Colouring Book for Minion Rush, Ben 10 and Despicable Me This app is useful for older students who get a buzz out of

colouring as the images are all modern, up to date and based on the latest movies. The app contains: 40 colouring pages for Ben 10, Despicable Me and Minecraft - draw, add text, add stickers, and more. Create Minecraft memes with the 'Meme' option. useful for everyone. Learn with Homer (Free for a week from 25 November 2013) This is an American app but is worth a look at whilst free. I had a dip in and liked the way the images appeared and the instructions were okay ( a bit shrill...). Phonics based.

Learn with Homer is a learn-to-read app for children under the age of 5, incorporating drawing, voice recording, stories and songs along with more traditional phonics exercises. A clear map on the main page presents all the options kids to explore, which include:

• Learn to read • Story time • Discover the world • Homer's clubhouse.

The blurb states: “Clear verbal instructions in all areas. There is a systematic, sequential phonics program providing lessons, interactive activities and a review before moving on to the next level. Within 'Discover the World' learners can find out about topics ranging from zoos to the five senses. The stories are beautiful, and include many genre-specific sections such as poetry and folk tales. Children are encouraged throughout to draw or voice record their thoughts about what they are learning.”

Water Rings This is the iPad version of the old-fashioned water toy we used to find in the Christmas stocking, you shook it and tried to catch the rings

on a stick. This is the modern, very addictive version as it is far more sophisticated now with a choice of backgrounds and hangers to catch the rings. Excellent for a leisure game and for learning how to tilt and use the iPad in different ways. I am trying the octopus without a lot of success…

Woblight Free This is an intense coloured flashing light so use with caution. Type in your name and it comes on the screen with intense strobe light effect. You can

change colours, use toggle flash or strobe and toggle audio. It comes for use as a disco effect. Very strong lights, but worth a look. Flash!

Abstract Painting This is a very impressive app from a Spanish designer, easy to use and with awesome effects.

There are a range of typical modern art images with which to play and the artist is able to vary the colours and settings. It uses imagination and creates modern art - a world apart from paint by numbers or colouring books. I shall use this myself!

Can Knockover Another leisure pursuit game, great for eye hand coordination. Very simple, just flip the pink ball at the

circus cans and see your score. Just 5 or 6 cans show each time so not too hard to knock them over.

Smooth Talker A quickie for speech and language therapists from Australia - Free. Smooth Talker is a simple iPad & iPhone application, that allows speech &

language therapists (SLPs), the ability to measure their clients' syllable-to-stutter ratio (%SS), without the need to own expensive hardware. The blurb: • Smooth Talker has been specially developed in consultation with SLPs and,

parents of children that have fluency difficulties. • Smooth Talker puts the power of expensive hardware devices, into your palm. • Smooth Talker is the FREE alternative, unlike competing apps on the App Store

or devices that cost a lot of money. • Smooth Talker has minimal features, so getting started is really easy. • Smooth Talker has a plain interface, so that children are not distracted during

sessions.

Even Monsters Get Sick - Free (for a short time). A modern, chirpy book, well written and illustrated by Michael Bruza. 'Read to me' or ' I can

read.' Mona trades her pet monster Zub, for 3 stickers, 2 sticks of gum and a skateboard - and so the adventure begins. Zub is not a happy guy and he ends up at the doctors - the page on which he has to show his tongue is hilarious! With many interesting interactions, the sounds are good there are many pages to enjoy. Well worth buying and good value for money. Love it - and so will Evie, my granddaughter!
