EDITORIALThe new year has begun in a very lively

manner for us, notably with our first direct presidential elections. Too bad we got out of doing figures. We could have had some interesting subjects of the finalists, and of a few others, too. Although my candidate didn’t win, the elections were interesting, even though neither one of the finalists expressed any opinions regarding the future course of plastic modeling. But throughout his entire campaign, neither did Obama. So, as usual, we will need to take care of our own future ourselves, and add to our field despite any worldwide economic adversities.

So then, what’s new? On the Spitfire front, I am happy to report that we are on track according to plan, and we are in the home stretch. The second half of February should see the test shots being made and delivered to our test builders. For those of you that are not aware, we have developed a bit of an innovation with sending out test shots to testers prior to the final draft of the instructions being made. This pilot project originated with the Bf 110G-4 in 1/72nd, and will be fine tuned in conjunction with the finalization of the Spitfire, and if the final results are satisfactory, subsequent projects will benefit from this process that will have by then matured. We will describe this process in greater detail as we use it in the future.

February’s main attraction is likely to be the final of three 48th scale P-38 Lightnings. This time, it covers later variants of the P-38, the J and L, in the Pacific. Aside from the marking options, there are no big deviations from the previous two kits. As with the other kits in this

line, the number available will be limited, and once gone, they are gone. Besides this Limited Edition kit, we’ve also got a couple of ProfiPACK offerings, both re-releases. The I-16 Type 10 comes with no changes, and represents a kit that is back in the rotation. The F6F-5 Early is also in 48th scale, but is a little less straightforward. This is the first Hellcat kit in this guise. The kit has new markings, and also new resin wheels. These are Brassin items, and are very nice indeed. The final kit release is a Weekend Edition kit of the Bf 109E-3 in 1/48th scale.

If you should, for some reason, find our kit offerings a bore, we may be able to fix this with this month’s offer of etched brass, mask and Brassin sets. All three offer up some interesting projects. The photoetched brass items cover some rarities, such as covering the 1/48th scale Voyager, and the 1/200 scale Bismarck. Fans of the Lynx Mk.88 kit in 48th and the 72nd scale Sunderland will not e disappointed. The mask sets offer a glimpse of brass sets to come in the near future.
