see the class teacher and Principal.

Parents will regularly receive a WhatsApp message or email from the school keeping you updated about news

and events. It will contain reminders, notes from teachers, details of minor injuries. Parents are encouraged to

children during the day so that you can have an idea on how and what they are doing.

Our Baby Corner

We at Little Honey Bees Nursery School would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your baby. We believe

that every child’s development is different. Some babies may reach important milestones before other babies.

Believe it or not, this is perfectly normal! We have invested a significant amount of time and effort in order to

create the ultimate baby care centre. Only the finest materials and furniture fit for a king are used in striving

to achieve excellence in our quest for perfection for your Little bundle of joy!

We realize and acknowledge the fact that babies are far more intelligent than most people realize and that we

can develop them into toddlers to reach their fullest potential! The majority of caring institutions are oblivious

to the fact that a baby’s brain is like a big sponge who just wants to be fed and stimulated! Babies do not just

want to be “cot-bound” all day! Babies have the extraordinary ability to learn at an extremely fast pace, given

the Correct Stimulation and Environment. At Little Honey Bees Nursery School, we really do go those extra

few miles in doing just that.

This is what we offer:

G Daily child stimulation and developmental programs

G Trained staff all qualified in infant first aid and CPR

G Baby Massage and Baby Gym ( We use a Pilates Ball and mat)

Our Fire Drill

A simple and very effective fire drill is practised regularly, which the children love to participate in. One child

of each class will be chosen to be the leader during the fire drill, they will be the one to lead their class to the

safe area marked outside. We will then issue those children with a Fire Drill Certificate for a job well done!

School uniform:

Pupils are required to wear the school T-shirt on special occasions when representing the school. Reminders in

this regard will be sent to parents.

Driving into the school and Parking at the school

There are two secure on-site parking areas at the school. Please park inside the property and not along the

road. Both entrances are automated which are operated by a key pad in which each parent will receive a

WhatsApp or Sms with the new gate code. This code is changed every month for security reasons. To ensure

the safety of your child when dropping off and collecting them, you will be expected to accompany your

child/ren, both in and out of the School. For their own safety PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THEM AT THE GATE!

Our Teaching methods and philosophy:

At Little Honey Bees Nursery School we understand that children have a natural curiosity about their world,

and everything they do has the potential to be a learning experience. Learning through play ensures that each

individual child’s needs are met. Our activity programme encourages all children to explore and socialise with

adults and other children through auditory, sensory and tactile activities. The curriculum includes a variety of

activities, lessons and skills such as Pre-writing. Drawing, Painting, Sensory play, Literacy and Language,

Mathematics, Design and Technology (through puzzle building, Lego’s and Constructive play), Natural Sciences,

Arts and Culture (drama, singing and dancing) and Life Orientation. Children are encouraged to explore their

environment which has been created to stimulate young minds. We believe strongly that Little Honey Bees

Nursery School can provide your child by filling their little hearts and little minds with GOLD.

We believe children have a lot to say. And we listen. Part of our curriculum includes lessons on life skills and

values. Children appreciate honesty, sharing, taking turns and many other social graces through a structured

environment. We believe children require a structured environment in which to concentrate, as well as a relaxed

environment in which to express themselves. Our qualified teachers guide the children, while helping them build

confidence which assists them in the more formal academic environment.

Our Injury and First Aid Policy

A formal “Injuries Record” will be kept at the school in which all injuries will be recorded together with a

detailed account of what happened and how the child is treated. Minor injuries will also be recorded in the

accident record sheet. In the unlikely event of a more serious injury, parents will be contacted immediately to

inform them thereof. Since staff members are CPR and First Aid trained, your child will be well taken care of

until the parent and/or professional medical care arrives. The school has a well-equipped First Aid Kit which is

regularly checked and supplies replenished. Gloves are use when working with blood.

All medication must be removed from your child’s bag and handed to the teacher on duty. Kindly ensure that

ALL instructions are clearly provided on our Medicine Administration Form or NO medication will be

administered at all if the parent has failed to fill in the form. Each Medication MUST BE individually listed,

stating times and dosages of each to be administered.

Our Little Baker Day

The objective behind our “Little Baker” day is to provide the children with a very simple introduction to the

concept of money ( buying and selling). Each week on a Friday one child will be asked to be the Little Baker.

They will be required to provide a tasty treat for each child in the class. Children are encouraged to help their

parents with the preparation of these tasty treats. Some examples of such treats are homemade

cupcakes/biscuits/cookies, fruit kebabs/ savoury kebabs, popcorn, marshmallow creations, rice crispy cakes

etc. The Little Baker then gets to wear the Baker Hat and sells their goods to their friends- children enjoy this

immensely. The other members of the class are requested to bring R5 to school every Friday or you can pay a

once off Term fee which will be calculated for you, payable to the class teacher. All money collected will be

used to purchase equipment, books or toys for the school.

Birthday Parties:

Birthdays are a special occasion for your little ones. For this reason we do everything possible to make your

child’s day a memorable one. Parents are welcome to bring a birthday cake or some cupcakes to be enjoyed

during the birthday ring. Should you wish to provide party packs, these will only be handed out at the end of the

school day. Parents are most welcome and are cordially invited to attend the birthday ring. Parents are

requested to please make the necessary arrangements regarding the times, number of pupils etc. with the class

teacher or principal. Party venue available should you want to use the schools property over the weekend.

Safety and security:

For your peace of mind the following precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of you and

your child:

U The school has an alarm and is linked to an armed response (TRSS who are just down the road)

U CCTV cameras enhance the safety and security of every child , we are situated in a boomed area.

U Each classroom has a panic button and the teachers carry a panic button in the unlikely event of an

emergency

U No child is ever left unattended or unsupervised

U Secure on-site parking. Please park inside the property and not along the road, unless we are having a

special function at the school.

U 2 Automated gates which are operated by a key pad in which each parent is given a code and this code

does change every month.

Please note:

Should your child be collected by anyone other than yourself, we must be informed in advance and such a person

adequately identified. You will need to send us a copy of the persons ID, and inform us as to how this person is

related to your child. If we are not comfortable with the person fetching your child we will be contacting

before releasing your child to that person. Should we not be adequately informed, your child will not be allowed

to go home with “any strangers”.

Change of information:

The school must be notified if there is any change in address, telephone numbers and business address and

telephone numbers at work. This information is so important to always be updated. The school will request you

to fill in a new application form every year. Please ensure that all your information is always updated, as this is

very important in case of any emergency.

Little Honey Bees Health and Safety Policy:

We at Little Honey Bees Nursery School realise that all children have minor illnesses that do not prevent them

from attending school, however, in the following circumstances children will be expected to stay at home for

these reasons:

The Sickies, Sneezles and Snuffles symptoms:

Children should NOT BE ALLOWED to remain at school if they exhibit the following symptoms:

G Sore throat/red looking/tonsillitis

G Stomach ache

G Sneezing and runny nose (yellow mucous)

G Unidentified Rash, Doubtful rash or mouth sores (Doctor’s Clearance certificate required)

G Pinkeye(Conjunctivitis) /Eye infection

G Coughing ( must have a cough syrup)

G High Temperatures/Fevers over 37 degrees centigrade

G Earache

G Diarrhoea and/or Vomiting (within 24 hour window period)

G Scabies or head lice

G On antibiotics for less than 24 hours

G Anything requiring a child to take a fever reducer / pain medication

G Infectious illnesses

A sick child would be far more comfortable in their own environment. It is also very demanding for a sick child

to be expected to keep up with the daily routine in which the other healthy children are participating.

Furthermore our HEALTHY CHILDREN and STAFF at Little Honey Bees get affected by this. Please

understand this, it is for the best of your child’s health and your cooperation is much appreciated in this

regard.

Sick children

If a child becomes sick at the Nursery School, the child’s Class Teacher and/or the Principal will take the

decision and responsibility as to whether the child is fit to attend or not. If not the child’s parents will be

contacted and informed on their child’s state of health. We will need to isolate your child by bringing him/her

to the office where a mattress will be provided (sick bed). Please make arrangements to come as soon as

possible to pick up your little one (within 30-40 minutes). We will collect and bring your child’s items (bags) as

well as a nap blanket all to the office. If a parent requests that medication be given, a stat dose of “S0”

medication (Calpol/Panado) while your little one waits for you to arrive, this verbal authorization (permission)

can only be given to the Principal. A Medication Authorization Form will be completed by the Principal and must

be signed by a parent upon pick-up.

Any child who has a FEVER, DIARRHEA OR HAS VOMITED (the night before or in the morning before

coming to school) must be kept at home for 24 hours after all symptoms have subsided. A child taking

ANTIBIOTICS must have been on the medication for over 24 hours before they will be allowed to return to

the school. A child who has had a fever reducer before school should not be accepted. Please keep the child at

home and monitor them at home. It is not easy and not fair to have a sick child at school. We hope that you

understand, we putting your child’s health first.

6

Little Honey Bees Nursery School

Medication at School

Staff members may not administer medication to any child unless a parent has completed a Medication

Authorization Form. Parents must indicate a date, name of medication, a reason for the medication, and the

dosage or medication cannot be administered. Medicine bottles will be stored in a box/basket on top of the

kitchen fridge, while in use at Little Honey Bees. The Medication Authorization Form will remain with the

medication box at all times. Unused medications found in your child’s bag will be removed and placed in this

basket (it is not safe to keep medication in your child’s bag while at school ( please notify your child’s teacher

and sign the form), if the form is not filled in, it is required that we immediately returned the medication and it

will not be administered or stored at Little Honey Bees. If a child is well enough to be in school but requires

medication, the parent must complete the “School Medication Permission Form ”. Medications may be

administered only by a Teacher, Assistant or Principal. When medicine is given, the Medication must be in the

original container, manufacturer’s name and dosage listed clearly on the label. If the label does not specify

dosage for the age of your child, or the requested dosage differs from that on the label, a doctor’s

prescription with recommended dosage must be attached. Prescription medications must be in the original

container with the pharmacy label attached. The teacher will document and sign the type of medication

administered, will check the dosage, and the time it was given. Expired Medication will not be administered to

any child at the school. If a medication is needed for more than one week, please have the family fill out a

sheet every Monday. All medicines must be removed daily from the School when not in use and/or always by

Friday of each week.

Communicable disease

Parents will be asked to inform the Nursery School if the child has a communicable disease, so that the school

can inform other parents. If present in our school, we will provide each family with written information about

the illness including symptoms and number of days the child should remain at home. Some examples of common

communicable diseases are chicken pox, pink eye and lice. Parents please inform the Principal of communicable

illnesses should you come across any of them.

These are some illnesses where the child must stay at home and only return until the doctor has given a

CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE (stating the date your child can return to school again):

U Chicken pox

U Measles, German measles (Rubella), Shingles, Streptococcal etc.

U Mumps, Hepatitis A, TB,

U Foot and Mouth, thrush

Little Honey Bees Rules and Regulations:

Our Discipline Policy

Parents rate pupil safety and discipline very highly. We know that parents are interested in knowing

some of our “Ground Rules” and that they will support us in every way possible. Discipline at Little

Honey Bees Nursery School is firm, yet fair and kind and is viewed as part of the Educational

Process. Discipline is approached as an opportunity for Problem Solving in that a child is taught why

the specific behaviour is inappropriate, the natural or logical consequences of such behaviour and is

encouraged to make more appropriate decisions in the future. Since our objective is to prepare

children for Primary School, they will be taught what is considered to be desirable and acceptable

behaviour in the classroom and on the playground. In so doing, we are teaching the children Self-

Control and a sense of respect and responsibility to themselves and others. We consider everyone at

Little Honey Bees Nursery School as Family so we encourage good manners as well as family values in

each child.

I as a pupil of the school need to always obey these rules to enjoy a happy, safe day at my school:

L I will respect, listen to and obey the teachers and staff

L I will play nicely with the toys and pack it away when I am finished

L I will respect my friends at school and obey the rule of sharing and taking turns

L Good manners are important so I will always remember to say “please” and “Thank you”

L Bullying is NOT allowed (PARENTS WILL BE CALLED IN)

L I will help keep my school clean and beautiful by throwing litter in the dustbin

L I will not throw stones or other objects around that may hurt my friends

L I will use my “inside voice” in the class and not yell, shout or run around while I am inside

L I will work quietly in the classroom so that my friends can concentrate on their work

L Bad language is not allowed at my school (PARENTS WILL BE CALLED IN)

We believe children require a structured environment in which to

concentrate, as well as a relaxed environment in which to express

themselves. Our qualified teachers guide the children, while helping them

build confidence which assists them in a more formal academic environment.
