in this vibrant commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, it attracts brilliant and top-ranking
students at U.G. &P.G. levels from across the country for its 10 under graduate & 23 Post
Graduate Programmes in disciplines which are contemporary, challenging and rewarding.
Our students excel in UPSC (ES, IAS, IPS) and qualify GRE, TOFEL & GATE

1. THE INSTITUTE
Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and science is the first autonomous
Technical Institute in the state of Madhya Pradesh and is one of the frontline Institutes in the
nation. It is known for imparting quality technical education, and bright students of the state
aspire to take admission in this Institute.
The Institute was established in 1952 with the three branches of Engineering namely
Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and now it offers 10 Undergraduate Program and 23
Postgraduate Programs. About 100 research papers are being published every year in journals
of national and international repute. About 700 Students in Under Graduate Courses, 400 in
Post Graduate Courses & 20 in Ph.D. Program are admitted every year. A high power
committee of Indian Society for Technical Education ranked this Institute amongst the top
Institutions of country based on campus placements for Undergraduate students and Job
Potentials for Post Graduate students.
The Institute has been identified as a center for Quality Improvement Programme
(QIP) BY AICTE, New Delhi for Ph.D. in All the faculty of Engineering. Most of the
undergraduate program & some of the P.G. Programmes have been accredited by National
Board of Accreditation, AICTE, New Delhi.
The Institute has been recognized as a lead Institute in the Technical Education
Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), A World Bank assisted project of Govt. of India.
2. THE POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES
2.1 MASTER OF ENGINEERING/TECHNOLOGY/(M.E/M.TECH.)
List of the Courses available with Specializations are given in Table-1. The Eligibility
Criteria for admission is as under:
2.1.1 Eligibility Criteria: (i) B.E. /B. Tech. or equivalent with minimum 55% aggregate marks in appropriate Branch of
Engineering/Tech. as mentioned against each course/specialization in Table-1. Candidates
belonging to SC/ST categories will get 10% relaxation in qualifying marks.
(ii) For REGULAR/FULL-TIME Candidates
Admission to regular/ full time courses shall be given in following sequence:
A) GATE Qualified Candidates (Who are eligible to PG Scholarship from AICTE)
General Category/SC/ST/OBC Candidates with valid GATE Score are given admissions on
the basis of merit prepared with Valid GATE Score.

B) NON-GATE Candidates:
Candidates who have appeared in GATE but not qualified (securing less than minimum
qualifying marks), and who have not appeared in GATE, are also considered for admission
on the basis of merit of the written Test conducted by the Institute/Departments, however
without AICTE Scholarship and only if seats remain vacant after the counselling of GATE
qualified candidates as mentioned above.
For Written Test Schedule: Refer Table-2 for details.
iii) For PART TIME Candidates
The applicant should be working in some academic/research/industry for a minimum period
of two years, counted after passing the qualifying degree till 1st July of admission year.
Candidates will also need to submit the Sponsorship and NO Objection certificate from
Employer. Admission to PART TIME courses shall be given on the basis of qualifying
degree and weightage of experience as per the following formula:
Merit Marks (%) = 85xBTM + 1.5x (N-2) where BTM is B.E./B.Tech degree marks,
and, N is No. of years of working experience.
For example, a candidate has obtained 72% marks in B.E. degree and has 3 years of
experience, then Merit Marks will be 85x0.72 + 1.5(3-2) = 61.2 + 1.5 = 62.7%.
2.1.2 Duration of all courses: REGULAR - 2 Years (4 Semesters)
PART TIME - 3 Years (6 Semesters)
2.1.3 No. of seats available: Number of seats available in each course/ specialization are
given in Table-1. GATE qualified (Non Sponsored) candidates shall be eligible to get
Scholarship@ Rs.8000/- Per month, if approved by AICTE, New Delhi. Scholarship shall be
provided by AICTE, New Delhi to the students by direct cash transfer for which student shall
need to register on AICTE web portal. Few NONGATE candidates shall also be eligible for
scholarship @ Rs. 8000/- per month, under TEQIP grant of World Bank, number and criteria
of which will be finalized by the Institute administration.
2.1.4 Allocation/ Reservation of seats: 16%, 20% and 14% seats of sanctioned intake shall
be reserved for the candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC (excluding creamy layer)
categories respectively as notified by the state government of Madhya Pradesh in this regard.
SC/ST/OBC Candidates belonging to other states (Not having Domicile of Madhya Pradesh)
shall be considered in Unreserved Category.
2.1.5 Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) Category of Madhya Pradesh: A
candidate claiming to be either of SC or ST category of MP shall have to produce a certificate
from the competent authority declared for this purpose in Proforma - 1(A) or 1(B).
2.1.6 OBC category of Madhya Pradesh: A candidate claiming reservation under OBC
(excluding creamy layer) category shall have to produce a certificate issued by the competent
authority in Proforma 2(A) or 2(B). The candidate should also bring an income certificate
regarding his/her family’s income from the Competent Authority and stating that his/her
parents do not come under creamy layer if OBC certificate is issued before 30th April, 2013.

2.2 MASTER OF PHARMACY (M.PHARM.)
List of the Courses available with Specializations are given in Table-1. The Eligibility
Criteria for admission is as under:
2.2.1 Eligibility Criteria:

approved by AICTE and pharmacy Council of India. Candidates belonging to SC/ST

2.3 MASTER OF SCIENCE (M. Sc.)
Admission to M.Sc. courses are given in Regular (Non Sponsored) category (Without
Scholarship). However few candidates shall be eligible for Teaching Assistantship @ Rs.
8000/- per month, under TEQIP grant of World Bank, number and criteria of which will be
finalized by the Institute administration.
2.3.1 Eligibility Criteria:
B.Sc. degree (10+2+3 Stream) in appropriate discipline with minimum 45% marks.
2.3.2 Duration of courses: 2 years (4 Semesters)
2.3.3 No. of seats available: Number of seats available in each course is given in Table-1.
2.3.4 Selection Criteria: As per the guidelines of Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya (DAVV),
Indore.

3. ADMISSION PROCESS
Admission to M.E./M.TECH./M.PHARM./M.Sc. Courses shall be governed by the rules of
RGPV Bhopal or DAVV, Indore whichever is applicable, and Technical Education & Skill
Development Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal.
Admission process for M.E./M.TECH./M.PHARM. will be completed in following steps:
3.1 Online registration and Off Campus Counselling
3.1.1 Registration: Online registration and payment of registration fee Rs. 1250/- will be
done through www.sgsitsindore.in as per schedule given in Table-2. This includes online
registration and non-refundable counselling fee.
3.1.1.1 The Candidates will fill up the choice for Course/Branch in order of the preference
which shall not be changed during/after counselling. It is therefore suggested that the choice
should be given carefully and locked before payment of counselling fee. If candidate is
selected in any branch of any choice opted, upgradation in upper level of choices will be
possible only after his/her admission in the college. If candidate does not report for admission
his/her candidature will be cancelled. Please refer Table-4 for Eligible courses.
3.1.2 Off campus Counselling: First round of Off Campus counselling will take place for
Candidates with valid GATE/GPAT Score. In case of equal GATE score of two or more
candidates rank will be decided on the basis of Date of Birth (older will get preference).
3.1.2.1 Schedule of declaration of Merit list is given in Table-2.
3.1.2.2 Course wise merit list and waiting lists shall be placed on Institute’s web site
www.sgsitsindore.in, through which candidate will have an idea of his/her standing for
probable admission in a particular branch. Candidates selected in different lists shall be
provisionally admitted as per schedule indicated in Table-2. Admission to waiting list
candidates shall be confirmed as the vacancy is created in respective courses.
3.1.2.3 If all the candidates will not take admission and seats remain vacant, further lists, if
available, shall be declared.
3.1.2.4 Candidates of all the courses shall be required to deposit first semester fee, at the time
of counseling for their admission, through demand draft in favor of Director, SGSITS,
Indore, payable at Indore. A detail of Fee is given in Table-3.
3.1.2.5 Reserved Category seats will be converted to other Category as per rule during the
counselling, if no candidate is available in that category.
3.1.2.6 If seats remain vacant after first round of counselling, Second counselling will take
place for the NONGATE/NONGPAT candidates. This shall be done on common merit of
written test conducted at the Institute. In the second counselling, all the available seats shall
be presumed to be under unreserved seats and the allotment shall be made accordingly on the
basis of a joint merit list of candidates of all categories.

3.1.2.7 If seats remain vacant after second counselling, Third counselling will be college
level counselling on common merit basis in the sequence of valid GATE/GPAT score, marks
of written test and degree percentage marks of qualifying examination.
3.1.3 Cancellation of Admission:
If a candidate gets his/her admission cancelled before 14th
July, 2014 i.e. prior to 7 days
before the last date of admission (21st July, 2014), then the amount paid by candidate as
admission fee will be refunded back after deducting 10% of one semester fee. Only caution
money shall be refunded to the candidates who cancel admission after this period.
3.2 Admission of Selected Candidates
List of candidates selected for admission in first round of counseling along with the waiting
list will be displayed on Institute’s website. The candidate will be required to deposit one
semester fee and complete the formalities for registration in the institute as per the schedule.
3.2.1 If the candidate does not get registered within stipulated time, his/her admission shall be
considered cancelled and the eligible candidates from the waiting lists will be offered
admission against vacant seats as per the schedule. Such candidates from the next list,
therefore, are required to report before stipulated time on the scheduled dates, failing which
their candidature will be treated as cancelled.
3.2.2 At the time of admission, the Candidate shall give choice for Course/Branch
upgradation, which shall be performed during/after counselling as per rule.
3.2.3The candidate should report to the respective Head of department of the Institute along
with following original documents, two photographs and two sets of attested photocopies of
all the documents, for the registration:
(i) Original GATE/GPAT Score Card (wherever applicable).
(ii) Proof of Date of Birth (like Certificate/Marksheet of HSC/HSSC Examination)
(iii) Qualifying Degree
(iv) Mark sheets of all the years of qualifying degree.
(v) Caste Certificate (in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates as per formats given in
annexure).
(vi) Candidates who have acquired B.E. degree from a self financed Institution (out
of M.P.) are required to submit the proof about AICTE approval of the Institute from
the Head of the concerned Institution.
(vii) Transfer Certificate and Character Certificate from the Principal of the College
last attended (may be submitted within 15 days after admission).
(viii) Migration Certificate (may be submitted within 15 days after admission).
(ix) NCC ‘C’ Certificate, if applicable.
The fee to be deposited by candidates for different courses or categories is given in Table-3
3.3 Screening test/Written Test / Counseling
NO SEPARATE CALL LETTER WILL BE SENT TO THE CANDIDATES FOR
ATTENDING TEST. Information shall be available on web site www.sgsitsindore.in of the
Institute. Applicants are required to visit Institute’s web site regularly during
admission/counselling period.

3.3.1 The candidates should report to the office of respective Head of the Department. No
TA/DA will be admissible for attending test.
3.3.2 The candidate, who has appeared this year in the qualifying examination, will also be
considered, for Admission. However, if selected for admission, such candidate will be
admitted provisionally, subject to condition that:
(i) He/she will submit the original Mark sheet/Degree of the qualifying examination
before 30/09/2014.
(ii) He/she will meet the eligibility criteria.
The classes for all P.G courses (M.E. /M. Tech. /M. Pharm. /M. Sc.) will commence from
14th
July, 2014.
4. SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship of Rs. 8000/- p.m. is given to full time GATE/GPAT qualified students admitted
to M.E./ M.Tech./M.PHARM. courses as per AICTE norms and approvals, if approved by
AICTE, New Delhi. Scholarship shall be provided by AICTE, New Delhi to the students by
direct cash transfer for which student shall need to register on AICTE web portal. Scholarship
is paid only after it is received from AICTE, New Delhi.
Few NONGATE / M.Sc. candidates shall also be eligible for Teaching Assistantship @ Rs.

finalized by the Institute administration.

fee deposited.

At the time of admission to the Boys/Girls Hostel every student is required to pay Hostel
Caution Money of Rs 5000/-. Hostel charges per semester per student are as under:

5. THE DEPARTMENTS
5.1 CIVIL ENGINEERING & APPLIED MECHANICS DEPARTMENT
This is the first Department established in 1952.The Department is fully equipped with
modern facilities. The major strength of the Department is due to its multidimensional
activities like Testing, Consultancy, and Organizing state -of –art Seminars, Workshops,
Short Term Courses etc. It is the biggest Department of the Institute having faculty strength
of 20 staff members with 10 of them having Ph.D. This Department is equipped with 16
Laboratories and Computer Center for Research and Development, teaching, training and
consultancy. The department has been identified as a Resource Center for earthquake studies
by National Programme for Earthquake Engineering Education, Govt. of India. A grant of
RS.15 lacs was sanctioned for the setup of a lab in earthquake engineering under NPEEE
project of MHA. The Department is a QIP Center forPh.D Programme. Faculty members of
the department have been awarded various prestigious awards like Anna University Award
by ISTE (1992), UNESCO (1989), Career Award in 1995, 1996, Indira Gandhi Fellowship in
1996, NPEEE Fellowship (2005), INA Fellwship (2005, 2009), Young Scientist Award,
MPCOST Fellowship in various years to many faculty of the department. A large number of
publications appear in the National and International Journals and Proceedings of Conference
every year.
5.1.1 M.E. structural Engineering

Structural Engineering is the oldest and most important specialization of civil Engineering.
The raw Civil Engineering bachelors are moulded into qualified experts of Structural Engg.
best suited to cater to the needs of industry, teaching
and research. Along with the subjects like concrete
technology, foundation Engg., Numerical Methods,
etc. common to all P.G specializations, the
candidates study the hardcore structural Engg.
Subjects like Earthquake resistant design of
structures, Finite Element Method, Advanced struct.
analysis, Adv. Concrete Design, Adv. steel Design,
Theory of plates & shells, etc. They also study some
subjects like Theory of Plasticity and Mechanics of
fiber Reinforced Composites, etc. The Candidates
with most updated knowledge in the latest applications obviously find their employment in
state & central Govt, Organisations like city Dev. Authorities, Housing Boards, Bridge
Corporations, Railways, etc. along with public sector and private ltd. companies like H.C.C.,
L&T(ECC), HSCL, HPCL, NHPC, ETC. They also have good entrepreneurship option as
structural consultants and give employment to many people. Owing to vast Structural
Engineering applications, they can also divert to Aerospace, Ship building Structures etc.
5.1.2 M.E. Water Resource Engineering
Increasing scarcity of water in all sectors due to continuously growing population has been
laying considerable emphasis on Water Resources Development and optimum utilization of
available resources. The Flood – Drought situation in the country also calls for management
of Water Resources in critical extreme situation. The coming decades shall be requiring of
specialized experts in the area of water resources Engineering & Management to solve the
above mentioned problems and to plan & execute the newly launched project of “interlinking
of Rivers” by Government of India. This P.G Course Focuses on Resources Evaluation and
Management and not on conventional Fluid Mechanics. It imparts training to the
professionals in the area of Deterministic and Stochastic Hydrology, Water Resources
Systems Engg., water Management, Ground Water Resources assessment and Recharging,
Design of Hydraulic Structures etc. The students completing this course will be able to
develop expertise in Evaluation and Assessment of available surface & Ground water
Resources, Decision Making under Uncertainty, Optimum Use of Water, Reservoir
Operation, On Farm Water Management, Computer Aided Analysis &Design, Probability
Theory and Statistical modeling. The candidates after obtaining the degree will have the
opportunities of jobs in various Govt. Departments, Govt. of India Undertakings, Private
Sectors, and dealing with Development & Management of Water Resources including
CWPRS, CWC, NIH, NWDA, WAPCOS, NHPC, NHDC, etc. Apart from these they can
develop themselves as unique consultants in the area. The students who have completed the
course in past have been very well placed.
5.1.3 M.Tech. (Environmental Engineering)
The increasing pollution in all sectors viz. Water, Air, Noise resulting in Environmental
Degradation is providing alarms for the sustenance of comfortable life on the surface of the
earth. Scientists, Technologists, Engineers are required to become alert to face the challenges
of future in the area. These aspects emphasize on development of trained experts in the field
of Environmental Management and Pollution Control. The M.Tech. Course in Environmental
Engg.is an interdisciplinary one, open to graduates in civil, Mech., Electrical, Chemical and

Agricultural Engg.is provides a platform to acquire knowledge in all the above mentioned
areas. It imparts training in Air and Water Pollution Control, Sanitary Chemistry and
Microbiology, Enviromental Hygiene, Industrial Waste Treatment, Enviromental laws,
Legislation, Impact Assessment, apart from study of Design of Units of water and Sewage
Treatment Plants. The candidates completing the course can be absorbed by R&D
Organizations, Govt. and Private Sectors dealing with Environmental Management and
Pollution Control.
5.1.4 M.E. Transportation Engineering
With the launching of ‘Prime Minister Road Plan’ since last 1-2 years the Road Sector had
got a sudden boon and a large number of Roads are being remodeled and constructed to
develop a strong Road Transportation Network. A large number of companies have been
involved in Road construction Projects and having a very high demand of trained personnel’s
in the area of Transportation Engg. The M.E.course offered by the Department provides
training to students in all the related areas of Transportation engg.viz. Highway geometrics,
urban and rural transportation planning, system analysis, Design and construction of flexible
and rigid pavements in addition to basic subjects of concrete technology and geo-technical
Engg. The candidates completing this course shall be able to handle all types of problems of
planning, designing and construction of road project and can be offered by various govt. and
private organizations dealing in road sector.
5.2 MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the prime and oldest department of the
Institute with 18 learned staff members on the roll.Over the years,a number of well equipped
laboratories have been developed. The Department has excellent experiment facilities in
Vibrations & noise control laboratory, Material Science Laboratory, Material Testing
laboratory, automobile and IC Engine Laboratory, Refrigeneration and Air Conditioning
Laboratory, Heat and Mass Transfer Laboratory ,Theory of machines Laboratory as also the
fluid Mechanics laboratory and Computer Aided Design and Graphics Laboratory has been
added recently.

Majority of the teaching faculty has either acquired Ph.D.qualifications in their respective
areas or are in the process of completing the same. Almost all the staff members have been
thoroughly exposed to the institutes of higher learning e.g.I.I.T.s; I.I.Sc.Banglore
etc.Department has conducted several Seminars, conferences & Short Term Courses.
5.2.1 M.E. in Tribology and maintenance Engineering
Tribology and maintenance Engineering is an upfront area in technology The M.E.course
covers the basic subjects like Boundary Layer Theory and Vibration and Noise Control in
bearing. Beyond this it covers the specialized subjects like applied Tribology, Analysis
Selection and Design of Bearing, Diagonostic Maintenance , Failure Analysis and Repair,
Maintenance Planning etc.
The course is aimed at producing high quality professionals in the area of Maintenance
Engineering to meet the demand of the industry. The course structure is dynamically linked
to the needs of the industry and is in line with the front line technology adapted by the
industry. The post graduate students cater to the needs of chemical, fertilizer, mining,
automobile, textile and other similar type of industries which are maintenance intensive.
Besides this the passes out students also seek career in advanced research areas. Some of the
sponsored candidates admitted are from engineering teaching institutes, who come for higher
qualification and on completion of the course go back to their parent institute. Some of the
candidates go to teaching profession offer completion of the course.
Thus, the course offers a wide scope for the passing out students to work in different areas of
the engineering profession. With increasing awareness among the industries regarding the
maintenance planning and failure control, this course has a very promising future.
5.3 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Electrical Engineering Department, established in 1957 has well developed infrastructure and
well-trained faculty and non-teaching staff. First postgraduate course in Electrical
Engineering started in 1962. At present the department supports B.E, M.E. Electrical with
specialization in (1) Power Electronics (2) Digital Techniques and Instrumentation and
PhD programs in Electrical Engineering.

Major projects are based on the practical problems of the industries. The Department has
laboratories pertinent to these specializations, namely, Power Electronics Lab., Drivers Lab.,
Control Systems and Instrumentation Lab, VLSI Design Lab., Microprocessor Lab., Digital
and Analog Electronics Lab., DSP Lab, Power System and High Voltage Lab, Machine Lab.
The teachers are highly qualified. Some books have been authored by the faculty. A large
number of papers are published every year in various Journals and conferences as an outcome
of P.G projects. The course is jointly supported by Electrical Engineering, Electronics and
Telecommunication and Instrumentation Departments.
5.3.1 M.E. in Power Electronics
Most advances in the field of Electrical Engineering have been possible due to Power
Electronics, be it in manufacturing or Power system, transportation or energy conservation.
The department is a pioneer institute to start teaching or Power Electronics in Madhya
Pradesh and has highly qualified faculty in this field. In addition the course is supported by
good number of Software and Equipments.
5.3.2 M.E. in Digital Techniques and Instrumentation
The PG Course in Digital Techniques and Instrumentation is dedicated to automation which
combines Digital Electronics and Control. This course deals with Microcontrollers, DSP,
Advanced Processors, Reliability, VLSI, Sensors and Instrumentation. The course is
supported by highly qualified faculty and equipments along with simulation software.
5.4 ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
DEPARTMENT
The Department was established in 1972 and its first UG batch passed out in 1974.In the
view of the large teledensity in the country and in the field of mobile communication and
computer networks, the department started M.E.(Elx. & Telecom Engg.) program in 2003
which has special emphasis in Telecommunication technology etc. The department is
equipped with the state of art equipments and has developed laboratories in the related fields.
The department has close interaction with IIT Mumbai in distance education program and
CISCO regional academy. The department has well established computing facilities with
intranet/internet connectivity. The Department has well participated in IMPACT project
supported by world bank, swiss dev. corporation (SDC) and Department of Electronics(now
named as ministry of information Technology) Government of India, aimed at enhancing
educational facilities to provide quality manpower.
The department has also participated in TEQIP Phase-I and also participating in TEQIP
Phase –II. The department is QIP/PhD center of MHRD, Govt. of India. The Department has
R&D in the field of modeling and Analysis of high speed Local Area Networks,
Telecommunication, Switching Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Optical Communication,
Embedded Systems etc. Many students and faculty members of the department have received
young scientist and other prestigious awards. Many alumni of the Department have pursued
M.tec and PhD’s studies in various IITs and abroad after securing high percentile in GATE &
GRE.

5.5 ELECTRONICS AND INSTRUMENTATION ENGG. DEPARTMENT
This department came out as an offspring of Electronics Engineering due to enormous
development in the field of Electronics and demand of Instrumentation Engineering at
national and international levels. M.Tech. course in Microelectronics and VLSI Design
started in 2002 due to the requirement of trained manpower in the field of VLSI. Laboratories
are equipped with modern sophisticated instruments procured under the World Bank project
TEQUIP.
The faculty of the department is well qualified to accept the new challenges in the Electronic
and Instrumentation field. Recently three candidates are awarded Ph.D. degree with
department as a research center. One of the faculty member acquired Ph.D. degree from IIT.
A Special Manpower Development Program (SMDP-II) is running in the department funded
by Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Government of India.
A SMDP-VLSI Lab has been set up under this project in the department having EDA tools
like Cadence, Synopsis, Mentor Graphics, Tanner, Xilinx etc. Under India chip program of

SMDP project, a two stage CMOS op-amp was designed, fabricated and tested. New ventures
for research and product development in area of Biomedical and Optical engineering are
being setup. Faculties of department have taken training from IITs, IISc in the area of VLSI.
Students of department are performing well in different competitive exams in addition to
good performance in campus placement.
5.6 COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 1983, the first one in the state
of Madhya Pradesh and Central India. The department runs the UG and PG programmes in
Computer Engineering, both accredited by the NBA, AICTE. The department has established
the center for Distance Engineering Education programme (CDEEP) in collaboration with IIT
Bombay in 2001.Through this programme, the department also offers video broadcast
lectures by eminent teachers of IIT Bombay for PG students from time to time.
Several specialized courses have been included in the PG program to focus prospective
subject areas like Soft Computing, Network & Information Security, Service Oriented
Architecture, Embedded systems, Data Mining, Mobile Computing etc.
The projects carried out by the PG students have been receiving applause from the industries
and thus fetching good placement opportunities. The department is proud of its PG students
as many of the ex-students of the department are now serving at prominent positions in
reputed R & D organizations and leading industries.
Recently the department has been recognized as a QIP center for Ph. D. programme in
Computer Engineering. The Department will be receiving a fund to the tune of Rs. 1 Crore in
next 4-5 years under TEQIP project for setting up of the advanced labs. and modernization of
existing labs. etc. for M.E. programme.
5.7 INDUSTRIAL & PRODUCTION ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Industrial and production Engg. department was established in the year 1973, with
specialized faculty in the area of Industrial and Production Engg. To run a M.E programmed
in “Industrial and Production Engg.” for sponsored engineers from Industries. The
programme continues till 1984 a B.E. programme in Industrial and Production and M.E

programme in “Industrial Engg. and Management” was approved by govt. In the year 2003,
M.E in computer Integrated Manufacturing is also started by the department.
The Department is equipped with learned faculty and modern facilities. The Department has
set dimensions in research. In addition to winning national level award, the faculty members
have authored number of books which are popular in many engineering curricula of the
country. Conducting ISTE sponsored Winter/Summer school and workshop and training
programme for executives is a regular feature of the dept.
The department has as exclusive reference library consisting of latest books, and videos. The
department has well equipped laboratory in the area of CAD/CAD, FMS, Industrial
Inspection, and Industrial Engg. and Ergonomics, Quantitative Techniques, metal cutting and
machine tools, Foundry and welding. The Deptt. has well equipped workshop for imparting
basic training in various trades/manufacturing processes. The Department has been
continuously carrying out consultancy work in the area of production & Industrial Engg. &
Management for the past 20 yrs. The deptt. has produced six Ph.Ds and published 10 books
and more than 100 research papers. More than 200 PG Thesis in different specialization have
been guided by the Deptt.
5.8 PHARMACY DEPARTMENT
The department of pharmacy (Formerly state college of pharmacy) is considered to be one of
the best pharmacy schools of central India imparting need based undergraduate and
postgraduate pharmaceutical education. Equipped with sophisticated research instruments
and lab equipments, well qualified and experienced faculty and with a good library,
computing and lab facilities it offers 4 yrs B.Pharm. Degree, 2 yrs M.Pharm. Degree in
industrial Pharmacy and Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Specialization respectively
and a full time Ph.Ds Degree programme.
The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in various research projects with
the financial support of UGC, AICTE, and MHRD & MPCST. Over 30 candidates have been
awarded Ph.D Degree under the supervision of faculty members. The research papers
published/presented by faculty members and research students in various international and
national journals/conferences have been widely appreciated and some of them have been

awarded by research papers/presentations. The department has maintained an excellent
student placement track record throughout. The Industry Institute Partnership cell (IIPC-
Pharmacy) sanctioned by AICTE to pharmacy Deptt. In the year 2004 has been actively
interacting with the pharmaceutical industries for fostering industry-academia interaction for
mutual benefits in various ways.
5.8.1 M.Pharm. (Medical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
The curriculum of this programme has been designed to impart a research based specialized
education in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical chemistry. The requirements of pharmaceutical
industry are given due weight age in the course contents and research projects. The major

5.8.2. M. Pharm. (Industrial Pharmacy)
This course is fully dedicated to the academic
needs of pharmaceutical Industry. Knowledge of
all important pharmaceutical fields is duly covered
in the curriculum. The students are trained in all
important areas like quality assurance, drug
regulatory affairs, pharmaceutical packaging,
formulation development, process development
and industrial management through practical’s,
seminars, and industrial projects. The Labs are
equipped with all advance equipments and
facilities needed for carrying out research
experiments. Participation of senior experts from pharmacy industries in the course coverage
and examination evaluation is a routine practice.
The major areas of current research interest are novel drug delivery system, formulation
development, stability and solubility enhancement of new materials for pharmaceutical
applications.

5.9 APPLIED PHYSICS DEPARTMENT
The department has been offering M.Sc(Applied physics)since 1969 and M.Tech
(optoelectronics) with specialization in optical communication since 1995.The laboratories in
area of lasers, fiber optics, non linear optics, optical communication and nanotechnology are
among the best in the country offering M.Tech programmes. Experimental R&D labs have
been developed for PhD programme.
The department has been running a no. of collaborative programmers at national level with
C.A.T., Indore, B.A.R.C.,Mumbai, D.A.V.V.,Indore and BIRLA Institute of technology,
Mesra (Ranchi)the international collaboration with the institute of physics, Humboldt
University, Berlin (Germany)has been sponsored by DST , Govt. of India and DAAD
,Germany, since 2003.Several research projects funded by DST,DAE,CSIR,AICTE,UGC,
NPMASS,MPCST,ICMR and DBT with a large number of full time research fellows are
either completed or being conducted successfully in the department. In the last six years
(2006-2011), 15 Ph.D. theses have been submitted in the area of Non-linear optics and laser
physics, semi-conductor Nanostructures and bulk. AT present six (06) students are pursuing
their PhD from the department. The research group publishes large number of research papers
in leading International Journals of USA, UK, Japan and Germany.
The PG Students are encourage to take up their major project works at leading national
institutes and R&D organizations like IISc, IITs, CEERI-Pilani, CSIR, Chandigarh, DRDO
and RRCAT etc. The current areas of research include semiconductor Nanotechnology, Laser
physics, coherent Laser spectroscopy, Nonlinear optics, Fiber Optics and Integrated Optics.
5.9.1 M.Tech.(Optoelectronics)
The programme has been designed keeping in view the national technical manpower
requirement in the general area of Lasers and Optical Communication. The course offered
includes subjects such as Laser Physics, Fiber Optics, Nonlinear Optics, Optical
Instrumentations, Integrated Optics, Optical Network and nanophotonics. The successful
students find job potentialities both in Public sector and Private Organizations including the
national R&D Laboratories like BARC, CAT, DRDO, C-DOT, ISRO etc. the course contents

are continuously updated with active participation of Scientists from CAT- Indore and IIT
Delhi, DAVV-Indore and IUC (DAE-CSR) Indore.
5.10 APPLIED CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
The department offers a post graduate programme, M.Sc.(Applied Chemistry)with two
specializations i.e. Textile Chemistry and fine Chemicals & Drugs. The Laboratories of the
Department are equipped with facilities / instruments to perform experiment and
computational facilities with advanced chemistry software to perform molecular modeling
and virtual drug design studies in pure and applied chemistry. all most all the faculty
members possesses doctoral degree and are actively engaged in research work.
The department also provides consultancy and takes testing of engg. materials for various
industries as a part of Institute industry Interaction.
5.11 APPLIED MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE
DEPARTMENT
This department offer M.Sc. (Applied mathematics) with specialization in computational
science programme. The faculty of this department has set trends in perusing quality
research at abstract and concrete level. A

The department is running this Course since 1970 with the objective to train students for
application of mathematics to engineering problems. In recent years there has been a wide
spread use of computers in engineering design and scientific research. In view of this we have
proposed modified syllabi of M.Sc Applied Mathematics with specialization in computer
science with two fold objectives. The modified syllabi will provide in depth knowledge of the
core subjects like discrete mathematics, Theory of computation, Graph theory, Fuzzy logic,
Stochastic processes etc. which are essential for fundamental research in computer science.
Second objective of the course is to train students for engg. problems by simulation,
Mathematical Modeling and Numerical methods using computer.
6. CENTRAL FACILITIES
The campus of the institute has amenities like a Co-operative stores, Dispensary, Bank,
Canteen, Staff Quarters, Hostels, Gymnasium, Sports Complex, etc. Very soon, there will be
post office inside the campus.
6.1 Central Library:
The institute has a well equipped central library with voluminous collection of 80000 books
and Journals boasts of being one of the best in central India. Library is subscribing 167
International and national in print form and 120 online research journals from IEEE, IEE,
ASCE, ASME, IOP, BENTHAM, SPRINGER, ELSEVIER per year. Online journals can be
easily accessible from any of the nodes in the institute. Library provides the active services
like in-house reading facility, reading material circulation and renewal, reference service,
interloan sevices, information circulation and proper display of new arrivals, book bank
service and photocopy service to the faculty members and the students, during its working
our from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The internet and the online journal searching service are
provided by 24 computers available in the library and also available through the campus wide
networking. The library is the active member of INDEST-AICTE consortium and DELNET
(Developing Library Network). The library is being computerized its all procedures, services
and resources by the help of standard library application software.
6.2 Training and Placement Cell:
The Institute has a training and placement cell headed by a full-time training and placement
officer (TPO). The cell arranges training programmes in the industries for the students during
their vacation periods. The cell also helps the students in getting employment. It organizes

campus recruitment where in several leading nationals and multinational organization

6.3 Sports Facilities:
The institute provides facilities for indoor and outdoor games. The students are encouraged to
participate in various sports events being organized regularly in the campus. Our students
have been participating in the intercollegiate and interuniversity competitions and winning
prizes in such events. The sports facilities include Lawn tennis court, Badminton Courts,
Table tennis, chess, cricket and football ground, handball, basketball etc. The institute has
newly developed Gymansium with sophisticated equipments.
6.4 Hostel Facility Institute has 4 Boys Hostels with 600 capacity and 2 Girls Hostels with 200 Capacity.
Limited accommodation is available for the PG students in Institute Hostels on merit basis
and as per Govt. rules.
6.5 Medical Facilities:
A registered medical practitioner is available to the student and staff for first aids and general
checkups.
