Global Connect is… an original educational partnership developed by UC Irvine’s
School of Social Sciences to enrich California’s secondary school curriculum in international studies.
addressing California's History/Social Studies Curriculum Framework and the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies.
a high school social science course that introduces students to the forces, events, individuals and issues that define the increasing interaction and interdependence of the people and nations of our 21st century world.
History of Global Connect GC was created in Fall 2001 with Vice Chancellor Manual Gomez
and the School of Social Sciences. Primary Objective: Create a University – secondary school bridge to address
the international studies gap in California secondary schools
GC was originally a 25 lesson per-year outreach program taught at various AVID and Social Science classrooms.
In Spring 2008, an academic elective one-semester course was created.
Now, GC is a year-long “Globalization and International Relations” course. Approved by the UC registrar as a A-G academic elective for honors and
college preparatory courses
