs separated.
4. Once drained, gather the cheesecloth with your clean, dry hands and squeeze out the remaining oil.
5. Place beeswax pellets, shea butter and vitamin E in a pan over low heat, and pour the infused oil over top and melt together.
6. Once the beeswax and oil have combined, pour the mixture into sterile glass and refrigerate for 10-25 minutes to determine the solidification of the salve.
