Anybody can comment on anything – No gatekeepers anymore (death of expertise?) – Trolling – With what intent?

Information spreads: Instantly Globally In enormous amounts With almost no cost…
«Top» has lost the monopoly in spreading the information!
New technologies de facto empowered the individuals, and lower level institutions to communicate
Therefore TRUST is what the state have to preserve
Can we control it?

What can we get out from the cloud?

Trend – comparing different varuables in time and space
Network – looking at relationships
Sentiment – analysis of feelings, attitudes, emotions
Behavioural – website visitation, browsing and interactions
Geo–location – identifying location where activities are taking place
Content – analysis of topics, keywords, expressions – what is said and why
Crowdsourcing - to check the facts, unmask disinformation or identify developments of the conflict (supporting digital forensic)
This is what our adversaries can [and do] collect about us as well…

All actions, lethal and non-lethal, have an effect on the information environment, either in a positive manner, in closing the say-do gap, or negatively by contradicting the message to audiences within and outside the Joint Operations Area.

Our adversaries will always exploit situations when our words are contradicting our actions!
They do collect and use the information when needed…

Understand that our operations have their own body-language and exploit it wisely
Educate and empower the personnel (if educated and trained) but do not forget to control it…
Information environment demands precise actions in line with the national/alliance’s narrative
If not, it will be used against us instantly… The war is already ongoing
and is conducted primarily against our understanding and will, so we must protect it!
The main role of StratCom is to guard the understanding of national values and narrative from outside influence
