Background
• Safety is one of CenterPoint Energy’s core values
• Preventable vehicle collisions are a challenge, including
• Following too close
• Failure to maintain space around the vehicle
• Unsafe lane changes
• Beginning in 2014, CenterPoint Energy has taken
additional actions to improve driving performance,
including:
• Started annual Drive Safety Forward campaign
• Introducing AlertDriving Training in November 2015
• Added Driver suspensions and management follow-up meetings

Why is it Important to Act?
• From 2013 to 2015, the number of preventable
vehicle collisions went up.
• We wanted to be proactive and find solutions to
improve our performance behind the wheel.
3
What else could be done to proactively improve
driving behaviors and prevent accidents?
CenterPoint Energy Proprietary and Confidential Information
Accepting the Challenge
• We wanted to look at available technology on the market that could help reduce collisions
• We found the market changes all the time with new offerings being introduced almost weekly
• We evaluated drivers’ assistance devices and camera systems including those that involve behavioral monitoring and reporting
• We finally gathered enough information to make an informed decision
• We chose a collision avoidance system called Mobileye
4
CenterPoint Energy Proprietary and Confidential Information
Who is MOBILEYE?
• MOBILEYE is an industry leader in collision
avoidance technology
• Their vehicle safety solutions have been adopted
by leading car manufacturers such as GM, Volvo,
BMW, Honda, Toyota and Chrysler.
5
CenterPoint Energy Proprietary and Confidential Information
MOBILEYE Technology
• Unique single camera (facing the road ahead) approach to vehicle and object detection.
• Proprietary in-house developed chip allows for low-cost, high-performance, real-time image processing.
• According to MOBILEYE’s research, the collision avoidance system has been proven to reduce road accidents by up to 45%!

MOBILEYE System Components
• Windshield-mounted camera and processor
• High visibility display and control unit
• Power supply harness
• EBox is available for additional functions
• Cruise control shut down
• Turn off radio speakers
• Brake lights flashing
• Seat Vibration

CEHE MOBILEYE Trial
• We conducted a pilot program with the Mobileye device in March
2015.
• Six MOBILEYE units were installed on Company vehicles.
• First 3 weeks: Driving habits were logged but without in-vehicle alerts.
• Second 3 weeks: the alert function was enabled and drivers were trained
on the notifications they would receive and how to correct the situation
• The table below shows the results from the first week of trial to the last
week of the trial.
8
On average, MOBILEYE resulted in a greater than 60% reduction in number
of alerts per miles driven during the trial period
LDW: Lane departure warning
HMW: Headway monitoring
Warning (following time)
FCW: Forward Collision Warning
PCW: Pedestrian Collision
Warning

Enhancing the Tool for Coaching
Opportunities
• The trial of Mobileye proved very successful
• Over the course of the trial, participating drivers saw a decrease in the number of alerts they received for following too close, speeding, and lane departure without signaling
• However, Mobileye did not come with built-in reporting capability which limited visibility of potentially risky driving behaviors
• Executive management challenged us to find a way to monitor alerts that Mobileye registered
• The purpose is to provide the opportunity to address driver behavior in a proactive manner prior to an accident

Mobileye/GPS Insight Collaboration
• We brought two companies together to look into
integrating their systems
• It worked out perfectly!
10

Implementation Plan
• Deploy MOBILEYE technology in vehicle types that have
been involved in the most preventable vehicle collisions
over the last two years
• 396 units were deployed at the end of 2015.
• Single Bucket Trucks and ½ ton pickups are in the initial
phase of this project.

Coach & Trend
• Collected Data is being used:
• To determine the effectiveness of the devices in
changing driver behavior
• To determine trends in driver behavior by department,
service area, vehicle type, etc.
• To coach for individual driver improvement based on
real-time data in a standardized, non-biased format
12
We will be using actual company data to determine triggers for coaching driving behavior
