SPECIALTY SOLUTIONS DIVISION Data Capture/POS Solutions Transportation and Logistics Earn More Margin With Data Capture/POS The world of transportation and logistics spans many technologies. Data capture and point of sale applications are essential to efficient solutions within this market. By adopting certain questions into your conversations with transportation and logistics customers, you can open up a new technology window that provides higher-margin revenue with minimum effort. And here’s some good news: You don’t have to be certified or authorized to sell many of this technology segment’s products. Transportation and Logistics Market in 2013 The transportation and logistics market includes route accounting, direct store delivery, work-force management and courier services. The most useful and cost-effective product used with all of these solutions is a mobile computer that’s used to scan a barcode, verify delivery and capture a customer’s signature as proof-of-delivery. Complementary products will often include a rugged mobile printer to print a customer receipt at the point of delivery. Discovering an Opportunity Incorporate these simple questions into your conversations with end customers to uncover untapped margin potential: • Are you using a barcode system to verify delivery of your products and services? An opening question should be aimed to see if your customer needs replacement terminals for their field service team. Current models have capabilities such as reading 2-D barcodes, GPS positioning, bread crumbing and cellular network connectivity. • Do you have GPS in your data terminals? Many compa- nies appreciate the ability to have GPS positioning as a rout- ing tool for their drivers and to effectively manage their fleet during the day. • Are you doing any mobile printing of customer receipts? Rugged mobile printers print receipts, invoices and product- delivery manifests at end-user sites and are an integral part of any field-service direct-store delivery (DSD) solution. If they need mobile printers, there’s a good chance they also need a terminal refresh. Transportation and Logistics 101 Here are some common product sets and descriptions of each: • Rugged mobile data terminals—Mobile barcode terminals that identify inventory items by reading a barcode or an RFID tag. Communication to the network is completed via WLAN or cellular network to provide real-time data transfer. • Barcode scanners—Industrial barcode scanners connected to a host PC used to ID the product. • Mobile Bluetooth printers—A rugged mobile barcode printer used in the field to print labels from a command generated by the rugged mobile data terminal. • Barcode printers—Printers that print labels containing the SKU-level information on the inventory products to be delivered and sold to the customer. • Barcode labels and tags—Printed barcode labels that are affixed to the stock item for barcode scanning purposes. Earn More Margin With Data Capture/POS

The world of transportation and logistics spans many technologies.

Transportation and Logistics Market in 2013The transportation and logistics market includes route accounting, direct store delivery, work-force management and courier services. The most useful and cost-effective product used with all of these solutions is a mobile computer that’s used to scan a barcode, verify delivery and capture a customer’s signature as proof-of-delivery. Complementary products will often include a rugged mobile printer to print a customer receipt at the point of delivery.
