INVITATION On the occasion of our double jubilee 65 Years of Potash Engineering Made in Erfurt and 25 Years of ERCOSPLAN we would like to cordially invite you to our International Symposium The Potash Industry in the 21 st Century Exploration, Mining, Processing and Disposal of Resulting Residues from 08 to 10 June 2017 in the Congress Center at the Messe in Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. Some of you will surely remember: almost five years ago, there was a similar event, which attracted a high level of national and interna- tional attention. We would like to build on this. Much has changed on the international potash market since then, some fundamentally, while others have remained the same as they have been tested and proven in potash fertilizer production for decades. After the middle of the second decade of the 21st century – after more than 150 years of production history – the potash industry is facing, not for the first time, great challenges. To identify and discuss them with experts and stakeholders is the cornerstone for developing economically feasible and ecologically sustainable concepts. Striking the right balance between both and fulfilling social responsibility at the same time, i.e. being able to establish solutions that are sustainable in the long term in practice from this dialogue, has a long tradition in the potash industry. As in the past, the potash experts from Arnstadter Strasse 28 in Erfurt would like to continue to make their contribution by providing independent consulting and innovative engineering – not least in the form of this anniversary symposium. We would be very pleased to welcome you at our jubilee event and in the meantime, we send you our best regards and a friendly “Glückauf!” Staff, Shareholders and Management of the ERCOSPLAN Group of Companies INFORMATION AND DATES Please fill out the enclosed reply card and send it back to us by 15 May 2017 to our company address (printed on the card) or via email to [email protected] If you wish, we can book hotel accommodation for you according to your preferences indicated on the reply card. SCHEDULE

We would be very pleased to welcome you in the Panorama Hall of the Congress Center at Messe Erfurt on the evening of 08 June 2017. There will be a casual get together starting at 18:00, where there will be a chance, amongst other things, to talk shop with the mayor of Erfurt, Mr Andreas Bausewein, about Erfurt as a centre of potash engineering.

On 09 June 2017, our anniversary symposium will begin at 09:30 in the Congress Center at Messe Erfurt. After a small official ceremony and welcome addresses, interesting lectures await you. During the breaks between lectures, you will have the opportunity to take a look at the poster exhibition and some other exhibits on current technical developments in potash fertilizer production and speak with the exhibitors. Also during the festive evening reception in Dorint Hotel am Dom in Erfurt’s Old Town, there will be a chance for you to have discussions with representatives of potash producers from all over the world and from junior potash mining companies, with represen-tatives from shaft sinking companies and equipment suppliers, with potash consultants and experienced project engineers as well as with analysts, market experts as well as specialist authorities and drink a toast together to the (hopefully) successful day.

On 10 June 2017, three technical excursions are planned.

LECTURES AND POSTERS

Under the slogan The Potash Industry in the 21st Century - Exploration, Mining, Processing and Disposal of Resulting Residues, we have endeavoured to put together an interesting lecture programme for you. After welcome addresses by the patron of our anniversary symposium, the Honorable Bodo Ramelow, Premier of the Free State of Thuringia, and Mr Hartmut Kiessling, the head of the Thurin-gian Mining Authority, there will be plenary lectures by high-level representatives of the fertilizer industry in Germany, the Republic of Belarus, the Kingdom of Jordan as well as Canada. In subsequent parallel sessions, innovative developments in the exploration and development of deposits, the extraction, haulage and beneficiation of solid potash ores as well as natural or technical brines up to the refinement of the final products will be discussed. In doing so, reference will often be made to current engineering for new potash pro-jects in Europe, North and South America, the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa and Southeast Asia. A special lecture block is dedicated to environmental protection and the management of solid and liquid processing residues, while another deals with the multifarious aspects of the decommissioning, closure and abandonment of potash mines.

Thereafter, an example of valuable international cooperation on the development of new potash production sites will be presented in a plenary session. At the end of the lecture programme, the – meanwhile experienced – “grandchild” generation of those who paved the way for Potash Engineering Made in Erfurt in the market economy 25 years ago will explain its perspective on the success story of the past quarter of a century.

In a poster exhibition, more in-depth information on the lecture topics as well as other current focus areas of exploration, mining and processing of potash as well as the management of the resulting residues will be presented.

The detailed lecture programme as well as information on the authors can be found in the enclosed brochure. The original language of each lecture is listed in brackets behind the title. All lectures will be simultaneously translated into Chinese, English, German, French, Russian and Spanish.

EXCURSION PROGRAMME

On 10 June 2017, we are offering you a choice of three excursions to selected potash production sites in Central Germany that are closely tied to the history of German potash fertilizer production and hence also to the ERCOSPLAN Group of Companies:

EXCURSION A: The Werra Potash District

K+S KALI GmbH’s Werra Plant is a potash producti-on unit with one of the highest outputs in the world. With a high recovery rate, apart from chloride- and sulphate-based potash fertilizers, a large number of KMg specialty products are produced here.

This excursion will give an overview of the geologi-cal boundary conditions of the deposit and of the history of potash production in the Werra Potash District as well as the latest comprehensive invest-ment programme for environmental protection.

Thanks to K+S KALI GmbH, it will possible for us to visit the Merkers Adventure Mine and the Heringen Tailings Pile.

EXCURSION B: The South Harz Potash District

The changes in the economic landscape after Ger-man Reunification led to the almost simultaneous closure of six potash mines in the South Harz-Unst-rut Potash District. As a result, extensive demolition and reclamation works as well as the closure of the mines in a way that would ensure their long-term sa-fety were carried out. Only at one potash production site, at DEUSA International GmbH in Bleicherode, is South Harz potash still being produced. Soluti-on mining of carnallitite takes place using methods developed and optimized here in the past years, and will be presented as part of the excursion. This excursion also provides information on the extent and the methods of this renovation and reclamation campaign, which is unparalleled in the history of the international potash industry.

Thanks to DEUSA International GmbH, it will be possible for us to visit the Kehmstedt Brine Field and the processing plant in Bleicherode.

EXCURSION C: The North Harz Potash District and Stassfurt

Industrial potash fertilizer production began in 1861 in the small town of Stassfurt, which is located in present-day Saxony-Anhalt. After a carnallitite ho-rizon was discovered during the development of a rock salt deposit in 1856, it took less than five ye-ars before the first potash plant in the world started production.

This excursion will allow an insight into the early his-tory of the potash industry, into the enthusiasm and pioneering spirit of this time, but it also chronicles the misjudgments and mistakes of these early ye-ars, which have affected the environment and urban planning in ways that are still not unproblematic up till today. The mineral extraction currently taking pla-ce at the Stassfurter Sattel and the subsequent use of the extraction cavities will also be mentioned.

Thanks to the Stadt- und Bergbaumuseum Stass-furt, it will be possible for us to view a historical mo-del of potash mining in Stassfurt in detail.

Please indicate which excursion – A, B or C – you would like to attend on the enclosed reply card.
