HP AXDSIPC now supports HP Intelligent Graphics Controller 10

H P AXDSIPC is an accelerated X Win- dow System display server software package that now supports the H P Intel- ligent Graphics Controller 10. A much lower PC upgrade cost (compared to the previous version of H P AXDSIPC) is possible since H P AXDSIPC now will support a standard 640x480 VGA monitor.

Features

H P AXDSIPC provides the PC user with interactive access to UNIX system based window applications on remote multivendor systems across a local-area network. With support now for the H P Intelligent Graphics Controller 10. color monitors with resolutions of 640x480 (VGA), 800x600, and 1024x768 will operate with HP AXDSIPC.

Benefits

H P AXDSIPC bridges the gap between DOS and UNIX system environments. It provides similar functionality to an X-Terminal in addition to allowing the user "warm key" access to the DOS operating system.

For users that currently have an H P Vectra P C (or PC-AT compatible), H P AXDSIPC provides a cost-effective means of upgrading and linking the PC into a multivendor computing environment.

Positioning

Stand-alone - The Model 45 can operate as an entry-level stand-alone X.25 switch routing and concentrating data traffic from H P 3000. H P 9000, H P 233415 PAD, DTC, and multivendor systems to a public X.25 network or over a leased line. The integrated PAD capabilities allow H P and IBM systems running IBM applications with the SNAISDLC protocol to communicate over an X.25 network, thus bringing the complementary benefits of X.25 to SNA environments.

Small net, twrk - Several Model 45 sys- tems can be interconnected to form a small X.25 network, thus improving multivendor connectivity and H P account control for customers with several dispersed sites.

HP PPN crcress - As part of the H P Private Packet Network ( H P PPN) family, the Model 45 can function as a cost-effective multivendor access switchlPAD for remote sites feeding an H P PPN or other private backbone network. thus extending the overall H P PPN solution.

Product overview

The Model 45 is an X.25 switching node and multiprotocol PAD providing simple multivendor networking. Built on an H P platform, i t consists of one or more 4-port multiprotocol Line Proces- sor (LP) cards supporting X.25. SNAI SDLC, and asynchronous protocols. In addition. one lower-cost 4-port asyn- chronous expansion card (asynchronous ports only) is available. Two versions of the Model 45 are available depending on the required modularity. The Desk- top version (PIN J2000A) supports con- figurations from 4 to 12 ports. and the Tower version (PIN J2001A) which sup- ports configurations from 4 to 20 ports.

In addition to providing X.25 switching (150 packets per secondl4-port card) functionality. the Model 45 has an integral SNAISDLC PAD. This facili- tates comnlunication between remote SNA control units and an SNA host processor over an X.25 network. It also features an integral asynchronous PAD enabling communication between remote terminals o r printers to one or more central computers over an X.25 network. Unlike many competing products, which have whole systcn~s or whole cards dedicated to one protocol. individual ports on the Model 45 can be configured as an X.25 port. a SNAISDLC PAD port. o r an asyn- chronous PAD port.

Control and management of local or remote Model 45 systems can be per- formed via an attached monitor and keyboard (PIN J30CVA) or using an ANSI terliiinal.

HP LAN Manager/X for HP 9000 systems

In the past two to three years, there has been an increasing need for inte- grating personal computers running DOS or OSl2 with computers running the UNIX operating system. With the advent of OSl2 LAN Manager, Hlewlett-Packard and Microsoft saw a!n opportunity to use the same technol- ogy in the mixed PC-UNIX system environment.

H[P, in partnership with Microsoft, jointly developed the LAN Manager technology on a standard UNIX system platform. At the same time, HP put LAN ManagerIX on its HP 9000 family of computers running HP-UX (both the Series 300 and the Series 800 plat- forms). HP LAN ManagerIX provides easy integration of PC workstations with the HP 9000 system. From a user's perspective. accessing a LAN ManagerIX server is identical to accessing a LAN Manager OSl2 server.

H[P LAN ManagerIX can increase work group productivity in both the technical and the commercial markets. The new powerful 80286 and 386 workstations irtcreasingly are being found in engi- neering environments where a UNIX system has been widely used. At the same time, UNIX system platforms have become accepted as replacements for other midrange computers in the commercial market, where PC usage is very high.

HIP LAN ManagerIX extends the capabilities of the clientlserver model b:y allowing PC users access to the resources on the HP-UX computers. LAN ManagerIX integrates with other components of AdvanceNet , such as TCPIIP. NFS, and X.400 and it will be migrated to support OSI transports as they become available on the HP 9000 platform.

Page 19: Information For Hewlett-Packard's Value-Added Businesses

HP LAN ManageriX complements other HP PC networking products. such as HP ARPA Services 2.01 MS-DOS and HP Network Services 2.0IMS-DOS. Lan ManageriX is backward compatible with existing Officeshare and HP 3000 NewWave Office networks.

Key features

Wide range of servers allows users to choose the best server to meet their needs.

' Network file sharing reduces the number of copies and increases data integrity and consistency.

Network peripheral sharing to share expensive peripherals instead of dedicating them to each PC.

Comprehensive spooler saves con- siderable administrative and user time and increases user productivity

' Standard Application Program lnter- faces (APIs) - program development tools enable application developers to write applications across DOS, OS12, and HP-UX.

' Industry-standard transports and links to allow users to invest in systems that best meet their needs.

Open architecture - LAN Manager has been endorsed by such major ven- dors as IBM, AT&T, DEC, SCO. and many others.

' Backward compatibility to Office- Share and HP 3000 NewWave Office protects users' investment.

Sophisticated network administration and management tools to reduce the administrator's efforts and increases overall users' productivity.

Compatibility with HP LAN Manager for OSi2, HP Network Services 2.0IMS-DOS, and HP ARPA Services 2.0IMS-DOS increases productivity by allowing easy access to multiple computers.
