FOREWORD NPSB

Dear athletes and members of delegations, dear o� cials,

Welcome to the 4th EPC handball for police women 2014. Welcome to the Netherlands, welcome to the Dutch National Police, to the Dutch Police Sports Federation (NPSB) and welcome to The Hague. We hope to present you an unfor-gettable week of sports. It is our desire to let sportsmanship, good fellowship, fair play and a healthy ambition to win the tournament go hand in hand. Let it be the central theme of this week.

While writing this foreword, my mind goes back to a short � lm of the Amsterdam police. This � lm shows the relation between sports and our work. In the � lm, handball is com-pared to active police service in Amsterdam on a café terrace. In the � rst part of the � lm, a handball player passes her opponent by using subtle, agile en quick movements. She leaps and scores. In the next part you see the same handball player in police uniform pursuing a suspect, running, turning and twisting between the chairs and tables of the Amsterdam café terrace. Focused on chasing her goal, the suspect in this case. Along with the background music, it is an inspiring moment.

This is exactly what the NPSB stands for: connecting sport with our daily job in aid of helping our employees achieve their goals on a regu-lar workday. Our profession requires � t and healthy people. A strong and healthy mind in a strong and � t body.

For this reason we are proud that USPE entrusted us with the organisation of the EPChandball 2014. This enables us to be a fundamental part of the � tness of the participating policewomen and it also gives us the opportunity to strengthen our bonds with ourcolleagues from abroad. We are fully aware that with the problems of modern society,international contacts and cooperation with police organisations abroad are of increasing importance.

I wish to thank everyone for coming to the Netherlands to participate and also all those involved with the organisation of this event. Good luck to all and may the best team win keeping fair play in mind!

FOREWORD USPE

Dear athletes, friends and guests,

I welcome you on behalf of the Union Sportive des Polices d’ Europe (USPE) to the Fourth European Police Championship Handball Women.

Handball has a long tradition in the USPE. The � rst champion-ship for men took place � fty years ago in Berlin. Policewomen had to wait till 2004 in Lojt (Denmark) to compete for their � rst European title. At the last championship, four years ago in Damp (Schleswig-Holstein) we witnessed the victory of the

strong home team. I am sure the German ladies will defend their European title vigorously.

I am delighted that the Netherlands are hosting another event. The Dutch Police Sport Federation (NPSB) and the whole organizing team worked hard to ensure that this compe-tition will be a success. I thank them for their e� ort and dedication. This will surely inspire our athletes.

I am looking forward to an exciting and fair competition in Den Haag and I wish all teams a lot of success.

Towel pack, kitchen pack In each bungalow you wil � nd one towel pack per person and one kitchen pack per bungalow.

Transport Check the announcement board daily for the bus timetable. The bus will always depart from the car/coach park at Duinrell near the main entrance. It is crucial to be on time so the bus can leave as scheduled.

WiFi At the reception at Duinrell you can buy a WiFi ticket. This costs € 10 for the period of your stay.
