Values Truth, Justice, Community Overview of Position The Director of Junior School is a member of the College Leadership Team. The Director will provide visionary and strategic leadership of the Junior School for students, staff and parents. They will actively support positive transition and progression through the primary years and provide leadership in the wellbeing, learning and care of Junior School students. The Director of Junior School does not have a timetabled teaching load. Leadership of Learning and Learning Support are integral elements of this role. Key Working Relationships The successful applicant will need to work closely with the following: • Principal • Leadership Team • Director: Student Wellbeing • Director: Teaching and Learning • Learning Area Leaders Key Responsibilities • Foster an environment of care and wrap around support for all Junior School students • Engage with a contemporary understanding of best approaches to support the growth,

    learning and wellbeing of girls in the primary years • Connect with up to date research, programs and professional development

    opportunities to keep the Junior School team current and responsive to the ever-changing needs of students

    • Lead and model the daily implementation of our commitment to restorative justice and positive education and support the junior school teaching team to do the same

    • Actively engage with parents, caregivers and families with regard to student development and wellbeing

  • • Respond to individual student needs employing the College Wrap Around Approach

    working holistically with counsellors as required. • Lead and manage the provision of learning support for Junior School students including

    oversight of parent communication, review meetings, transition needs, classroom support and NCCD data collection

    • Take a lead role in interviews, transition programs and parent evenings for all students • Lead the design, implementation and ongoing review of the Reception - Year 6 Care

    Education program • Collaborate with the APRIM to provide religious leadership in the Junior School through

    prayer, liturgies, masses and the retreat program • Promote Junior School student activities and achievements via

    newsletter/website/social media • Collaborate with year level teachers in coordinating and leading Junior School camps • Communicate to all Junior School Care Group and Subject teachers about student needs • Prepare and administer annual Junior School budget • Monitor wellbeing data of Junior School students including lateness and attendance • Liaison with the College Events Coordinator in regard to Junior School events • Coordinate Junior School events and camps with other key staff Essential Personal and Professional Skills (for all teaching staff) The successful applicant will need to: • Actively support and contribute to the Catholic identity and Dominican ethos of St Mary's

    College. • Create a positive culture for student wellbeing with an emphasis on Restorative Practices

    and Positive Education. • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing development as a learner and reflective

    practitioner. • Demonstrate a commitment to working collaboratively within a learning community. • Have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills in order to build positive

    relationships with colleagues, students and families. • Appropriately assist students who are hurt, sick or in distress. • Operate in accordance with the Code of Conduct, for staff employed in Catholic

    Education SA, the Charter for Teachers in SA Catholic Schools and the AITSL Standards for Teachers.

    • Use the College Learning Management System SEQTA as a tool for learning design, assessment and communication with students, parents and carers

    • Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time including record keeping. • Undertake supervision duties including yard duty diligently. • Participate in staff meetings, Sub-School and Learning Area meetings and other

    designated College activities. • Support the broader school culture through involvement in College activities. • Complete CEA commitments as outlined in the Enterprise Agreement. • Accept delegated responsibilities as negotiated. • Understand the employer’s requirements and act in accordance with the South

    Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) and the College’s policies, guidelines and procedures.

    Other Conditions • This position is subject to a satisfactory police clearance to work in Catholic schools and

    other screening clearances and ongoing satisfactory police checks at regular intervals as requested throughout your employment

    • Catholic Education SA requirements for Mandatory Reporting and First Aid will need to be completed and maintained.

  • Additional requirements • Current teacher’s registration. • Screening clearance to work in Catholic Education SA. • Teacher accreditation in Catholic Education SA. • Relevant first aid training. • ‘Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum’ training. • Approved ‘Responding to Abuse and Neglect’ qualifications. • Annual sign off is required for:

    Work Health & Safety (WHS) Role This role is deemed to be a Worker under the South Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2012.
